Next at #27, we have a song that I'm kind of surprised did not finish lower tbh. This one is also only 4 points ahead of Ellie Goulding.
Preview for #27 Points: 622 Highest Position: #27 Lowest Position: #42

It’s Carrie Underwood’s “Church Bells”. If I redid this list, I probably would’ve picked a different song from her. But “Church Bells” has been one of my favorites from her ever since it was released. I think Carrie Underwood is probably one of the strongest vocalists I’ve ever heard. She sings with such power and makes it seem effortless. She sounds so good on this song and it has such a catchy chorus. Good songwriting as well. While not my favorite Carrie song, I’d say it sits firmly in my Top 5 and it has stuck with me for the past 5 years. Unfortunately, Tay loses their #1 here! :(

A few disappointing reveals this afternoon and we're concluding today with #26, a song that did pretty well during the first half of submissions and made its way down for the second half. Only 2 points separate it and Carrie Underwood.
Preview for #26 Points: 620 Highest Position: #12 Lowest Position: #47

Damn, missed a perfect ranking with Dua.
I've always said that "Figure 8" is my favorite from Ellie but it also reminds me of a dark period in my life. "Church Bells" will just never be as good as "Dirty Laundry", I'm still mad about it :kii:

Hotter Than Hell is one of the best uses of Dua's deeper tones that I hope she uses more in the future

We're back to having a decently-sized point gap as #24 is 25 points ahead of Christina Aguilera. But it is also tied with #23 and it had a relatively stable run during submissions.

For me, this is a pretty nostalgic song because I remember hearing this song a lot when I was younger. The chorus is a banger and Kelly Clarkson sounds pretty damn great here. Coincidental how it placed right after Christina Aguilera because “Miss Independent” very much sounds like something I’d hear from 2000s Christina Aguilera. It has that cool edge in the production and a powerful chorus. Kelly Clarkson has become even more successful after this song, but to this day it’s still one of my favorites from her! Also, congrats to fearlessarrow for being the first person to have their Bottom 10 cleared!

At #23 is our tiebreaker winner, which won because of more Top 5 ranks including a #1! It has one of the highest standard deviations of the game and is the fourth song thus far to have both a #1 and a #50!

Yeah I never really liked Christina's output (except for a couple of her songs). "Miss Independent" is far from a favorite from Kelly which is a bummer cause she loves it.

This might be unpopular, but I personally prefer the Whoa, Nelly singles over the Loose singles. “I’m Like A Bird” and “Shit On The Radio” are also very enjoyable tracks, but “Turn Off The Light” has always stood out to me the most. From the really cool opening and the very vibey and chill production to the nice vocals and good lyrical content, “Turn Off The Light” just kind of checks every box for me. It’s hard for me to find any flaws here because it’s just that good and I’m glad it was a big hit for Nelly. The song was looking like it would have a Top 20 finish, so I’m a little disappointed that it fell out towards the end, mostly because of the last place rank. But it did make the top half, so that’s nice. Unfortunately though, Jordan loses his #1 here.

I've never really been huge on Christina's songs tbh, I just can't get into them fully.
Miss Independent honestly bops, especially the chorus.
Idk why I put Turn Off The Light so low, I did like a lit of songs here but still.

Az Paynter This is quite honestly in my opinion the most disappointing reveal of the RD. At #22, we have Diana Ross’ cover of the Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell hit “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”, which just this year celebrated its 50th year anniversary! Personally, I think this is the best cover of any song I’ve ever heard. I love the original version and this version is so different that it kind of takes on a whole different meaning. I love the spoken word verses and the song’s climax is honestly just gorgeous. It’s such a beautiful rendition and it was so disappointing to see it fall out of the Top 20 after spending more than half of the submission process in the Top 10, as well as one list at #1. But looking at the positives here, this is one of only two songs in this RD to have no Bottom 10 ranks, which is really nice to see!

35. alexcuse 35. BB🌕 41. Sambalada 45. Kanenrá:ke 45. samo🦕 48. taylor The last song to miss the Top 20 is Rihanna’s debut single, “Pon De Replay”, which is up there as one of my favorites from her with the dance-pop production. I think it was a very strong choice for a debut single and while her style has evolved a lot over the years, I do come back to this song quite often. It’s super catchy and is always a fun listen. This one was looking like it would have a Top 20 finish until the last couple of lists. We lose four more Top 10s and four more Bottom 10s, including the final Bottom 10 rank from samo🦕, making him the second person to clear his Bottom 10!

Coincidental how it placed right after Christina Aguilera because “Miss Independent” very much sounds like something I’d hear from 2000s Christina Aguilera. Funny you noted all that, because "Miss Independent" was actually intended for Christina and she passed on it, I believe? (Or Kelly recorded it before she could go back to it, I'm not sure.) Christina's one of MI's writers, too.
