I'm just as surprised Beach Boys got a single #1 let alone 4 of them as the #1 rankers are about the low ranks.

whew I don't know why but Beach Boys just has yet to click with me yet - "God Only Knows" was probably the best one I've heard from them so far but this list of songs being what it is, I could only put it barely above the bottom 5.

LOL, you're baffled that a song by one of the 1960s' best-selling bands, from an album which is widely considered one of the greatest albums of all-time by music publications and record collectors alike, received several high ranks? Well, thanks for showing everyone just how ignorant you are :sip2:

Well, thanks for showing everyone just how ignorant you are LOL, no ignorance here but this entire response is highly unnecessary and over-the-top, and the elitism shtick is old. I clearly was not the only one who listened to this song and thought it sucked, or I would've been alone in my low ranking here and the song would not have missed the top 10 entirely. I've never liked The Beach Boys or anything I've heard from them, and that's my personal opinion, whether it's the popular one or not. I definitely don't see them widely upheld on Pulse as one of the best to ever do it or w/e, and I'm not going to check whatever scholarly-written articles about their status in pop culture you've apparently had your nose in recently before I make my rankings. I see and acknowledge big followings for acts like Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Prince, etc. on this forum but The Beach Boys ain't a band that I certainly see mentioned with the same frequency and fan favor on here. I listened to the song, didn't like it, and legitimately would've never guessed it was a the kind of song that would accrue 4 #1 ranks here, and that's all my post was. I'm not sorry if that upsets you, but it really shouldn't have.

That user LITERALLY has a habit of taking these ranks far too seriously, and sprinting in here to object to anyone who speaks βout of termβ. The best case would be to not respond.

Alright, on one hand, this is about a song that's considered literally one of the absolute greatest songs of all time, and I mean like, top 5 tier levels of great from the entire world of music, so of course it would have multiple #1s if a lot of people feel that way about it. However, if you're going point that out, then don't be so harsh about it. And if you don't feel the same way about this, then fine, that's you. Even if people disagree, you are still entitled to your own opinions.
Speaking of hot takes...Janet is kinda overstaying on here. Like, if it was literally anything else, or hell, some other songs from Velvet Rope.

Well, thanks for showing everyone just how ignorant you are :sip2: Thereβs nothing ignorant about having an opinion about something so subjective by nature. Comments like these and the people who make them are a much different story. The ignorance is not in having a negative opinion about The Beach Boys' music. I know that some people (including friends of mine) don't and never will enjoy their music. It's in somehow managing, through many years of being a music fan, to be oblivious of how enduring and widespread praise for their recordings is. Like really, it's Pet Sounds! How are you going to be shocked about #1 rankings for a song on an album where, on several user aggregate music rating sites, the most common score given, by tens of thousands of users, is a 5/5? And it seems like every other day, I hear God Only Knows, Wouldn't It Be Nice, Sloop John B, Good Vibrations, etc. in a new commercial/TV show/movie/whatever, so their impact is clearly felt in the outside world, too. And if you're looking for fans specifically on Pulse, maybe take like a second to perform a search in the Games forum to see how many rankdowns they've been in, often performing very well? All in all, it felt like a lazy and myopic take to say "I didn't know The Beach Boys were loved".

"Vision of Love" is kind of slipping off my top favorites from Mariah, but it's still a really great song - and as a debut single it's phenomenal. I would've probably put this top 5 in some other rounds but again the list this round was really strong (at least for me).

"Together Again" top 5 wooooooo
Also I'm surprised my #1 managed to hang on - maybe it shouldn't be that surprising but I thought there were some that didn't care for the particular artist so...
But I wish "Cloudbusting" could've made top 5 :'(

Thereβs nothing ignorant about having an opinion about something so subjective by nature. The problem here is that your experience is not everybody's experience. For me, I never hear anyone talk about The Beach Boys or their music and I rarely hear them in any sort of public setting, except for occasionally in a commercial or a film here and there, but that's no different than hearing any other commercial or movie (and many songs played on those platforms are not even necessarily well-known songs by popular artists so that isn't really a litmus test for how universal something is -- Target had an ad campaign like close to probably 10 years ago now that used a Dolly Parton song that wasn't even a hit single i.e.). I could rattle off a long list of country artists who had huge careers decades ago and there'd be plenty of people on this forum who don't know that genre well enough that would have the same impression of them that I did of The Beach Boys (which is more or less "who?" and "why?"). It was 50/50 between that and me also just thinking the song kinda sucked and being personally surprised that a list with stuff like one of Mariah Carey's biggest classics on it i.e. that this song of all things was somehow the superior song for so many people. You're a helluva lot more blunt with expressing your opinions in these rankdowns than my comment was that set you off, so I really don't get it other than some form of musical elitism. You acknowledge in this very post that you're aware that there are people who you personally know that dislike them, but yet still made a flippant remark about how no one should have them in their bottom 5, which is basically the same thing as me being surprised by all the support up top so idgi /shrug
