Right move. Just shocked at just how quickly they abandoned "The Other Girl". Not complaining since this song is both more radio friendly and I prefer it greatly. Hopefully this does well enough to let "Half Of My Hometown" be the smash it deserves to be.

Good riddance. The Other Girl was an awful single choice. I wonder what led them to decide to pull it this fast. Maybe the reactions they were getting from listeners/stations were absurd. It can stay a Pop/HAC single though.
This, on the other hand, is a fantastic single choice. I can see it doing very well. However, after homecoming queen's underperformance and The Other Girl straight-up failing, I think this will need some time to get going.

Maybe the lackluster amount of adds since its release might have been a big factor? "The Other Girl" is still listed as going for adds next week on both Pop and HAC as of right now, so we'll have a split single situation here. I agree that moving on from "The Other Girl" on country is the right choice though, it didn't seem like the signs were pointing in the positive direction and I think this one is a perfect choice! Still wish they would've just done this from the start though.

Wait what happened to "The Other Girl" exactly? Was it released to country radio and then dropped?

Wait what happened to "The Other Girl" exactly? Was it released to country radio and then dropped? Yeah it was released to country radio about 2 months ago, and when it went for adds the add date was very underwhelming and the following weeks when this song went for adds it never stood out, and now it seems like the label is moving onto this given how underwhelming the early response "The Other Girl" was.

Wait what happened to "The Other Girl" exactly? Was it released to country radio and then dropped? Yes. It received a disappointing number of adds for its impact week, but there was a potential excuse in that singles from Luke Bryan, Brad Paisley and Brett Eldredge all launched the same week. But when a few more weeks when it by and it still wasn't making much progress in terms of adds, let alone airplay, it became clear that it wasn't going to happen. Country radio just wasn't into it. So they could keep promoting it with the likely best-case scenario of it peaking in the Top 30 6-9 months from now, all while hurting their ability to launch future singles (and potential hits) from the "kelsea" album. Or they could cut their losses, dismiss this as a "nevermind," and try something else

I do like the song but definitely is more pop than country, Will be interesting to see if pop radio picks it up? Could still be a big hit
Was "Club" ever released to radio? Or was that just like a promotional single for the album?

Wow, I'm kinda surprised to see this happen so soon, especially since it seemed like "The Other Girl" had actually been moving up the charts (albeit not with impressive gains or anything) since its release, despite the lackluster adds date. This is probably the smart long-term move though, and it'll allow it to get attention on the other radio formats while she can establish a safer hit on her home format with "Hole in the Bottle," which always 100% sounded like a smash since I first heard it. I expect this one to right the wrongs for her here and do quite well at country radio. This song is a total jam. Was "Club" ever released to radio? Or was that just like a promotional single for the album? "Club" was just a promotional single. No radio release.

A better choice than the other girl but I wish she was releasing Half of my Home Town

Wonder if there'll be a "radio edit" version that trims down the intro..

This was a no-brainer and, although I love TOG, I’m ecstatic that HITB will now have its time to shine. Not mad at the split release approach either; if TOG ends up having even a third of the success of something like The Bones, I’d say it’s worth it. More audience exposure never hurts!

I don't trust radio with a country single from Kelsea, but I'm happy to see it released nonetheless.

Am I the only one kinda bitter they pulled TOG? I mean if it gained traction on HAC and Pop, I believe it would move faster on Country too. The Bones and Meant to be did so, too, I think

The Bones and Meant to be did so, too, I think TOG is a good song but it never should’ve been released to country radio. The fact that they needed to make a mix that had more country elements on it so it’d be played says it all.

This was one of the highlights on the album, so I'm glad they decided to pull The Other Girl since it wasn't doing anything.

It was obvious that “the other girl” was doing nothing and PDs couldn’t get on-board with it. This is radio-friendly in that it’s uptempo and the perfect length for airplay. I think this will be the single that puts the kelsea era back on track.
It’s both smart and beneficial to harness Halsey’s name recognition by sending “the other girl” to pop/HAC. Being that its streaming numbers are quite impressive, hopefully that’ll translate to strong airplay.

This was a great decision. It was extremely obvious the streams for TOG were because Halsey was involved and her fans were curious rather than because it was a smash. I can see it moving the needle a little on pop but it was never going to do anything at country. This, on the other hand, is a hit. Hopefully it becomes one!

Guess this is a great decision for country radio, but it's still one of my least favorites from the album.

I love this one and I think it is my all-time favorite Kelsea song. It shows off the funny personality that she has on social media and that I feel like she has in person. I think this will send her right back to the top.

Can’t help but feel she needs a better management team to oversee her career. It’s been so up and down so far. This one is okay I guess, a wall of noise that’s radio friendly, but not sure I hear the guaranteed smash that others are hearing. This reminds me of the “Better In Boots” / “Withdrawals” situation that Tyler Farr went through years ago. Hopefully things shake out better for Kelsea though, since I do feel she has talent.

I just see more sexist radio BS going on here, i mean if Dan + Shay with Bieber can do it, if Sam Hunt can do it, if FGL & Bebe Rexha can do it....heck, Miss Me More was just as pop sounding and went #1. And i could make a list a mile long at this point. So what's the difference here?
That being said, i'm glad they switched it and went with this as this is a much better single choice imo. She better hope this hits though or she might possibly never recover from whats happening this era.

I’m not saying they aren’t, I’m just thinking it had more to do with “The Other Girl” just not being a very good song that radio wanted to play.

This reminds me of the “Better In Boots” / “Withdrawals” situation that Tyler Farr went through years ago. Hopefully things shake out better for Kelsea though, since I do feel she has talent. The First Time was her best album era, hands-down. Unapologetically would have been a non-event had “Miss Me More” not closed the album cycle. kelsea is finding its footing, albeit very shakily. If “Hole in the Bottle” doesn’t perform well at radio, being that it’s arguably the best single choice for country radio, then I don’t see her matching the same commercial heights she reached with her debut. I love Kelsea and the eponymous album, but it’s hard to ignore that her career has been hills and valleys rather than a steady incline like the female artists that rose to prominence around the same time (Kacey Musgraves, Maren Morris, and perhaps even Carly Pearce, who has really been improving with airplay). If this third album cycle can’t cement her as a hit maker, then she may be relegated to a niche within mainstream country music with the occasional well-performing single rather than hit after hit. However, that’s not inherently bad, either. Musgraves has proven that positive radio reception is not an indicating factor to overall success. Kelsea has a strong fan base and is now an Opry member; she has, indeed, ‘made it.’ Black River has also given her ample room to explore her artistry through various sonic and thematic elements outside the realm of country music, diversifying her catalog. Radio success is still in the cards, but with a platform to create music and be heard, she may not be pressing on that too hard.

I'm glad they read the writing on the wall and abandoned ship with "the other girl," especially so quickly. I quite like "hole in the bottle" and can't wait for it to be on the radio. I hope it sticks and I hope "the other girl" does as much as it can over on pop radio.

This is one of my favourites, so I am glad this is the new single! Here's to hoping it goes #1,and puts this era back on track!
