I never got the hate for tell me something good. It's better than fucking interviews and it's just more positivity in an otherwise rather bland show nowadays. And that would really be useful right now, especially in this pandemic. Sure it's not music related but at least it was positive, rather than interviews, which if not music related, are very boring.

I with you on the interviews dreadful I seriously block them out.i don't mind if they are music related interviews but people pushing new movies and tv shows are lame.Funny that was brought up cause that would have been #6 on my most annoying countdown. But what I will say is you can make the same argument for underdog being played now positive and uplifting.

I was remembering in 1991 during the gulf war crises Show me the Way by Styx became the positive anthem song being played. In fact: they inserted comments from soldiers and others and called it the "desert shield mix" and that version would play on at40.

That's probably the most regularly griped about topic on the AT40 threads since the "Dynamite is STILL on??" complaints of 2011. (The Taio Cruz hit lasted for 72 weeks on the countdown, more than any song ever to date.) Did we forget about the "Tell Me something good" abomination ? In addition the counter complaint of why not bring back the Two for one . It seems like months of bickering until they finally canned t. m .s .g . I have been listening to at40 since the late 70's here is my "top 5 most annoying things on at40 top 5 countdown". 5.underdog 4.playing Unchained melody twice a week for two months the 45 version and the cassette version as two different songs. 3.Year end countdown show-going from top 100 to top 40 and replaying it the next week as well as the fact that the year end chart is meaningless as it is mostly comprised of songs from the previous years. 2.No recurrent rule meaning songs are played for 30-70+ weeks 1.Tell Me Something Good Keep your hands in the air and keep reaching for the stars. A few other things that annoyed me, going back a ways: --Long Distance Dedications, though I'm in the minority on this. Especially in later years when the CHR and AC shows usually used the same letters, which meant the same songs were chosen over and over. --In the 1970s, before the show extended to four hours, including several extras in the show which meant that countdown songs had to be butchered at a time when it was getting hard to just get the top 40 in a three hour show. I'd also say that today there are too many extras which make the show feel padded (especially when the same songs are over-replayed), but at least they can be justified as needed to fill time. --As others have said, many of the interviews, at least with people who have nothing to do with music or the current chart. More extras do have the benefit of making these less necessary. --Weird chart moves, such as previous big hits staying at #40 or 39 for weeks before leaving, or songs being yanked right off the countdown from higher positions (usually in the top 20) when Mediabase still has them in the top 30 or 40. Why not just use the official Mediabase chart? In the 1970s/80s/90s there were a lot of dubious chart moves (manipulations?) as well, but I don't blame AT40/CT40 for that as they were just relaying what Billboard or Radio & Records gave them to work with.

Ryan said that Dua Lipa hits the top 10 for the 3rd time, that's wrong its actually her fourth time: New Rules, One Kiss, Don't Start Now, and now Break my Heart

That's new! Edit: and even then that wouldn't be correct bc BMH isn't even top 10 on HAC yet

Technically he's right if you count lead billing, since "One Kiss" was billed as "Calvin Harris featuring Dua Lipa". Kind of a dumb technicality, though; since DL sang that whole song herself it should be counted for her as it would be in a list of Calvin's hits.

Another annoying thing about AT40, Ryan and his staff needs to check their records and facts before they announce on the show

Long distance dedications are similar to a night of watching karaoke with dedications every week you knew you would hear at least one of these: he ain't heavy he's my brother, cats in the cradle , you've got a friend, I will remember you or one sweet day. In karaoke try spending a night out without hearing : Hit me with your best shot, love shack , friends in low placed or I will survive. I personally did not lose sleep when at40 stopped playing them either.

Another annoying thing about AT40, Ryan and his staff needs to check their records and facts before they announce on the show It's basically the same dialogue from both CHR/HOT AC at the beginning of the show, (besides the recap of the top 3 from the previous week). Is it really that hard to record 2 different beginnings to what is going on on what chart version they are recording? They need to fix that.

Looking ahead to next week I see 6 possible debuts but really on 4 droppers in order of likelihood of debuting.
1.if the world was ending 2.rain on me 3.x 4.watermelon sugar (will it not be a break out first?) 5.young and alive (make or break week) 6. blueberry faygo (at40 seems to not rush harder rap songs into the 40 rightfully should be in)
droppers possible 1.trampoline 2.nice to meet ya 3.July 4.worry about me (could be a rare one and done)

finds out in the year 9000000000000000000000, AT40 is still playing "Underdog" by Alicia Keys as an extra
Me: where are the random triggered posts of people complaining nonstop of "Underdog" being an AT40 extra? That's probably the most regularly griped about topic on the AT40 threads since the "Dynamite is STILL on??" complaints of 2011. (The Taio Cruz hit lasted for 72 weeks on the countdown, more than any song ever to date.) In addition to that, in the last couple years many folks have complained about “too many extras” or “too many breakouts.” In fact it was reported here that someone on this board had to get psychiatric help because of that. Still, this isn’t something that’s just affecting AT40 but nearly every contemporary countdown show out there, because many singles releases these days are clocking in under three minutes.

I- This weeks at40 if you buy on iTunes clocks in at two hours and eleven minutes which is actually better than a few months ago when it was barely two hours. 12 songs clock in under three minutes with Baby Girl @2.25 taking over first place from July@2.32.Unless you go to a three hour format which would include cutting out most extras and possibly editing songs to make them shorter the best option is listening on I heart radio which usually plays it in three hours and fifteen minutes or less.

Another annoying thing about AT40, Ryan and his staff needs to check their records and facts before they announce on the show glad awesomecharts gave us the fandom site of all AT40 charts (Casey's, Shadoe's and Ryan's) for all the facts... and again thanks to all for the facts on things... it helped on info like Camila's chart appearances (both lead and featured), the similar title songs (like the current "Heartless") ... i used it for facts on Bryce Vine (his collab with Loud Luxury never hit AT40) to make "Baby Girl" his 3rd AT40 appearance

How is At40 2 weeks behind mediabase when at40 plays Tootsie Slide and Rain on Me as a breakout the same week they debut the same week in the mediabase top 40 I ask myself the same question but it seems like at40 has a few core artists that when they release a song it gets played right away like Justin Bieber. Yummy barely was released and it made it to at40 that week and meanwhile other songs are close to the mediabase top 10 and have been out for weeks before they chart . Remember unlike the old days when at40 was based solely on published charts it was what it was. I believe now the chart they use now is unpublished and i'm sure it is based on playing songs and artists that they feel their target audience want to hear. P.s to address a different post the "all of me" played on iheart radio Friday was the dance version and it was rather catchy.
