Ryan said that this is the first time since 1998 that 2 different songs with the same title charted at the same time. I don't think he said which songs they were. Does anybody know, since I can't figure it out? Heartless, Diplo at #39 and The Weeknd at #17

Lonely by Diplo and the Jonas Brothers was on the chart while Lauv's Lonely (it was titled f**k, i'm lonely but AT40 said it was called Lonely) was on the verge, only to then fail to chart.

Stop. Spice girls and Meredith brooks Thanks!! I don't remember either of those. Did they make the top 40? Yep, both just kind of barely. Spice Girls peaked at #38. Meredith peaked at #36. There was one week (June 12) when they were side by side too.

Also at the end of 1998/start of 1999 Jennifer Paige and the Dave Matthews Band almost both had top 40 hits called "Crush". JP fell off AT40 right about the same time when DMB's song debuted.

Did it ever happen before 1998? i know that same tune by different artists was on the same AT40 chart before like "You've Got A Friend" on July 3, 1971....James Taylor was on his way to #1 with his at #8 when Roberta Flack and Donnie Hathaway entered with theirs in the top 40 at #38 (ended up peaking at #29) But not totally sure on different songs with same title i can remember

OK, great. Thanks again. Let me push my luck here. Did it ever happen before 1998? Yes in 1990 with “Hold On” by Wilson Phillips and En Vogue. Not sure about CT40 but I’m pretty sure “Don’t Be Cruel” by Bobby Brown and Cheap Trick did the trick.

And (in Billboard) "Crazy Love" by the Allman Brothers Band and Poco in 1979, and "Superstar" by the Carpenters and the Temptations in 1971.

thanks mkarns and johnnywest .... i'll look for dates of when it happened and post em on the next thread In addition to CHR, it also happened on the Hot AC chart with “Perfect” by Hedley and Pink. And it might have happened with “Breathe” by Michelle Branch and (I think) Melissa Etheridge. I seem to remember Casey talking about this on American Top 20.

Back in 1981 Sheena Easton changed the title in the u.s.a of 9 to 5 to Morning Train (nine to five) to avoid confusion with Dolly Parton's 9 to 5 which shared time on the charts early 1981.

Another side note on same titled songs for those of you that were listening to at40 in 1990 they did something way more annoying than playing underdog as an extra every week. When the movie Ghost came out the Righteous Brothers rerelease of unchained melody hit the top 40.Due to the fact they rerecorded the song Billboard counted the rerecording as a separate song therefore both versions of the song that sounded the same were played each week for about 3 months. Most weeks the songs chart positions were very close so they would pretty much play the same song back to back. Anyways unchained melody technically falls into songs with the same title on the chart at the same time.

A little off topic, but there were two songs named Show Me Love. One by Robin S. and one by Robyn. (Even the artists had similar names.) But not at the same time.

The week of 11/11/89, we had different hits called Love Song by The Cure and Tesla. Of course, this was in Billboard only and may no longer count toward AT40 stats.

The Cure title is considered one word Lovesong while Telsa is two words Love Song... It in the Fandom AT40 stats...also both did hit the Airplay chart therealamericantop40.fandom.com/wiki/Chartsfind November 11, 1989

Off topic but I'm tired of songs having these titles: With You, Without You, Without Me lol Still off topic, but if you think that's bad consider how many songs have been titled Let Go, Let's Go, Let It Go, Let Me Go, Let Her Go, etc.
