Overall a great reveal. "Trash My Ears" is awful, "Almost Maybes" is just there and mediocre. The verses felt a little clunky on "The Optimist" but otherwise I thought it was a gorgeous song - it was robbed :'( I appreciate the lyrics in "Julianna Calm Down" but musically it's not interesting at all to me which makes it really hard for me to like the song. "Got Me" is my least favorite song on Goldmine, and before bboat11 yells at me for tanking every single song that is "too religious" for me... I actually agree with LBTrocks that the chorus is the only good part of the song. The verses fall flat in my eyes and I certainly don't care for the lyrics so it's definitely going to be a track I skip when I play the album. I'm assuming we'll be able to rank another Gabby Barrett song for June since her album came out this month - I'll be kinder to her then for sure. I got my bottom 4 out with these 5 reveals so even if I lost a top 10, I'm satisfied with the way things are going so far!

Nothing out in the bottom 5 came too much as a surprise other than the fact that "Only Children" and "Fire and Flame" escaped that fate. As for "Julianna Calm Down" this isn't a song that I initially liked much, but what I did leave thinking is that it's quite intriguing. I listened to it a handful of times and found that it kept getting stuck in my head, so I finally ended up looking up the backstory of the song and it kind of put the pieces of the puzzle together in my mind. Anyways, it's not a song that has much replay value for me and does leave me wondering exactly what this era holds in store for us. The roller coaster continues next with our first multi #1 loss!!! I'm pretty sure I know what this one is...

So wild that the bottom 5 actually had more female acts in it than male ones. Is this even Pulse? Lol... mess. Only Kelleigh belonged down there imo. I'm not terribly surprised about "Julianna," but "Got Me" has me shocked. I really would never have expected that would come anywhere near that low. We need to start clipping the males now.

Trash My Heart: Agree with the consensus that an old dude trying to blend in the younger crowd is embarrassing. See also: OMW means On My Way by Zac Brown Band. Almost Maybes: Still don't know why some people gave him a pass for being pop-country. It's not like his pop-country is noteworthy stuff. The Optimist: The first line is so faux-edgy like you-know-who, and the melody is very cluttered. This is originally my last place too. Julianna Calm Down: This is at least a minute too long and the A Sky Full of Stars -ish chorus doesn't help. Got Me: In addition to not being Christian, the song structure is so 2000s, although she sings well I guess.

We kick off our reveals today with "Fire And Flame", our first multi-#1 loss...just as castleoblivion26 and tim feared :'( It saw a HUGE spike early on when their lists came back-to-back, but then proceeded to sneak lower gradually for the rest of the submission process. Kip Moore is not for everybody. His voice and material seem to be very polarizing on Pulse, so we been knew that this song would probably not do too well here. Those who don't like him tend to dislike everything he touches, while those who enjoy him tend to LOVE him. Hence the extreme differences between the multiple #1s and the string of bottom 3 ranks. However, this song did not get any last places, and the majority of lists seemed to put it right in the middle! That is undoubtedly what helped it to escape the bottom 5, alongside with the #1s and bottom 3s kinda cancelling each other out.

Kip Moore's previous album didn't really grab my attention the way that Wild Ones did so I hesitated a bit in listening to his new release. I really just put it on as I needed to shake up the mix of songs I had been listening to and it was really a one-two punch with both "Southpaw" and "Fire and Flame" becoming instant favorites. I've not only had this song on repeat all month but the entire album as well and I'm just content with the fact that this was able to escape the bottom 5.

More bland, faceless male country... For as much as people act like Ryan Hurd is some huge superstar in the making that the genre NEEDS to hear, I still have yet to hear anything from him that left any lasting impact on me whatsoever...

I couldn't even remember how "Every Other Memory" went and that in of itself is the problem with this as it really just blends in with every other country song being sung by yet another male artist. That said, I do enjoy the song well enough and probably wouldn't hit skip should it come on the radio...but it still remains forgettable.

Oh look, tim gets revenge on ClevelandRox for taking out Kip Moore!!!! Seeing as I have criticized songs like "Almost Maybes" and "Every Other Memory" for being bland, faceless male country, it's only fair for me to acknowledge similar faults in female country. And this song is the definition of bland female country. It is definitely elevated by the fact that it is sung by Danielle Bradbery, who is one of the strongest female vocalists in the genre right now. I love everything about her, from her tone to her power to her vibrato to her stylistic and vocal range. She is one of those vocalists who could sing literally anything she wants to (seriously, look at her covers on YouTube!) Unfortunately, a great vocalist can only do so much with bland source material. Edit: I just realized ClevelandRox didn't actually help tank Kip Moore Guess I need to start doing better research before I throw shade!!

I thought "Fire and Flame" as a song itself was good... if only it wasn't by Kip Moore lol - I did not like his voice here (more than usual).
Oh thank goodness I wasn't the only one who thought "Never Have I Ever" was sort of bland, I thought I would be in the minority.

I'm glad that I'm not alone in thinking that "Never Have I Ever" was just incredibly bland. If the males of country can so easily get called out for it so can the females and this song is a good definition of bland female country music.

I'm glad that I'm not alone in thinking that "Never Have I Ever" was just incredibly bland. If the males of country can so easily get called out for it so can the females and this song is a good definition of bland female country music. I should just clarify that when I call a male song "bland and faceless", it refers to the fact that there are SO many younger male artists who just have absolutely nothing new or fresh or unique to offer the genre whatsoever, and they all blend together for me. With the female artists, there are less of them, so even when they put out bland material, the songs are not exactly faceless to me. I think that's an important distinction to make between me calling out Jordan Davis versus Danielle Bradbery, lol. It's like a female artist can put out bland songs but still have a unique niche in the genre. But for him, it is absolutely meant to connote that I believe there is no reason under the sun why he should even have a recording contract 😂

I agree that whereas Jordan Davis is faceless and bland Danielle's song was just bland

Regarding "Only Children", this is a very laid-back and easy to listen to song. The song draws immense power from its lyrical strength, and Jason sounds great. Sambalada joins ClevelandRox , castleoblivion26 , and tim in the #1 losses club, unfortunately. For me, a lot of this more Americana-style of music just kinda blends together, and while I do enjoy listening to it in the moment, I have never managed to find this song memorable enough to put it any higher on my list than I did. I'm glad to see it escape the bottom 5 though, just like Kip Moore, at least for the sake of those who wanted to see it included!

"Only Children" was a very close runner-up for me as I almost put it in my top spot. As with most of Jason's albums it takes more than just one listen through as not every song may connect with you on that first listen. I often find myself revisiting the songs quite a few times and sometimes even have to look up the lyrics and listen along with them. This song happened to be one of those that clicked with me the first time I heard it and has become one of my favorites from Reunions.
For all of you that are fans of Jason and this song both he and Amanda performed it acoustically on CBS This Morning a couple of weeks back:
edit: Amanda Shires is also the last concert I attended before quarantine :(

Oh I wasn't expecting "When You're My Age" to be out this soon and actually thought it might be a top 5 contender. I'm a big fan of Lori's and this song is no exception. I am saddened that with everything going on her show last month here in Austin had to be cancelled as she was supposed to be performing songs from the new album, but I'm really looking forward to the release and I've enjoyed what I've heard thus far.

I included "When You're My Age" at tim's request. Unfortunately his top 5 has been OBLITERATED in this last set of reveals I do enjoy this song, but Lori McKenna continues to be a perfect example to me of why so many people end up being songwriters but not major label artists... Like yes, she can carry a tune better than 95% of the population, but I cannot help but listen to her songs and imagine how much better they would sound in the hands of somebody else
