turns out I mixed up Good Life with Good Like That, and actually had my 2 left rather than my 13 lmao 5 vs 9, rooting for Tightrope to win but both of these are good songs

Slo(w) Motion Notes:
Some editions of BL omitted the "w" at the end of the first word of the title, hence the alternate spellings.
So... this song...
This song moved me in a way that no Kylie song ever had before, though it is a relatively more recent discovery for me. Someone on this board recommended "Slow Motion" in the mid-2010s and I realized I had never heard it before. I had collected a bunch of her singles on import, along with the Japanese Hyper Edition of Fever, to hear a bunch of non-album tracks and B-sides, as YouTube was only a toddler at the time and didn't have all the music it does now. So, being a huge Kylie stan, I decided to seek out Slo Motion to see what it was like, expecting something on par with other Kylie B-sides, where many are solid but also clear in one way or another as to why they were cut from the parent album.
But this song, it had me hypnotized before the first verse even begins. The sparse production, unexpected starts and stops, lush strings & synths, soaring background vocal - I was in awe! I love so much of Kylie's work but this track was something else. Every time I hear it, it still shimmers as beautifully as it did that first time. This is truly the crown jewel in her discography for me and as much as I adore "City Games," this blows everything else out of the water. The only tracks which come to mind as similarly innovative from Kylie - album track, single, or B-side - are "Confide In Me" and "Sparks" from the Kiss Me Once era.
This is why I was heartbroken when "Tightrope" overtook this song for the win at the eleventh hour. It still made it to #2 rather than being lost lower down with other songs, but I was hoping it would take the crown for the beautiful number it is.

Wow. City Games is one of her best songs. 1. TightropePoints: 76 Std. Dev.: 5.14 B-Side Location: "In Your Eyes" UK/EU CD1The Fever-ites won this round. While this song is in my top 5, "Slo Motion" is one of my all time favorite Kylie songs, so it was painful for me to see it in the lead for so long only to slip into second place with the last few lists. Oddly, only two people ranked this #1, but overall it got high enough rankings to buoy it above the competition. Side B1 Janhova's Witness1 Illusions2 God2 Az Paynter2 Juanca Yaaaasssss 😍😍😍🎉🎉

Wow, I did not realize my ignorance until I listened to both Slo Motion and Tightrope last night. I’m actually leaning more toward Slo Motion, but both are such incredible songs, I can’t believe they are not on the albums!!

Well, I neva! I stand by my top 3. :) bat- perhaps if I spent more time with the tracks for the rankdown, it may have changed some positions slightly- for instance, "City Games."

Oh no! This album only has one misstep (and that's still fairly harmless IMO). So seeing all of these tracks I love go stinks because they're all kinda my favs.
"YMMF" is a slinky R&B bop. And I love the lyrics to "Someday." That "I want my records back, to get my heart on track" line kills. And kind of boils down the entire theme of the album for me, with all of it's musical/lyrical references to songs past.

As it probably won't continue, I just want to say two-for-two is good enough for me 😂.

The only song I outright don’t like in this album is my lowest rank. I don’t think she has ever matched this album as a whole, especially in consistency.

Yeah, IFFY is the one misstep on the album. Something about it has always been off for me. I would have preferred any of the B-sides over it.

Last one for today!11. Cruise Control The most "2004-esque" song from the album. This was originally considered as the lead single in North America with a Sean Paul feature, making it even more peak-2004. However, Capitol Records couldn't figure out how to proceed marketing Kylie and this album stateside and absolutely bungled the rollout, squandering the gains she had made with Fever. (Who in their right mind thought "Slow" would do well in the United States in 2004? Iconic as that song is, that is NOT what radio was playing at the time. This or "Red Blooded Woman" fit in better and there was already a video ready to go for RBW because of four months of delay between the international and US release dates.) Here is the version with Sean Paul. The album as a whole is lush and layered. This song sounds extremely tinny in comparison and stands out in a negative way.

CC has always felt like the "we need a SINGLE" track on the album but, considering how ass-backwards this entire era was, I'm glad Slow prevailed as the lead.

I love "I Feel For You"! Underrated jam, IMHO. I love all the tracks on the album, actually.

10. Rendezvous at Sunset (7): this was just very catchy to me, and the chorus, starting with the wo-oh-ooh got stuck in my head. The production may lean a bit toward generic territory, but I think it had enough of Kylie to make it non generic while I don’t think she has many songs in this style. 9. Baby (8): another catchy tune, but much closer to the disco inspired pop tunes in Fever. Nice melody throughout the song. 8. Almost a Lover (19): huh? how is this top 10 material in this list? Starting with that annoying blip song, followed by the boring beat, and non catchy chorus hook, this was my clear bottom song of the list. I’ve just listened to it again and yup, one of my least favorite discoveries from the past 5 Kylie Rankdowns. 7. Boy (15): good to see another bottom half gone :) I admit that the production is pretty good, but that chorus melody is quite anticlimactic and boring, and as inmemorable as the verse... the best part of the song to me is the pre-chorus, followed by the bridge, but they’re not enough to make me want to listen to the song again 6. Made of glass (5): great discovery! I really like the late 90s modern rock vibe / production. The more I heard it the more I got hooked. The second part of the chorus and the layering with the first part work very well to me. Why was Giving you up a single instead of this one?!! This is miles better 5. Whatever You Feel Like It (1): it was a close battle with my #2, but in the end I gave in to this tune. I’ve just discovered it thanks to the Fever RD, and it was love at first listen. The melody is super catchy (still stuck in my head), the 4. City games (6): another great discovery! I love the crisp, elegant production and bit of Ace of base-like sound that stands out in her discography. I also like its catchy prechorus and chorus. Happy to see it this high. 3. Good Like That (9): this was another disco-influenced catchy tune, but I found it a bit less interesting and safer than my top 8. Still an overall good discovery. 2. Slow motion (14): mmmm, I guess I’m in the minority; I do appreciate the lush production in the second half of the song when the strings come along, as well as her sexy vocals. However I didn’t find the melody memorable, and got more into boring territory for me. I also don’t like the distorted “eh-eh” effects. And overall this type of early 90s ballads have never been my cup of tea, and used to be a quick station changer in AC stations. I can totally see how people who are more into this style would rank this and Almost a lover high. 1. Tightrope (2): I liked this quite a bit back in the day, and it’s remained in my MP3 player / iPhone ever since. I like the more adventurous production and the overall melody. It also has some good memories attached. A deserving winner!
