But Nas has only 6 mi monthly listeners on Spotify and the most streamed song off the album is at 100 mi. That's my point. I realize my wording could've been better, but I didn't mean quality-wise. More of a case of people keep listening to 20-year old pop songs, whether on Spotify or the radio or The Voice. Rap/Hip-Hop not so much. Lol? This couldn't be more wrong. It's a well documented in terms of memorability/recurrent stats, its actually Hip-Hop & Rock that do best from past decades. A lot of major Pop hits get lost in the mix, and are seen as disposable and aged badly more than any other genre. And you proved how remembered Hip-Hop classics are with Illmatic. The album has a song with 104 million streams that didn't even chart on Hot 100. Most of the #1's from the 90s don't even have 104 million streams. As for Hip-Hop classics not getting played on radio as much & covered on singing/talent-competitions... that has more to do with them not being family friendly. This is very interesting data for this discussion. Is there a longer list that is just not the top 10? I find it strange because if I look on Spotify, songs like Wannabe, Don't Speak or I Want it That Way have many more streams than most songs on that 90s list. If groups/bands are not included, then that "top 10" is quite misleading.

So did βOutkast: The Speakboxx/Love Belowβ and Jay-Zβs βThe Blueprintβ. π
π
π
The pop songs from The Love Below do seem more popular than the songs from Speakboxx nowadays. And The Blueprint still sounds great, but there's a fair chance that Jay-Z's songs with pop hooks will remain more popular than any track from The Blueprint. Do you just mean "Hey Ya" and "Roses," or others too? I always preferred Speakerboxx. "Ghetto Musick," "Bowtie," and "The Rooster" are my jams!

Speakerboxxx has only 1 song over 10M streams - The Way You Move 74M
The Love Below has 3 - Prototype -18M; Roses -176M & Hey Ya! - 562M
I don't know if they meant it still sounds good - then this album can be mentioned. But as an album that is still popular today this is one of the worst examples. Speakerboxxx has couple of songs below 1M streams.

If groups/bands are not included, then that "top 10" is quite misleading. Here is something regarding Spotify:
Most streamed albums each year: 90s - 5 rock & 5 hip-hop 00s - 5 rock; 3 hip-hop & 2 pop
Most streamed songs each year: 90s - 8 rock & 2 pop 00s - 6 rock; 3 hip-hop & 1 pop For songs you can look all the way back to 1948 and all you will find is rock songs (or any rock n roll subgenres)
Regarding more songs than just top 10 here you have top 100 dated 25-Aug-2019.
And here you have the most streamed artists on Spotify (as lead only - songs that are on the Artist's page) dated 10-May-2020. TOP 1000.
Here you have the most streamed legacy artists on Spotify (if you scroll a bit down).
And the tl;dr would be old rock songs are the most popular today, then hip-hop songs which are also popular, pop songs don't age as well as these two genres (popularity wise).

Lmaoo I found this post though about Girls Like You I'd say records are kind of irrelevant in the streaming era. Next year we could have a song with 40 weeks in top 10. Postie says hi. Also my own post from that thread I wouldn't be surprised if a pure pop song like Sweet But Psycho blew up as a 10 week number one soon to mark the beginning of another new era. Well my prediction didnβt come true yet, but Say So is basically a bubblegum disco song which seemed impossible a year or 2 ago. Itβs the closest thing weβve had to bubblegum pop at the top since Call Me Maybe, but with a modern flare. Watch Supalonely go #1 in a couple months. Just predicting the future as I do.

This is really good. Thank you for all the links. As for the 90s, that is more in line with what I expected. No rap or hip-hop there. The 00s list also makes sense and I can see a reason for each of the 3 rap/hip-hop songs being there.

I know this is like waaaay off the radar in terms of chart news to discuss this week, but with Intentions spending 11 weeks now in the top 10, isn't this the longest time in the top 10 for a song peaking at #8 (or lower)?

^ People are calling Changes a disappointing era, especially after Yummy's performance, but Intentions has quietly shaped up to be a pretty big hit.

Just for fun --- Most weeks in the top 10 - peaked at that spot or lower (The "Or Lower" criteria is the reason some songs listed more than once)
10. When The Lights Go Out, Five --- 7 9. Follow You Down/Til I Hear It From You, Gin Blossoms --- 8 8. Intentions, Justin Bieber --- 11 7. Needed Me, Rihanna ---- 16 6. Needed Me, Rihanna ---- 16 5. No Guidance, Chris Brown --- 23 4. No Guidance, Chris Brown --- 23 3. (tie)No Guidance-Chris Brown, Don't Let Me Down - Chainsmokers, Another Night - Real McCoy --- 23 2. How Do I Live, LeAnn Rimes ---- 32 1. Circles

B.I.G's Hiptonize damn what a great sound Got to give credit to Herb Alpert's "Rise" for that one. Talk about a 7-minute instrumental that went to #1. I'm sure that will never happen again.

It may never happen again but it didn't happen then either The single version was 3:47 in length The edited for radio 45 was the one that charted. The 7 minute version was on the album

Damn I forgot Nicki and Mariah actually had a collab I- It's a good one, too. The funny part of that whole thing is it wasn't even a thrown together remix it was a legit collaboration and legit chemistry and all. You could tell Mariah was having fun and Nicki was legit happy to be working with one of her idols.

Kenny Chesney Is First Country Act to Rule Artist 100 Chart This Year5/13/2020 by Xander Zellner He reigns as his new album, 'Here and Now,' opens atop the Billboard 200. Kenny Chesney re-enters the Billboard Artist 100 chart (dated May 16) at No. 1 to become the top musical act in the U.S. for a second total week, thanks to his new album, Here and Now. The set opens at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 233,000 equivalent album units, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, earning the country superstar his ninth No. 1 and tying him with Garth Brooks for the most among country acts in the chart's 64-year history. Chesney first led the Artist 100 dated Nov. 18, 2017, when his Live in No Shoes Nation also debuted atop the Billboard 200. Notably, Chesney is the first country act to rule the Artist 100 this year. Luke Combs last earned the honor, on Nov. 23, 2019, when his LP What You See Is What You Get launched atop the Billboard 200. Combs and Thomas Rhett were the only country acts to lead the Artist 100 last year. The Artist 100, which launched in 2014, measures artist activity across key metrics of music consumption, blending album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.

Can I bring up how "Heartless" is now no longer charting, and they still have not even shipped out the Vinyls from the week they sold them to go #1. Gotta love the bundles.

^Also the CDs have already shipped, so its most likely due to the process of manufacturing vinyls, which does take longer.

True, I'm also aware of the circumstances right now (even tho the Vinyl was supposed to be shipped in February before any lockdowns :kii: ). Bundles have already been so messy I never imagined it'd get to a situation where a single can leave the charts after half a year and not even having sales from release week shipped.
