Lainey Wilson has been one of the most consistent performers in these rankdowns. She has had a song in 3 of the 4 months we have done so far, with "WWDD" making it to #13 in April, "Rolling Stone" making it to #12 in May, and now "Sunday Best" making it to #12 in July. Hopefully she'll keep up her prolific output long enough to get a song into the top 10 of one of these things :)
"Sunday Best" is definitely not my favorite from her so far, but once again her redneck sass is on point!

Mo Pitney is our final artist to miss the top 10, which should make taylor pretty happy after a relatively rough set of reveals since this was her last place!! I love and value the neo-traditional thing that Mo has going on, but tbh this song kinda rubs me the wrong way. Mo's voice sounds very weak and nasally. Very Dwight-Yoakum-esque in my opinion, which is NOT a compliment coming from me. The song also feels like it's been done before. Like, you cannot mention "cakes on the griddle" without your song being compared to "Thank God I'm A Country Boy", which is a classic that is vastly superior to this in every way...

Karen and Kimberly are the reasons "This Town Is A Woman" worked its way into my top 10!
"Here On Earth" was dreadful to me. I've heard a few of his new songs and haven't been feeling them.

Sad Lainey Wilson couldn't make the top 10 but at least she got close! "Sunday Best" is a total jam. She does have better, but I still really love this one.
I like Mo Pitney more often and not but "Ain't Bad For A Good Ol' Boy" is a bit underwhelming to me. I like it and would listen, but I just don't love it.

I’m going to post some details in the Tim thread, but no, not power. Possibly no power until October, I had to evacuate and had a friend in Houston come get me after the roads were cleared. 👀

The most Indiana has gotten is beautiful sunsets; I wish there was something I could do to help Deridder is a disaster and nothing is working. The amount of fallen trees has electric lines down pretty much between every pole. And I’m fifteen miles further out in the country so no telling when I will be back home, we had five trees blocking our back road Thursday morning, alone. I feel guilty because I left my 52 year old mom behind in the endless heat but she didn’t want to come with me. ☹️ My aunt is coming from west Texas and bringing her a generator soon though, so she’ll be able to have a little electric then. Anyway, not surprised to be the first to lose his #1 here. 😂 No regrets though.

Overall pretty pleased with this top 10!
Glad that Brett Eldredge did worse than I expected. I saw some posters hyping up that "Sunday Drive" song so I was hoping it was actually going to be his first good song in a decade, but unfortunately no luck there. He continues to be the epitome of suck. Thankfully at least he started flopping so I don't have to deal with him all over the radio anymore.

All well and good until my #1 goes out at #15 which is the same position as last month's rankdown 15. "Sunday Drive" - Brett Eldredge
Do you even have tear glands? This is more touching than the piano ballad by other Brett that Pulse loves for no reason... Also glad that Ain't Bad For A Good Ol' Boy missed the top 10. "She's grace in holey blue jeans" is essentially lyrics in bro-country era.

We kick off the top 10 with a correct prediction from Darkest Hour ! "Let Me Go" was the first pre-release track from Cassadee's new album Rise and Shine, and tbh it has immediately become one of my favorite songs she has ever given us. Her voice has never sounded better! I especially love the resonance she pours into the note when she sings the final sustained "Let me goooooo" at the end of the 3rd chorus. To me this sounds like a huge hit in a perfect world. Overall this was a song that we seemed to be a fan of! It is our first song that literally everybody put in their top 20, making it the 3rd least polarizing song of the rankdown.

"Fool's Love Affair" was a fascinating performer in this rankdown! It started out as a big favorite for almost everyone who submitted at first....only to have a string where almost everybody put it in their bottom 5... It did not have any ambivalent ranks whatsoever until the back half, when it finally picked up some 9-13 ranks. Such a weird song to watch! Lol This song made some waves among country traditionalists in July when it suddenly got a bit of a surprise release. Randy, as most people know, had a stroke a few years back and has had to work super hard to relearn basic things like walking and talking, let alone singing. He rarely has made public appearances in recent years. So this song is not a new recording. It is a song from his early years, back when he was first getting started. An executive found the masters after all these years, and hired musicians to come in and rerecord it with Randy's original vocal. So here we are 30+ years later, getting a song that sounds like Randy at his absolute best, with a brand new fresh arrangement that sounds brand new while maintaining the neo-traditional spirit of the song!

Josh Turner is our next artist to bow out, with his cover of Keith Whitley's classic "I'm No Stranger To The Rain". This song has a super traditional sound to it, similar to "Fool's Love Affair"... gardyfan and tweety are not going to be friends, because gardy loses his #2 here on the heels of his #1, while tweety finally loses his last place on the heels of his #24... Fortunately it looks like gardy already got his revenge, whether he knew it or not ;) I looooooove Josh's voice, and this song really shows it off well. He is one of the best male vocalists we've got!! Unfortunately this one was not able to do as well as "Country State Of Mind", which finished at #6 last month. Which sucks, because this song shits aaaallllll over that one...

Up to this point, "Fool's Love Affair" is our only huge multi-#1 loss, as it wiped out four people's top songs. But coming up next, another song will wipe out 4 #1s!!!

The Chicks' new music is definitely not for everybody, but "Sleep At Night" is one of my favorites from what I have heard of the new album. The melody is fantastic. Tbh I could hear Taylor Swift having a huge hit with this! Maybe it's because the bridge reminds me a lot of the bridge of "Style", but it really feels like a song that she might sound really good on.

"Heaven Down Here" is not one of Pulse's favorite Mickey Guyton songs, but clearly we still like it quite a bit! It spent the second half of the submission process bouncing in and out of the top 5, unsure whether it was going to finish at #5 or #6. Mickey is an amazing vocalist, and I'm pretty sure we are all hoping for her to break through!
She was actually the winner of last month's rankdown, with "Black Like Me". Unfortunately, out of the 3 artists in here this month who have previously won one of these, she is the first to leave. Caylee Hammack and Ingrid Andress remain!
