Dierks is consistently one of the more popular male artists in Pulse's esteem, so it shouldn't be a surprise to see him do so well here! In fact, he was our most consistent contender for #3 for the majority of the rankdown! Everything that is left proved to be popular and competitive though, so as more lists came in there was just enough of an anchor in the 20s to make Dierks stumble. Still, #7 is really good, so it looks like this is gonna be another Pulse Favorite for him!

Mickey is just such an incredible vocalist, I can't help but be drawn in even when it's a song that doesn't necessarily need a powerhouse performance to sell it. "Somethin' Bout You" is one of those songs. It doesn't really allow Mickey's voice to shine, but it is still a lot of fun in her hands! There is something about this melody that has just sucked me in every time I have heard it. I can understand this one missing the top 5 and/or not being everybody's cup of tea, because like I said there isn't really anything specific about it that would jump out to someone. But it's just a fun, pleasant listen, which is where its charm lies imo. I also love that Mickey is regularly releasing music these days after so many years of silence earlier in her career. And that this new music seems to be following the overall industry trends of swinging back closer to a more country sound! This sounds closer to her earlier stuff like "Pretty Little Mustang" and "Why Baby Why" rather than her recent stuff like "Black Like Me"/"Bridges". Not that her recent stuff has been bad by any means! But I just love the swing back towards country

"Country Can" is a nice celebration of country music and the country lifestyle, that proves you don't need to release arena-rocking cliched generic party-anthems to celebrate the country lifestyle! (**Cough cough** Jason Aldean **cough**) Who'da thunk! Thank you, Hannah, for helping kill bro country Idk if I pegged this for a top 5 contender, but it's always nice to have a random surprise in the upper regions of these rankdowns!

Ultimately I couldn't quite get over how badly "Watermelon Moonshine" was trying to be "Strawberry Wine" 2.0. It's basically the same song with a less engaging melody and a different drink. (Ironically, of COURSE Flops would love this one ) I love Lainey Wilson, and do like this one alright, but I feel like I am going to like quite a few things on her new album better than this one.

I'm really impressed that Ashley McBryde was able to take a random cover all the way to the top 3!! "Straight Tequila Night" is a damn great song no matter how you slice it, and Ashley is a damn great singer, so I was not surprised at how great this was. I don't think it touches the original (it's just SUCH a classic!), but I definitely enjoy this for what it is! I think John Anderson would say he is honored by this cover if we could ask him.

With that, we are down to our top two! Two artists who are proven winners... One of whom is our reigning champion as well, after winning last month with "Love Is a Cowboy"! Parker was of course our first male artist to ever win this series with "Young Man's Blues" back in one of our earlier months! But does he have a chance of winning when the competition is the reigning champion who is currently experiencing a release-month surge in popularity?! Stay tuned!! Handle On You vs. THE LITTLE THINGS

I'm not impressed with Hannah Ellis so far. "Country Can" is definitely better than her other song tho Also idk what is wrong with our lovely host bboat11 but "Watermelon Moonshine" has an absolutely EXQUISITE melody. I wanted to rank it higher but had no room lol

Glad to see some decent rankings for "Ex Appeal". It did not become my fav instantly, but I somehow decided to add it in my playlist, and now it is on repeat and made it to my suggestion. bboat11's comparison of her with Kalie is pretty accurate, especially with her early materials.

Great top 2- but "Handle On You" is the better song tbh
Also really loved Ashley McBryde's cover of "Straight Tequila Night" she absolutely nailed it.

WOW @ everyone putting Parker in their top 10!
Definitely deserving tho, it's a really great song and easily the best thing he's done since "Young Man's Blues"

This is perfect top 2!! "THE LITTLE THINGS" is a catchy bop, and instrumental production is very pleasant. Not sure if it would be the best follow-up to "HEARTFIRST", given the similarity of the song, but I hope it will be a single one day.
"Handle On You" is a stunning song. I thought "Young Man's Blue" was as great as Parker can get, but he proved me wrong. It's an impeccable song with strong lyrics, production, and melody. This better be a huge hit.

And there you go! Parker was able to do it!! Kelsea was every bit the huge contender everyone expected her to be, but Parker McCollum was absolutely unstoppable! He grabbed onto the #1 spot by our second submission, and in the end finished with only HALF the points that Kelsea got. There was absolutely no competition!
I can see "THE LITTLE THINGS" maybe being a tad too cutesy for some people, or maybe too poppy, but personally I have come to love it more and more since the album came out. This album is just full of catchy tunes, and this definitely deserves to be counted among them. This production and instrumentation that Kelsea has embraced lately is exactly what I have been wanting from her. I can't wait to see how she does next month with two songs that are even better!!!
That being said, "Handle On You" coming to victory here is a victory for George Strait-style country, and I am HERE FOR THAT!!!! I could 100% hear George singing this and taking it all the way to #1 even as recently as ten years ago, although it also has the classic feel to it like it could have come from any point in his career, which is something George somehow frequently managed to do, and yet is an extremely rare accomplishment for anyone non-George to ever manage to pull off. I really hope Parker latches onto this style, because he could absolutely become one of my favorite male artists in the genre if he finds a way to make this and "Young Man's Blues" into his permanent sound....

15. At least it has a decent chorus for a pop country song. 14. George Strait Junkie ranked this at #3? It sounds like one of the songs he would tank lmao, especially that overproduced guitar part in the bridge. 13. This is also slightly better than expected even with all the “no”s. 12. Nope this is a great song, and Sunny Sweeney is a much more expressive singer than Wade Bowen anyway so it should have finished way better than Wade/Vince collab last month. 11. I don’t know, the lyrics are a bit underwhelming for the theme. 10. I still don’t get the hype of her in Pulse. Maybe she sounds too much like Maren Morris for my liking? 9. Also not big on her vocals tbh. 8. Now this is a cute song and slightly more memorable than the songs mentioned above. She needs to release EP or album soon. 7. Wow he is lacking melodies these days. At least it is not Gone 3.0 but 3 out of 4 lines of chorus having the same melody and the second half of the lines is basically the same four notes…The unreleased songs from his upcoming albums better be #gold to make me turn around. 6. And more forgettable commercial radio songs, but what’s the point of making them if they are not sent to country radio? 5. Lol Jason Aldean as a reference point is like the lowest bar one can find these days. Also don’t really like the pun of “can” here (wasn’t it used by Luke Combs already lmao). 4. At least it copied melodies of better songs. 3. This song could really sell as one of her original songs (and better than the original tbh). The slightly subdued take is probably a better fit of the mood of the girl mentioned in the song, and Ashley McBryde is a terrific singer. 2. Again not particularly fond of the lack of melodies in the chorus (first 10 out of 14 syllables have the same note), it is actually one of the weaker songs from the album to me. 1. At least I can get behind Parker McCollum this time, and the gap between #1 and #2 is huge. It got some good one-liners and a solid TX country production.

Excellent top 2! I kinda figured Parker might take the crown on this one considering his prior win with "Young Man's Blues," and considering that "Handle on You" is somehow even better. I honestly wasn't sure he could top that one after how disappointing Gold Chain Cowboy was as a whole, especially the choice to not even include YMB on it. But "Handle" is just perfection. It's everything I needed from him if he intended on sticking around as a mainstream artist. I hope there's more like it to come from him and less garbage like "To Be Loved by You."

Hi everyone! I want to apologize. There was WAY too much going on in my life right before my trip, I thought I would be able to get this done, but in the end there was just no way. Trying to pack and clean and do laundry and fold clothes and figure out arrangements for the pets all while being in the first week of second quarter and trying to get new classes off the ground before abandoning them for me to take several days off... Haha it's as crazy as it sounds.
However, I am now home, and I am going to get the October list posted ASAP, and then get September reveals started!!!! I'm not too worried about being a tad off schedule right now, because the November list being a Christmas rankdown will allow some flexibility next month, like having a smaller gap between the deadlines for the October list and the November list :)
