My number 2 should go any time now, too. LBTrocks has now lost his entire top 3 and we aren't even done with the bottom 10 reveals yet. "River Black" by Dillon James is another country rocker, but this one fared at least just a little bit better (emphasis on little bit) than the ones that made up our July set's bottom 3. Flops was joined by one other top 10 from castleoblivion26, though most ranks indicated minimal passion for this one.

Polarizing country juggernaut Morgan Wallen's "Lies Lies Lies" is the next to be ousted. His latest #1 hit, he cracked three posters' top 10s, and had a few additional ranks in the teens, but, again, the majority of its ranks fell in the bottom 10 range. castleoblivion26 loses his #30 here. The next 4 songs in the set finished in a pair of ties, with two songs at 256 points and the other two at 255 points, so the race for the top 20 was quite tight to say the least.

Luckily for Zach Bryan, his song "28" did not land nearly that low in the set... but a finish just outside the top 20 was the best he could manage. Bringing an offkey interesting vocal approach, he scans as quite polarizing with the country music audience on Pulse, though he has amassed quite a cult following. He ended up with four top 10s that were led by a #2 best from Darkest Hour, though he also experienced several bottom 5s that included a pair of #30s from myself and LBTrocks.

Dasha wins the tiebreaker over Zach Bryan thanks to a #1 rank, this time courtesy of 🌺CountryLineDancer. She comes up shy of a top 20 finish for "Didn't I" by a mere 1-point margin. Her crossover appeal is a bit polarizing thus far with the Pulse audience, and it remains to be seen if she can turn the viral success of "Austin" into longterm success. She had an additional pair of top 10 ranks and a few in the teens, but she suffered from quite a few more bottom 10s than anything, including a #29 from castleoblivion26 who has now lost his bottom 2 in a matter of just a few reveals.

24. Dillon James is the constant khia artist included in this series that is consistently decent to me. It helps that the production is cleaner than usual for this kind of sound.
23. I would probably rank it a bit lower in YE list because I am slightly burnt out of it, but I did like the more solemn mood for this. Better than Love Somebody as well which is a lazy attempt of being catchy.
22. Aged like milk considering it is about his ex, but melodically it sounds so much like one of the Jason Isbell songs (Volunteer) that is hard to ignore but still great and should not be bottom 10 and lower than that terrible cover.
21. We definitely need stomp and holler version of Mean in 2024 /s, but really she somehow sings worse here than Austin. Those vocals are so breathy...

Also don't think September reveals will happen until next year so before I forgot, is it really necessary to rank a khia pro-Trump song (Anne Wilson - Stand, that was made in response to assassination attempt) in this bloated set?

In the next tie that was able to secure top 20 peaks, Russell Dickerson's "Bones" loses thanks to only yielding a pair of low top 10 ranks, indicating minimal passion for this ode to marriage dedicate to his wife (a perennial topic in his work). OTOH, four posters get a perfect ranking here as the majority had this one somewhere in the 17-23 range, so this wound up being a pretty fitting finish for Russell here.

Machine Gun Kelly (MGK) has traversed many genres over the years, but this year he did something pretty left-field and offered up this effective cover of Zach Bryan's "Sun to Me" which promptly went viral and charted well on Hot Country Songs, a chart he'd yet to grace previously. Not a stranger to being a polarizing artist, he managed to load up on some bottom ranks with a pair of #30s and a #29 weighing him down, but he wasn't without his fans as just under half of us opted for a top-half rank, with 🌺CountryLineDancer's #3 best allowing this to win the tiebreaker.

I never cared for Sun To Me as a song, until I encountered this cover. I really like his delivery here, and I hope to hear more country songs from MGK. It's just a good example of how a change in vocalist and production can improve a song.

Kaitlin Butts' dramatic "Other Girls (Ain't Havin' Any Fun)" off her Roadrunner! record was a polarizing option in the July set. Darkest Hour is the latest to lose their #1 rank, ironically immediately after the loss of his #30 rank, with a 3-point margin separating the two songs' finishes. She managed another two top 10 ranks, but everyone else had this bottom half, with four posters receiving a perfect ranking with its #18 finish, and a plethora more seeing a bottom 10 loss extinguished.

Comedian and occasional country artist Danae Hays is the next to go as "Dick in My Nightstand," her humor-filled ode to skipping the nuisance of men in favor of self-pleasure, bows out just a few spots shy of the top 15. Three posters slotted her top 10, with austin giving a #2 best ranking. She managed to rack up five bottom 5s, however, which depleted her batteries.

Joe Nichols is the final song to be ousted in the lower half of the July set, as "Bottle It Up" comes up shy by a 6-point margin. This toe-tapping little ditty is pretty classic Joe, which was good enough to score it high marks from four posters who opted for a top 10 placement. OTOH, it was underwhelming for many as it landed in quite a few bottom 10s, including three bottom 5s.

20. Definitely a better recent song from him but his whiny singing still annoys me a lot.
19. A very tacky cover tbh especially with those whistles. Also didn't hear any "emotive abilities" whatsoever, and this is from someone who doesn't really like Zach Bryan's singing.
18. Good taste from Kris Kringle and George Strait Junkie, but really this song fits more in album context as the moment of self actualization. I also thought more people will accustom to her voice after more exposure but sadly it wasn't the case.
17. Decent joke song, nice line potentially about Fancy Like btw
16. The production sounds too rough and I don't like the hook which can be annoying fast.

Not a fan of this girl at all. I like some of her music, but this over-wrought mess ain't it. The verses are sleep-inducing and chorus feels more like something out of a bad musical. Joe Nichols is the final song to be ousted in the lower half of the July set, as "Bottle It Up" comes up shy by a 6-point margin. This toe-tapping little ditty is pretty classic Joe, which was good enough to score it high marks from four posters who opted for a top 10 placement. I haven't been as fond of some of Joe's recent attempts to modernize, so I'm glad he still has this in his wheelhouse. He's always been able to use the warmth of his delivery to elevate songs that might be snoozers in lesser hands. This song fits perfectly into a catalog with songs like "Gimmie That Girl" and "What's a Guy Gotta Do", and if this were 15 years ago he'd probably headed towards the top 5 with this one.

Tanner Adell improves on her previous performance from earlier this year as "Whiskey Blues" failed to reach the top 20 in April, but she lands squarely in the middle of the July set. "Cowboy Break My Heart" features a catchy stomp-clap approach that made it a bit polarizing as she tripled up on her best rank of #4 (courtesy of 🌺CountryLineDancer, SHOOTER, and austin), while also tripling up on bottom 5s (earmarked by tim's #30). Most of her ranks fells in the middle of the pack, however.

Unlike Tanner, The Castellows did not improve upon prior performances in this rankdown. They found themselves in the top 3 twice for "Hurricane" and "A Little Goes a Long Way" last winter, but this time around their harmonica-laden "Miss America" waves the white flag at #14. The harmonies are still iron-clad, but the song didn't quite spark the joy they've previously attained on Pulse. They evenly split down the middle between top half and bottom half ranks from the participant pool, with four top 10s, and four bottom 10s.
