My problem with Garth pulling out of the category is that the winner now will most likely feel like they don't deserve it. Hopefully that's not the case. I feel like most of the artists who’ve been in contention since Garth returned to the category in 2015 know it’s exactly the opposite. Garth knows this too, otherwise he wouldn’t do something like this. Everyone who isn’t a Garth fan has made their voices heard these past few years, especially Eric’s and Carrie’s fans, and he has definitely heard them. ETA: He only did this because he’s so obsessed with his image and how he’s perceived that as soon as he saw some legitimate and totally justified pushback for a win he seemingly pulled out of his ass, he conceded simply to look like the “nice guy” who’s nobly moving over for a new generation; when really he’s just so up his own ass he’d win ten more times happily if it didn’t continually make him seem more and more like pompous narcissist. I grew up on his music and I love his discography, I have seen him live and he is my grandmother’s all time favorite. I love Garth the entertainer, but as a person he’s proven publicly to be incredibly full of himself (which hey - he’s got a reason to be that way, I get it). With that said, this move wreaks of typical Garth...

This entire situation is infinitely uncomfortable. I wish GB would realize that the issue is not so much that he gets nominated, but that his campaigning/the consistent dullness of the CMA voting body continues to reward him with the trophy in years that simply don't call for it...all because of his career & legend. It's so easy for everyone to say, "Well, it's Garth," but...that's not an excuse to reward him for an annual trophy, especially for the in-question calendar years where his work didn't measure up to his competitors'.
This all just feels so icky and arrogant, and it puts CU in an even weirder and more uncomfortable position. And to now say, "Maybe her year was just one year later?" That's even more annoying, because everyone (incl. CU & her fans) know that she doesn't deserve that trophy this year, and I'm not willing to support a "Here's your long overdue EOTY!!!" thrown at her when I've always had trouble accepting that for any artist anyways, A, and B, just because GB has put that out into the universe. Also, suggesting that would detract from the chances of other artists this year (namely, Maren Morris and Miranda Lambert) who deserve the 2020 EOTY over CU.
Fuck all of this. It's weird. Hate it.

I am so grossed out by the people continuing to shower praise and love on Garth today in particular following this whole sh*t show. A guy named Steve Wariner posted a message on twitter praising Garth to the high heavens, and then Blake Shelton retweeted it loading the praise on for Garth even more. There are even CMA voters saying they will still vote for Garth. In his press conference, he still seems to be stuck on the whole female aspect from last year, not because Carrie genuinely deserved to win regardless of gender. Now that Garth has victimized himself essentially, I kind of feel like this is weirdly hurting Carrie in a way that’s hard to describe.

I didn’t even see that from Trisha ewwwww...and there’s pretty much nothing Carrie can do to get out of this uncomfortable situation so I guess being silent and in her own bubble away from this mess is best. I want Carrie to do one of those documentaries when she’s an old lady and spill all of her thoughts on this at some point. I’m sure she has heard about this by now.

This is going to get messy real quick. Honestly I don’t think so. It’ll fizzle out in a couple of days probably. But this is a shitty spot to be in for Carrie, she’ll most likely lay low - which in this case is all there is to do. There is nothing to actually address for Carrie yet her name is smack in the middle of a controversy due to a way-too-detailed “press conference” in which Garth is merely asking voters not to vote for him, but he could very well still be nominated because the CMA (apparently) flat out said they will not manipulate the results... that would be interesting. This will blow over, and while I want Carrie to be nominated; she really isn’t country’s EOTY this year so it just wouldn’t feel perfect, as it should always feel. A win for Carrie would be tarnished with this drama as well as “sympathy vote” bullshit and it just wouldn’t be right. Carrie deserves to win in a year when she truly is the winner (like 2019), and she deserves a crowd-filled moment of cheers before accepting; inevitably emotional but completely genuine and deserving. I hold out hope her moment is still to come, and I’m glad the fans aren’t backing down, but unless they’re combining 2019 and 2020 in the criteria for pandemic related reasons, Carrie just wouldn’t be the right winner and she’d be robbed of a complete moment which she truly deserves.

My problem with Garth pulling out of the category is that the winner now will most likely feel like they don't deserve it. Hopefully that's not the case. Nah. This happens a lot; Oprah and Candice Bergen each stopped submitting themselves for Emmys after many wins, and it didn't affect how winners were perceived. My issue is more Garth making a thing of it. Why say anything? He could have just not submitted his name and kept it quiet. Or if he was going to make it public, he could have made more of a statement about the CMAs overlooking deserving people.

Garth winning an infinite amount of awards isn't the issue.
The issue is continued nominations mostly based on legacy, flattery, and sometimes stadium shows. Yes, being big enough to fill a stadium (and for multiple nights in the same city!) is HUGE. Garth's 2016 and 2017 nomination and his 2017 win were definitely well-deserved. Those were longer tours with much more hype. His 2019 tour was much smaller (number of dates) and way less publicized (from my opinion).
I also wonder if there was, in fact, a Carrie-Eric split for entertainer where voters were split on Carrie's consistency in the genre, CPTour production value, and general public notability vs. Eric's dynamic show format, show stamina, and groundswell within 'core-country' communities. This would allow for a viable 3rd option in Garth.
I actually wanted to take Garth at his words and actions and give him the benefit of the doubt on how altruistic his motives were in removing his nomination status. However, Trisha chiming in on Twitter shows it was a move made with an eye-roll, bowing down to the opinions of social media rather than doing something noble and opening up a fair playing field to artists in their prime.

Blake could totally be a “dark horse” for EOTY - in many ways he’s actually had the biggest 2020 in country music, having “The Voice” and two massive hits back-to-back. He absolutely deserves at least a nomination. My EOTY prediction: Eric Church Luke Combs Miranda Lambert Blake Shelton Carrie Underwood or Keith Urban. I’ll always root for Carrie, and controversy aside, I’ll never pass on a chance to see her win EOTY. She could very well end up with a nomination, if for nothing else but because of the aftermath of 11/13, which apparently held a lot more weight than any of us thought until yesterday. In any case, there’s no denying - based on the second round results, that there’s pretty strong support for Carrie; five categories in an “off” year at the second round is pretty impressive. However, the competition is tight and Carrie isn’t the only one “overdue” at the CMAs... So I wouldn’t be shocked with or without a nomination this year. I do think Miranda deserves a spot, so assuming only one female (if any) makes it, it should be Miranda. However, we all know if two make it - it’s Carrie and Miranda and I honestly think that’s a realistic outcome this year considering they’re both making headlines at the right time. Also, women do seem to be slowly winning the fight for equality and what better way is there to show progress than to nominate your two biggest solo females since Shania Twain? Just saying, I could see both getting nominated and I’m definitely here for that, although that would almost definitely mean neither would win.... So, yeah... However it turns out, I kinda feel like this show is going to be more or less an extension of 2019 since 2020 was hardly a “year” in terms of music and entertainment. So I really don’t think anyone can predict how this goes, this too is uncharted territory. ETA: “My thought is, if we go for some long period of time and Carrie Underwood never wins a CMA Entertainer of the Year, that's quite disturbing for me, because she's definitely ... she's done everything you can do to win, in my opinion”. - Luke Bryan after being asked about Garth’s stunt (from: Taste of Country).

I'm not sure if this has really been clearly stated anywhere, but because of the way the voting is, I don't think anyone is able to technically pull themselves out like Garth is making himself seem. Therefore, it isn't a lock that he won't move on in the voting and make it to the end...so many people are making it seem like he is completely done now with EOTY when that is not the case, and he is still in competition with Carrie and everyone else as of now.
I've been thinking about this a lot, and although this is a very different year for the awards for numerous different reasons, if this is Carrie's possible chance to win, I want her to win regardless. In even 10 years down the road, overall I don't think people will remember the specifics of the award show, just like how the mass general public doesn't remember the specifics of the CMAs from ten years in the past. At the end of her career, I would rather have her be a CMA EOTY in this crazy year than not win ever at all, since getting nominations (or a win) for the rest of an artist's career isn't really realistic for anyone. I am sure she will be nominated in the future if she keeps doing what she does, but no one has infinite chances to win.

CARRIE FT. JOHN LEGEND?!?!?!!? PRAISE THE GOOD LORD!!!!
I'm so excited as well to hear Isaiah sing; Carrie has said he's the one who's really into music. I hope the arrangement of "O Holy Night" is similar to Céline's and I can't wait to hear that song on her 2020 voice.
"Silent Night" as the ending is perfect and an a cappella moment would be heavenly.

She’s going to vocally slay Silent Night too...this just made me more excited! I think this has a great mix of songs that will appeal to a vide variety of listeners.

Tears of Gold seemed so legit but I’m super content with this so I’m not complaining one bit. John Legend is way more known in the US anyways. This is a true track list, right? Lol no one on twitter seems to know about this yet.

Kinda surprised she’s not including her previously recorded stuff, or at least new versions. The album is a bit short... but that’s common with Christmas albums, I know.

Well she did previously do "O Holy Night," which is on this album, and this version is longer than the first one, so we have a new version of that one at least! I didn't think many of those first five songs from 2008 (of course now excluding OHN) would be redone since she'd already done them before. It would've been nice to have them though, at least as bonus tracks, that way they'd be all on one Christmas CD, but of course she was at Sony and they'd already been bonus tracks on the reissue of Carnival Ride, so there would've been an obstacle there.
