I love the original of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and for me the cover just didn't compare, which probably dragged my rank down because of the disappointment.

At #24, we have Kelly Clarkson with “Miss Independent” from her debut album. For me, this is a pretty nostalgic song because I remember hearing this song a lot when I was younger. The chorus is a banger and Kelly Clarkson sounds pretty damn great here. Coincidental how it placed right after Christina Aguilera because “Miss Independent” very much sounds like something I’d hear from 2000s Christina Aguilera. Funny you noted all that, because "Miss Independent" was actually intended for Christina and she passed on it, I believe? (Or Kelly recorded it before she could go back to it, I'm not sure.) Christina's one of MI's writers, too. Oh, this goes further lol; Christina dropped MI because of 'Fighter'. She had two rock-tinged songs to choose between, she liked 'Fighter' better of the two, so she finished that one.

"Dirty Laundry" will just never be as good as "Church Bells" Fixed that for ya. I'm lowkey stunned CU made it as far as she did, but I wish she could've at least snuck into the top half. "Church Bells" is among THE best on Storyteller and it's one of her best singles period. A jam and a half that deserved to be the one kicking the era off; it would've smashed hard and made the era massive. I stand by my #1.

Love Adele but this has never been a top favorite, I definitely could have ranked this higher though

Glad Set Fire To The Rain is out, I've never really cared for it *that* much. It's good but she has better.
I underranked the hell out of Nothing Compares 2 U, surprised this isn't closer to the top ten tbh.
