This is great! I liked the more stripped down production. This could be my favorite Tim McGraw single since "Diamond Rings and Old Barstools"... Hopefully this can get him back on track after the underperformance of "Thought About You".

This is Tim McGraw at his absolute best! I've always felt he was one of the best story tellers in country music and I just love when he records these type of songs with such great imagery. The production is perfection. I really believe this will be a smash hit and return Tim to the top of the charts.

Glad to see this debut #32 at Mediabase (as per the daily update--don't know if that's official yet but the weekly update is coming soon I'm sure) as it is a damn good song that deserves to hit #1 imo. Love it! I liked "Neon Church" but not so much "Thought About You" and...I'm just gonna pretend "Way Down" is by Jason Aldean...this one here is the best I've heard from Timmy in awhile! He's at his best here.

I can certainly see this single faltering within the next week, simply because being released directly ahead of Mother’s Day weekend provided a quick niche advantage for a high debut. I could be wrong and I hope I am; I’d love to see a Tim McGraw single successfully climb the charts without puttering out in the teens. But perhaps rather than playing the long game, the label is content to have earned a splashy chart debut for what is likely a commercial one-off single rather than a lead for an upcoming album.
ETA: Does anyone know for certain if this is the lead off Tim’s forthcoming album? I do want to emphasize that, my previously stated reservations aside, the song really is tender and quite beautiful. Thematically, it reminds me of “Live Like You We’re Dying.”

Wow, this one is showing 146 adds today, and since that's a Hits Daily Double number, it might be a station or two higher by the time the official add report comes out later today. That almost clears the panel (157 stations).
The record is "Beer Never Broke My Heart," which got 149 adds on impact day almost to the day last year. Incredible total of adds for Tim.

Great start for Tim! Hopefully this will be the hit that "Thought About You" should have been.

Love sound, lyrics, vocal (and also the lyric video on Youtube is so gorgeous) Great song! After the release it was constantly in the top 10 all genere Itunes (with #2 peak). I hope it will be his 30 official n.1 on BB and i think Big Machine is the right choice.

For lack of a better word, let's just call this sublime song for what it is---EXTRAORDINARY!!!!
I would love for this to become a multi-week charttopper that would go down in the history books as being among the very biggest hits of his career.

I echo the sentiments of the masses: Tim McGraw is back with this one. This is textbook Timmy when he's "on," and it shows. Love seeing the overwhelming response out of the gate from country radio, and hope that momentum continues and this turns into a big hit for him. Wonderful lyric and beautifully delivered. Definitely his strongest single choice since "Humble and Kind," and I'm cautiously optimistic that this will be his first smash hit since then as well. He really whiffed on his picks for radio the last few years and the announcement that he was considering "Way Down" seemed like it would be a nail in the coffin for his hit-making days, so I'm glad that never happened.
Random observation about the song, but the way he sings the word "water" in the chorus just makes me melt.

Official video of "I called Mama"
I have a question: this song is very young; today on Aircheck bullettin, i read that Big Machine asks to the radios to quickly convert the song...does anyone knows why so fast?

To increase spins at stations across the board to a higher level of rotation. It's usually associated with milestones, like as a song is approaching the top 10 on the airplay chart, or when a song is gearing up for a final push (usually to #1), signified by a 'Max Spins' request. It's radio promotion jargon.

I'm not sure if this is syndicated play or anything (I do see some iHeartMedia stations but I see other stations too - although all the stations that show up in starters on All Access is showing 2 spins except for one station which has 3 plays) but "I Called Mama" is now charting on AC. I don't think it indicates a crossover to AC just yet but it was interesting to see this one pop up.
AC: -- 34 TIM MCGRAW I Called Mama 44 0 44 0.089
Edit: well on the Sunday published update this was at #44 with 23 spins so I wonder what's happening here.

The video for this is great. Pretty much the production level as can be expected for these current times, and they executed the concept really well. This song continues to do really well. I think this is Tim's biggest hit since "Humble And Kind".

“I Called Mama” becomes Tim’s highest peaking single since “How I’ll Always Be” this week, clocking in at #15! I’m really rooting for this one to keep moving towards the top 10, because it’s been way too long.

I love this song. When he was promoting the song, he said numerous times the album would be out in September. Seems like a release date should be announced soon along with pre-order.

I am thinking tomorrow he will announce the release date of the Here On Earth album. He has been using the hashtag Here on Earth for the past 3 days. He mentioned several times September album release, so it would make sense to go ahead and announce date & pre-order.
