I love Ryan Hurd, and I was super excited for this duet, but I don't love this as much as I wanted to. This is like the 11th best song by Ryan Hurd :(

After a rough run of things with her new songs last summer, Lainey Wilson has been on fire lately since the release of her new album! After hitting #2 in last month's rd with "Neon Diamonds", she nearly replicates the same peak with "Sayin' What I'm Thinkin'" this month! This song was one of SHOOTER 's recommendations, and I agree that it is one of my favorites from her new album. This was #2 early on, but it settled into that #3 position for more than 2/3 of the submission period, with no chance of getting higher but also no risk of falling lower. Just a very solid contender overall! Edit: I forgot the trajectory graph above, so I just edited it in, lmao.

I LOVE "Chasing After You" and "Give It To Me Straight" !!! Both are such wonderful songs and I hope Tenille chooses hers as the follow-up to her first #1 (manifest it)!!!

Alright, for the second time since this series began, an artist with 2 songs occupied the entire top 2! This time it's Carly Pearce; the first time it was Queen Dolly in the Christmas rankdown I try to avoid including multiple songs by the same artist in the same month (Jamie O'Neal was an exception that one month because I was OBSESSED with her album and couldn't choose 😂, and I made some exceptions for the Christmas rd for the artists that had the most hype.) However, Carly's new music has had sooooo much Pulse hype for months now, and especially the past month because she finally put out a whole EP! Both "Should've Known Better" and "29" were requested by several people, so I felt like the most fair thing to do would be to include them both. And lo and behold, one of them was #1 for nearly the entire submission process, and the other one was #1 for almost the entire rest of the submission process!! Lmao these were both super-competitors!! Without further ado, let's see which one comes out ahead!!!

YES.
I mean these are my two too so i would be happy with either, but 29 just gets me. Lyrically, it’s so strong and Carly’s vocals are insane.

I love both of these songs from Carly (and this entire EP!!!) but man oh man is "29" just a diamond. Its lyrics are so cutting, the production is great, and I relate too much to the If youth is wasted on the young then have I wasted mine? moment. Wonderful, wonderful song and the correct winner! Thanks for hosting bboat11!

There you have it!!! "Should've Known Better" proved to be less polarizing, and as a result it was actually the bigger #1 contender. It occupied that #1 spot for more than 10 lists, and looked to be the runaway #1 contender for quite awhile, despite having no #1 ranks itself. "29" had to fight its way past a few more lower ranks, but ultimately once it caught up to its adversary it easily locked up that #1 spot! The fact that it got #1 votes from 12 people went a long way towards making that possible. Imo, "Should've Known Better" has the better melody, so I can listen to it more often, but "29" has the better lyricism! In fact, "29" is probably going to go down as one of the most formidable lyrical masterpieces of 2021 This is a very fitting top 2, and I am so happy to see us mostly agree on how amazing Carly's output has been lately! I look forward to seeing what comes later this year when she inevitably releases an extended version of this album! Her artistry is at an all-time high. "Should've Known Better" is now the 3rd song from this era to win in the New Releases series, with "Show Me Around" winning in December, and "Next Girl" winning last September.

"29" is one of the best songs Carly Pearce has put out. It's actually interesting how I didn't like half of her debut album but she's turned into a very consistent artist over her self-titled album and this 29 EP.

An Olivia Benson GIF because this is especially heinous. I ranked Should’ve Known Better very high, it’s a great song. “29” has a decent hook but plods along and she sounds like a muppet vocally. Not my jam. Happy she is seeing consistent success though, we need more women making waves!

8. I feel I have heard this chord progression too much. 7. Never like the fake edgy vibe tbh. 6. This is on the better side of throwback. Probably can get decent country airplay too. 5. Her singles choice are becoming weaker and weaker for me. I don't really like how she delivered the song title. 4. I don't like either artists but this is surprisingly decent. They harmonize really well. That music video looks quite awkward though. 3. I think her vocals are underrated as they are very versatile, album wise it's a bit inconsistent but this is one of best songs from tbe album so I'm glad it finishes this high. 2 & 1. They have her sharpest lyrics, but they don't have strongest memorable melody. Still acceptable top 2.

Oh good to see the correct Carly Pearce song came out on top and that in the end it really wasn't all that close (12 #1s vs 0 #1s, lol). SKB is merely fine, but "29" is just a true force to be reckoned with. It's amazing that she had a career song like "It Won't Always Be Like This" that she left unreleased on her last album and then she came out swinging with something like "29" which is RIGHT there with it in terms of quality. Just immaculate.

Very very glad to see "Left Right" get a lot of love! It's such a fun jam and I'm hoping Sony sees fit to make it a single sometime this year!

I think "Girls Call the Shots" would be the better radio option from her, but I am hoping that Hannah Dasher gets a proper push with something soon because she really has a different sound to her that I think is missing in the country scene today. She really reminds me of the old school women of country, and it's a very refreshing vibe.
