Revisiting Storyteller for the first time in a while and it still slaps.
I think Carrie is becoming more aware of what constitutes filler as her career progresses. Storyteller and Cry Pretty have been solid albums throughout for me. However I still think “Church Bells” as the lead would have lead into a totally hyped up era.
Anyone think there is any chance at all of us still getting the Cry Pretty Tour on dvd, stream, etc?

I know I’m the small minority but Play On is my favorite. It’s perfect from start to finish! I’ll join you, Play On is my favourite Carrie album as well - minus Undo It & This Time. Some of her careers best work is on this album, and the era had so much potential to be massive with songs like Quitter, Unapologize, Someday When I Stop Loving You, What Can I Say... Hell I’m still planning on getting lyrics from Play On the track tattoo’d some day. The album as a whole is just so light hearted and fun to me, and when it came out I remember being mesmerized by each song (minus Undo It & This Time). It’s an underrated gem, and did not deserve the lashings it go from critics.

I mean, I can KINDA understand people loving Blown Away, because, like I said, when it dropped, I stanned. I haven't really wanted to go back to it at all though. But, PLAY YAWN??? Nah. I keep Quitter and Undo It and forget the rest. I don't even like Cowboy Casanova anymore. To be honest though, I used to really love Carrie's bombastic lead singles but the only one of that ilk that has stuck with me are Smoke Break and Cry Pretty. Anyway, I realize that some of y'all don't know me or know I am a Carrie fan. My top 10 Carrie songs are:
1. Low 2. Cry Pretty 3. Drinking Alone 4. Just A Dream 5. Smoke Break 6. Something In The Water 7. Jesus, Take The Wheel 8. Wasted 9. Before He Cheats 10. One Way Ticket Honorable Mention 11. That Song That We Used To Make Love To (the one I useth to keep playing on repeeeee-heee-at) 12. See You Again

Apparently I'm in the minority. I wish I liked Storyteller more. 90% of it just sounds the same to me tbh.
Some Hearts is (and probably always will be) my favorite Carrie album for nostalgia reasons, but I think Cry Pretty is a close contender for her "best" album.

I'd also include Some Hearts but I'm unsure if it was considered a single or not.

I want an entire album influenced by “Chaser.” I played “Storyteller” through for the first time in a long time yesterday and it STOOD OUT on a great album. Has aged really well 👌🏽 How she sings those first few lines of the last chorus is everything.

Assuming “Hallelujah” gets the single treatment, do we think there will be a video?

I was going to say my top 10 favorite songs in general (including singles), but then I couldn't narrow it down from 16-17, lol.

Assuming “Hallelujah” gets the single treatment, do we think there will be a video? I’d be willing to bet yes on this. I think a video is a guarantee and unless they push LTBP, I think this one gets the video treatment. Also, all this favorite song talk had me listening to Some Hearts while running errands... damn, what an album! Those songs would sound amazing on radio still today, all of them. I was kinda hoping they’d do some sort of re-release to celebrate 15 years, but maybe that comes at 20 years?

All this reflective talk has me wondering where she will go from here - Album 7. Can Jay Joyce team up with her team behind My Gift to give us something sonically unique? As My Gift sinks in, I am so impressed with the live feel and sparseness of the production. Her vocals are 100% carrying the songs. I would love to see that reflected more in her studio albums.
I would love for Carrie to make a 90s country inspired original album. I think she’d kill it and it would still seem current and be successful. It’s a joy hearing her cover a bunch of different sounds on an album, but I really liked the sonic-cohesiveness of Storyteller, and I think shaping an album after a particular era in country music would be fun for her.
Regardless of what comes next, I love that I’m just as intrigued and excited by Carrie’s music and career as I was in 2005. She’s an anomaly.

I would like an album full of the 1-2-3 punch of CP, GOTS, and Low. Pretty please, O Heavenly Lord. That's my dream CU8 (I say her eighth album because despite MG being a Christmas record...it is still technically CU7). Also...Jay Joyce & Greg Wells? That's heaven.

I've never been a die hard Carrie Fan, but I've always thought she had a tremendous voice. And I know her songs have meant a great deal to millions of people, so it's just something about my own music or lyrical taste that has kept me from really enjoying her music the way others do. All that being said, I have always wished that she and Taylor would have been not seen as rivals in the industry,(or if they have private unfriendliness, i wish they would resolve it) because there are several Taylor songs I would have loved to see her cover; such as State of Grace and Haunted and even the Taylor fan favorites All Too Well and Enchanted. I'd love to hear what those sound with her voice. And with the talk of what her new album would be, Id give anything if it would have a couple Taylor original songs written by Taylor just for Carrie to sing, or even a couple Carrie/Taylor co-written songs. Is that just me, or would anyone else like that? If she covered any Taylor songs, which would any of you choose?

I personally would not be interested in Carrie covering Taylor's songs because I want Carrie to sing songs that showcase her voice, and I don't think Taylor's songs would do that. I also have never found Taylor to be country, and I'm very happy that she left country music given that Taylor's intent all along was to use country music as a stepping stone to move on to pop, so I'm pleased with the way things are.

I think Carrie has the ability to sing just about any type of music that she wants to, better than pretty much anyone else. I think she could do an amazimg job with many of Taylor's songs. For instance, I never would have thought "I Told You So" would sound so much like it was written for her till she sang it. I'd love to hear her cover several of Taylor's songs, myself. But its fine that others dont feel the same.

I'd enjoy hearing her sing some of Taylor's music as well. Taylor is a fantastic songwriter, and I think that her lyrics and Carrie's vocals would be a match made in heaven. I'd even love for Taylor to write for Carrie. Carrie could offer her own unique interpretation and vocal arrangement on the songs. That's the mark of a truly creative artist, anyway. I hate when singers cover songs and their version is just an unimaginative blow-by-blow regurgitation of the original recording.
