I can't believe someone said "everything from mid 00's yoncé" lmao "Irreplaceable," "Check On It," "Baby Boy," "Naughty Girl" would all like to have a chat.
I'd like to bring up "Bad Blood" by Taylor Swift. (ft. Kendrick Lamar, too.) It never lived up-to its music video hype but I find myself forgetting it was even a single when I think about 1989 era. "Wildest Dreams" and "Style" have both outperformed in the long run.

Compared to Time After Time and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, She Bop feels pretty forgotten even though it was also a pretty big hit from the same album It's most known for being on Tipper Gore's (in)famous Filthy Fifteen list.

The only way I remember it is by humming Cry Me A River before seguing (very lightly, might I add) into What Goes Around and then Mirrors just pops out of that.

Okay but I thought this was a thread about big hits that the public has mostly forgotten and for me at least, a lot of people still remember Mirrors fondly.

It's Going Down by Yung Joc. I know a lot of rap hits from the 2000s are mostly forgotten by now but this was a Top 5 hit, and was in the Top 20 for the Year-End 2006!

My first thought. I don't think I've seen a Summer smash fade so quickly and completely. Too bad it did. I mean the song isn't amazing or anything but it was popping during one of the best times of my life and I have a lot of good memories associated with it so I still enjoy listening to it

Looking back a bit, “Over and Over” by Nelly & Tim McGraw is an excellent example. This song was a massive pop smash and blazed the trail for future urban / country collaborations. Today (and for the last decade-plus)? Completely forgotten.

I think we need to establish that a song not being played for a long time ≠ forgotten

Only Bey songs I would bring are up are like Deja Vu, Me Myself & I, and Ring The Alarm Deja Vu wasn't the biggest hit and Crazy In Love is the more memorable collab to the GP Me Myself & I is overshadowed a bit by the other singles from her debut Ring The Alarm underperformed on the charts and was kind of the Lemonade before Lemonade. Weirdly enough I feel like Get Me Bodied is actually remembered cause of that revamped version she did in 2011, maybe not more than Me Myself & I though.

Some of Boyz II Men’s big hits. End of The Road was #1 for 13 weeks and I’ll Make Love To You was #1 for 14 weeks and I have not heard either song since.

Half of these hits were not massive.
My answer is Boom Boom Pow definitely.

Mirrors - Justin Timberlake S&M - Rihanna I feel like this gets used more on TV and in promos and stuff. I would say "Only Girl (In The World)" is more forgotten.

Two sprung to mind, both because they've been overshadowed by other singles:
U + Ur Hand by P!nk, which has been overlooked thanks to Who Knew
Behind These Hazel Eyes, which has been forgotten in favor of Since U Been Gone and Because of You.

I honestly believe most of Rihanna's hits haven't stuck around in the memory, the worst offender is probably Where Have You Been, a huge hit in the summer of 2012 but nobody really remembers it, probably because it's pretty generic and We Found Love overshadowed it.

Monica “Angel of Mine”(1998). I haven’t heard that on the radio since late 98/early 99. This was a big hit at the time.

I wouldn't be surprised to get dealt some stats that change my mind, but "We Belong Together" by Mariah came to my mind first. For how inescapable that song was and how it fueled a hugely successful era and a comeback that cemented her legend status, the song itself hasn't retained any pop culture power (incidentally, a similar fate as "Behind These Hazel Eyes"). I think a lot of this is due to the fact that "All I Want For Christmas Is You" has become Mariah's de facto signature song and a pop culture staple that it steals the oxygen from everything else. And now that Mariah is a legend, more of the focus seems to be on "nostalgia" for her older hits.
It also probably doesn't help that it's a pretty weak song tbhhhh.

You better turn on the radio during Quiet Storm. 😂 I still hear AoM quite frequently. Not as much as TBIM, but it hasn't vanished for a hit over 20 years old. And I wish we lived in a world where Mirrors had been tossed aside and forgotten, but we don't. That and CSTF are the songs I hear the most from JT, which does make sense since they're his two biggest post-00s hits. What little I heard of WGA has been completely absorbed into Mirrors over the last several years. CMAR, RYB, SB, and ML make appearances too (RYB & ML a bit more than the other two), but not as much as the aforementioned '10s duo.

Surprised no one's mentioned Foolish by Ashanti. See, every Sunday, one of the radio stations my family listens plays old school R&B hits from the 2000s. I've heard Usher, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Beyonce, but I've never heard Ashanti unless they're playing Always on Time with Ja Rule.
I'd also throw in a lot of Ja Rule's hits since I'm pretty sure most kids in the future will know Ja Rule as the guy behind Fyre Festival than being one of the most famous rappers in the early 2000s

I mean it's probably due to the fact AIWFCIY is played yearly during holiday season whereas We Belong Together, Always Be My Baby and her other big hits are played during throwback playlists or stations. It's still has cultural relevance: like you said, it brought Mariah Carey back after the disaster that was Glitter, and it's still fondly remembered. I'm pretty sure it's a karaoke staple for some people.

Since about 2005 she doesn't seem to have had major hits even at Urban/R&B, on the rare occasions she's recorded. Still, she hasn't fallen as far as Ja Rule, whose hits stopped at about the same time and since then when we've heard from him it's mostly been legal issues, prison, feuds, and Fyre Festival.
