Well, that was a pleasant surprise! It's no secret that neither of these ladies are among my fav artists, but both have a few songs that I have enjoyed. Sadly for Carly, "Oklahoma" is not one of them for me. "Truck on Fire" is catchy tho. "Man on the Moon" on the other hand is a total bop, and my fav from Megan's latest album. Not really a fan of her voice so she always ends up lower than I expect on my list, but I do love the song and actively listen to it.

Would prefer You Look Like You Love Me with any other male partner than Riley Green because he is quite :mimi: as a person that I feel gross at the thought of being attracted to him, but I am also fully aware of this song will not be popular if he is not the male part so...
That 2-4 range is one of the best results this rankdown series have made. The Hill has a weird verse-chorus combo but I do like the bleakness of the lyrics. Truck on Fire has way better usage of the nursery rhyme than Shania's effort. While Oklahoma has that abbreviation pun, it (randomly) reminds me of No U in Oklahoma by Reba and I feel a bit underwhelmed.
Man on the Moon is probably one of the best Megan Moroney songs I have heard. I actually read the lyrics before listening to it and was tired of her "humor" (not unlike Sabrina Carpenter in that compartment tbh), but the delivery sells it well.

So where was I:
Come Rest Your Head (On My Pillow): Love the story behind this one (she saw a gal with Cowboy Pillows on her t-shirt, which I have also seen at concerts). Nice traditional song that is up my ally. Vince Gill makes everything better.
Down in Georgia: Standard Josh Turner song in the vein of Lay Low or Deep South, which I love. (Also co-written by Tyler Booth, from last rankdown, whom I also love)
Gettin' Back up to Heaven: I should like Mae Estes (she did some shows with Zach Top a while back) but this one I just didn't care for.
Sad Girl Summer: Much like Chris Young (and the opposite of almost everyone else), I prefer Maddie and Tae's slower songs to the upbeat stuff. This is ok, but shook out to the lower end of the middle.
911: This was a pretty good rocker. (was gonna say barn burner, but that's what .indulgecountry said
Downfall: This was all right, but I'm not as enamored with Sara Evans as the rest of the board. (That's not quite true, just that I was enamored with her 20 years ago.)
Set My Heart on Fire: This was good. I generally like Lauren Watkins and don't care for Sheryl Crow. Averaged out in favor of Ms. Watkins.
Pour Me a Drink: This is pretty good but over exposed already. Blake's last hurrah or the beginning of a resurgence?
I Don't Wanna Dance: See Downfall, minus the parens.
The Little Things: George Strait doing George Strait things. Nice.
Unbroke: See Downfall, including the parens.
You Look Like You Love Me: Oh my! Put my in the mind of the old Bobby Bare (etc.) spoken words songs. So a great throwback. I also love Riley Green and Ella Langley has really made me do a 180.
The Hill: Really liked this one.
truck on fire: Carrie did it better, and really think Carly is getting stuck in a rut.
Oklahoma: Same, but liked this one better.
Man on the Moon: I really like Megan Moroney's songwriting and singing and this was a good example there of.

We kick off the July set with Bailey Zimmerman's rowdy country pride anthem "New to Country." Unfortunately for him, he comes in last pretty decidedly here, with an over 30-point separation between this and our penultimate song this month that will be revealed next. He wasn't without his fans though as both myself and LBTrocks placed it top half (#guiltypleasure), with the latter losing a top 3 rank right off the bat. Only taylor actually yields a perfect ranking here, though nearly everyone else slotted this bottom 5 nonetheless.

On the heels of Bailey's country rock falls another as Koe Wetzel's "Leigh" bows out. A fan favorite cut from his latest LP, 9 Lives, he managed a trio of top half ranks, one of which comes at the expense of tim's top 10 this time. OTOH, the rest had this one comfortably bottom 10 in their ranks.

Austin Snell makes it a three-peat for the country rockers in the bottom 3 as "More Alcohol" doesn't get far from Wetzel or Zimmerman, though Snell was within 10 points of the next highest song, so it did fare a bit better than those two. Sadly, the big losses continue for LBTrocks who becomes the first poster to lose their #1 in the July set here, on the heels of a prior top 3 loss already. A few other ranks in the teens came in for this song, but otherwise once again the majority of the ranks landed somewhere in the bottom 10 range.

"New to Country" was extremely bad. The melody and vocal was the worst I have ever heard from Bailey. Hopefully he is going to stay away from this style.

Nothing of value is lost. The "joke" in Leigh is really not funny, while More Alcohol has hard-to-listen vocals from Austin Snell and the one from September list is even worse somehow.
That being said I hope my last place will leave sooner or later.

Ashley Monroe breaks up the boys club as the first female to depart the July set. "Hot Rod Pipe Dream" is certainly a far cry from the pristine neo-traditional weepers she made a name for herself with. Lately she's been a bit more miss than hit, sadly, as this showing suggests, especially considering she accumulated a total of three last place ranks. A few top-half ranks, including a pair of top 10s, was enough to keep her out of the bottom 3, but that was the best she could hope for here.

"I Think You're the Greatest" wound up being one of the most polarizing songs of the month, and survived being the lowest female-led song by a mere 1-point margin. Between Lorrie Morgan's weathered voice and the atypical lyrical content of the track being sung from the perspective of a dog, it either tugged at the heartstrings (as evidenced by four top 10s that were led by a #2 from bboat11), or drove the song right to the bottom of the heap (Lorrie managed to pull in a whopping six bottom 2 ranks here).

Hot Rod Pipe Dream is a bit sonically misfit for Ashley Monroe's vocal style but it's not bottom 5 bad. Same for I Think You're the Greatest where Lorrie Morgan's vocals aren't quite the best nowadays but the dog story is fine (and this is from a person who doesn't own any pets).

July was one of the rare month that I hated quite a few songs. I'm quite lenient towards modern country, so I usually only hate like bottom 2-3 songs max in this series, but I could not stand bottom 6 songs in this month. And Ashley Monroe was just intolerable. Still "I Like Train" from her from last month was worse tho.

New to Country-- Ugh Leigh-- Also meh. More Alcohol-- A little too much gravel in Austin's voice. Ok otherwise. Hot Rod Pipe Dream-- The bass line in this reminded me of 'Garbage Truck' by Sex Bob-Omb (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World). This is good, but not my brand country. I Think You're the Greatest-- Love Lorrie, by the voice is getting thin. This one is just too cheesy for me.

Brett Young was looking like one of the future faces of the genre in his debut era, but he's really fallen off in recent years and landed in a bit of a creative rut. "Goodnight Into Good Morning" sounds like the typical fare you'd expect from him, thankfully with a bit more tempo than many of his recent songs at least. Overall it was able to only secure a lone top 10 from austin, while the majority put it bottom 10, though noticeable lacking the disdain that previously revealed tracks experienced.
