I'm also wondering if any of you are keeping attack of Matty's ever changing hairstyles. I don't think he has ever used the same hair stylist in any two music videos.
20.
Sincerity Is ScaryThe jazzy elements were interesting. Sadly the rest of the song didn't move me.
19.
Give Yourself A TryThis is the 1975 at their best British Post Punk vibe. I would have put it my top 10 if the song had a just a tad more variety in the melody. It also kinda ends without any warning.
18.
MilkI can definitely hear why this made the top 20. very close to mine as well. That early sound is a real earworm. Not surprised
Pale Waves's style is inspired by that first 1975 album.
17.
Love It If We Made ItGot a perfect rank here. I forget this one went top 10. Kinda feels like "Somebody Else" part II. I love it when the guitars pop in the chorus. Just takes the song up a whole other notch.
16.
Heart OutI admit the first time I played this video I was like WTF is this? You know what I'm talking about. I think that horrible intro music was put in the video so we wouldn't be ready for that perfect song to follow. In a lot of ways feels like a
Atlas Genius wonderbeat meets Italo Disco. The production of the song is gorgeous if you love the big 80's booming basslines. and yes the song stays in the same melody all the way through, but what a perfect melody. This is also the highest song I ranked that I never got a chance to chart.
14.
UGH!One of the most 80's vibed songs the band ever put out. Got prince vibes from start to finish. F U N K Y!
13.
A Change Of HeartThis is such a great song. It always gives me
Cars vibes. Something you could find on a
Ric Ocasek solo album. A simple but 80's percussion with the same kind of synths
Greg Hawks would give birth to.
12.
She's AmericanI used to play this one a lot when that album first came out. I always dug that sophistipop atmosphere of the song. You can never separate The 1975 and 80's sounds too much. Always wondered why not call themselves The 1985.
11.
GirlsI would have loved if this was one of their more guitar oriented hits in this Top 10. This is one of their best music videos in every sense of the word. You can't get any more 80's than taking a bite out of
Robert Palmer's iconic
"Addicted To Love" video, but of course my favorite aspect of the song is the title. You can add this one to my list of favorite "girls' Themed songs. "Girls Just wanna Have Fun", "Hot Girls In Love", "Bad Girls", "Girls Girls Girls" My Best Friend's Girl", "Jessie's Girl" What can possible bye more enticing than a song about girls? ok maybe "
Sex" still in here right?
10.
The CityThis one is cool. I always end up liking it just a tad more everytime I hear it. It's not the melodic wonderjam I melt for, but it is a grower.
9.
RobbersThis one is good. Surprised it wasn't a hit since it feels like the masterplan of all their big hits put together.
8.
I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes) Normally a song this ballady wouldn't make it put of my bottom 10, but this one did have a rather moving melody. I feel Matty delivered this one with heartfelt emotion. The chorus really peaks up to the heavens.
7.
Me & You Together Song I kinda felt Alternative chart dropped the ball big time with this one. Maybe we all did or were just too mesmerized with
"If You're Too Shy.." to let this one reach its full potential. Even I was victim of sending it recurrent prematurely, but it s definitely one to back to and upgragde on the Alt YE rank down.
6.
ChocolateMy first 1975 song to go top 10 on my personal charts. Easily in my top 3. Really loved Matty's accent on this a one. An easy to asborb guitar melody really gets you into the atmosphere and how great was it to compare chocolate to "weed"? The whole song is about scoring some weed. Potheads united theme song.
5.
If You're Too Shy (Let Me Know) This one is already bound to become a classic among The 1975 fans. On the climb on my charts as well. It's just so epic in its Sophistipop bass line. I get
Go West vibes all the time I have this one. The "sexaphone' solo is a throwback to 80's greats like
Eddie Money. This proves what i knew all alone. Music need a serious sax and horns comeback. The video is also one of my favs since I love seeing the bands perform the song on screen.
4.
Somebody Else This wasn't gonna make my top 10. It s a great song, but maybe a tad too mellow and even a little too mature sounding for my taste. I dare say a little progressive Alt sounding too. It made my HOT list , but never really took off on my charts. Chartwise I don't think they will ever reach this level with their audience again, but I will enjoy hearing them try time and time again.
3.
The Soundand we go from their most mature sounding hit to what could be their most uptempo youthful bop sounding hit. I love this one. It will always make my top 5. has everything I crave in a pop song. Once again the guitar solo adds another layer of Poptart goodness you just can't help take a bite out of. Great song to anchor the top 3.
2.
It's Not Living (If It's Not With You)I'm not too surprised to see this one rock its way into the top 3. It makes my own top 10 because of that picture perfect sophistipop vibe. Not to harsh, but not too mellow at all either. Great guitar strumming from start to finish and topped off with some rather great lyrics everyone can relate to.
1.
SexKinda impossible for me not to include a song with the word "Sex" in the top 10 to begin with, but when the song also rocks in a proper Indierock vibe it pretty much gets that free pass. Love the lyrics I can relate to. Love the music video ,and Matty delivers a good rock vocal from start to finish. Would love another one like this in the future. Everyone gave it top 10 except out host. What's up with that?
i actually would have been happy with the #1 song being any of my top 10's, and since this one has a great rock groove I'd say my work is done.
@greento
Great way to start a rankdown history and great band to commence with. Not entirely sure which direction you rock to, but other bands I would to suggest would be Neon Trees, Killers, Phoenix or Saint Motel. You could even entice me lots with female bands like Echosmith and MisterWives.
