One of the most baffling single choices I have ever seen a label make. I don't mind "Say Goodnight", I like it well enough, but there were so many better options on Life at Best. I thought for sure "The Fight" or "Skeletons" was going to be the single. "Every Other Memory" was another logical choice. This one and "I Love You" I thought were the two least likely to be released lol. I like the weird music video though lol.
[/div][/quote] Agree 100%. Life At Best is one of my all-time favorite albums, and it was loaded with songs that could've sustained their momentum at radio. And they released the single dullest song on the whole dang record (and the only one that never felt like a true EYB song). They've had a couple of hits since, but they never got back that momentum they lost from "Say Goodnight".

^ kw9461 ask the Eli Young Band and they'll tell you "Skeletons" is the one song in their career they wish would've been a radio single, so it's safe to say they wouldn't have picked "Say Goodnight" either.

Something about this song has always clicked for me, the harmonies are strong, the production works, and the overall vibe of the song feels kind of dark. Also great music video and it is a damn shame this never caught on with country radio.

It was the lead single off their comeback record, In Time. It peaked at #45 on Mediabase in July. The song was written by lead singer Raul Malo and James House. The song was the band's first single in eight years, which was their previous charting single ("The Air That I Breathe").
The Mavericks are a band headed by Raul Malo and are musically described as a Tex-Mex, neotraditional country band. The current lineup features Malo, Paul Deakin, Eddie Perez and Jerry Dale McFadden. The Mavericks scored 13 charting singles during the 90s, including "What a Crying Shame" and "All You Ever Do is Bring Me Down." Scott Borchetta and Jimmy Harnen signed them to BMLG in 2012 for a radio comeback.
I love The Mavericks and was overjoyed when I found out they would have another promoted single at country radio. "What a Crying Shame" is one of my all-time favorite songs and "Born to Be Blue" is great. It certainly wasn't destined to be a radio hit since it sounded so different and old school compared to radio in the summer of 2012, but glad they made a comeback.

It was the lead single off The Music of Nashville: Season 1 Volume 1. It peaked at #31 on Mediabase in January of 2013. The song was written by Hillary Lindsey and Cary Barlowe. The single was promoted by Big Machine Records. It would be Panettiere's only country radio charting single.
Panettiere was an actress on the hit TV show Nashville, where she played Juliette Barnes. She's appeared in dozens of other TV shows and movies.
I don't think Panettiere's a very strong vocalist but I like the song itself -- it's got fantastic production. I wonder what would've happened if a more established radio artost sang it.

I like Darius’s voice, and some of his material with Hootie and the blowfish. I want to like his country stuff more than I do. I’ve never really been able to get into many of his songs.

True Believers feels out too early, especially when we've got some true garbage like my #126 still around.

Wow, you all did "Runnin' Out Of Air" and "Telescope" horrendously dirty!
"Runnin' Out Of Air" is my fav Love & Theft song, the melody is incredible and I love the production too.
"Telescope" is a total jam, and again, that melody is out of this world good... especially in the chorus.
The Mavericks are great, I love their vocal style! "Born To Be Blue" is really good and I under-ranked it a bit.
I love Phil Vassar but find very little about "Don't Miss Your Life" enjoyable.
The songs from Canaan Smith and Darius Rucker were HORRIBLE.

Born To Be Blue did much better than what I expected. Love authentic Tex-Mex music once in a while. Thought Telescope would be higher though. Love me some upbeat jams (w.r.t. Radio mix)! And "But my eyes, my eyes, my eyes are like a telescope" is quite fun to sing! Ah the time that ZBB put out country music (in this case bluegrass-influenced). The Wind is also eliminated too soon!

“American Heart” got done surprisingly dirty here and I am LIVING for it lol. Horrible song and vocal performance.
Y’all can keep boring Dierks, I prefer the fun and catchy rockin’ side of Dierks. “5-1-5-0” is a certified jam!! I love him when he does this style.

Hard to believe that “American Heart” is Faith’s most recent solo single. I’d love to hear from her the real story of why she walked away from her career one day. I bet if she wrote a book it would be really interesting.

#72. The Farm - "Home Sweet Home"
Total Points: 1,479 Average: 67.2 Year Released: October, 2011 Mediabase Peak: #18 Billboard Peak: #19 Rankings: sabre14 - 1 Cody Wants Out... - 20 raylatch98 - 20 LBTrocks - 21 ClevelandRox - 42 recordyear - 48 bigfan101 - 51 Kanenrá:ke - 57 austin - 58 dgarcia3377 - 59 toomuchboy - 72 castleoblivion26 - 74 lady𝓐fan - 77 kw9461 - 81 tim - 84 someguy - 92 .indulgecountry - 94 bboat11 - 97 fireflies - 104 fearlessarrow - 108 gardyfan - 109 zaclord 🌈 - 110 Following: kamala 2024 truther"Home Sweet Home" was released as the debut single for The Farm in October of 2011 off Elektra Records/Warner Music Nashville/New Revolution Entertainment. It peaked at #18 on Mediabase in June of 2012 but held on to the chart through July. It was written by Nick Hoffman, Damien Horne, Krista Marie and Danny Myrick. The single was actually one of two Elektra Records country singles to make the top 20 that year, with Jana Kramer's "Why Ya Wanna" being the other.
The Farm are comprised off Nick Hoffman, Damien Horne and Krista Marie and "Home Sweet Home" was the first song they ever wrote together. Marie is a WNY native, growing up 40 minutes east of Buffalo in Batavia, NY. She's one of two WNY natives that has signed major record deals in the 2000s, with Ruthie Collins the other (Fredonia, NY).
I lose my #1 but I already decided I wasn't going to do well personally in this year's rankdown lol. I think "Home Sweet Home" really stood out at country radio and in a good way. Nothing else sounded like this and it was unique but also undeniably country. It has the traits of the MuzikMafia feel like Big & Rich with rocking elements but the harmonies, fiddle and lyrics swing it back to country music. I think it's fresh, creative and has one heck of a melody. The ending of the song is reminiscent of "Boondocks," where it goes off to a part of the song that isn't a verse or chorus but certainly better than just a normal repeat of the chorus. I love this song and I think it's underappreciated.
The silver-lining is I lose my #126 next lol...

"Home Sweet Home" has always been one of my favorites! That fiddle is heavenly. The melody is SO good too!! Super catchy song!! Should have done way better here, but hey, at least it made it kinda far.

It was listed with Atlantic/Warner Music Nashville but was only given a second radio and Texas regional push. The song was written by Brian Keane and Adam Hood. Keane released his version of the song in 2010 in Texas. It would be in 2014 Warner Music Nashville finally fully promoted a Josh Abbott Band single to mainstream radio, which was their only one ("Hangin' Around").
Writers Brian Keane and Adam Hood said the "tractors ain't sexy and working is hard" lyric was actually a swing at Jason Aldean's "Big Green Tractor", not Kenny Chesney's "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy." Abbott said they recorded the song, not to make friends with radio, but to be authentic and release a song that many people were feeling.
It makes sense why WMN didn't give this one a full push but I love this song and how it combats the clichés, which were heavy in late 2012-early 2013 on country radio --- it was perfect timing for the song. Love the fiddle and melody, too.

This song is pretty boring and it was the first sign that Lady A went back to the well one too many times -- the ballad-type of song. I think people were just fatigued by this point, and releasing it in the dead of summer, when they just came off another ballad, wasn't the recipe for success. I don't think the song was good enough, anyway.
