Super late Body language comments
14. You Make Me Feel (10): I liked the retro feel of this song, with the scratched vinyl and wind chime sounds, the claps and synths, the bass at the end of the sound, and the overall sexy vibe. It was sonically very interesting and had a nice enough melody to escape my bottom 4.
13. Someday (14): one of her most boring album tracks to me
not a bad song, like sheโs had in other albums, itโs just not memorable to me and something Iโd skip within the first minute.
12. I Feel For You (12): this just sounded like album filler to me -what kind of chorus is that?- even though the instrumental is interesting
11. Cruise control (4): This sounded like something that couldโve been a mid hit at the time. It was a pretty good discovery for this RD. One of the strongest melodies in the album, with nice vocals (especially the background vocals in the chorus), slick production with cool instruments and vibe (love the Indian influence mixed with the epic drums in the bridge). I didnโt know there was a mix ready to go โit shouldโve definitely gone!!
10. After dark (13): not a fan of the melody at all, to the point of not caring to hear it again. I appreciate her sexiness, but she did it miles better with slow and chocolate.
9. Obsession (8): I like the more straight-up late 90s / early pop&b 00s vibe (TLC, pink, mya), with a very catchy chorus, and a nice production too, although the chorus repeated a couple too many times -it needed a prechorus or stronger bridge.
8. Sweet music (9): another solid production -this time more 70s disco- with better melody than my bottom 4, but still not that strong to be super memorable to me -already forgot about it
7. Still standing (11): so one of my main issues with this album is that the melodies are not that strong unfortunately. This song has a great production and vibe, nice vocals, but the melody is weak to me, with no hook and a forgettable chorus, so halfway through my ranking I still donโt feel compelled to get the album, which didnโt happen with her previous three albums
6. Promises (6): this is more like it! My top 7 includes the songs that I liked the most in terms of melody and production. Very solid instrumental and sexy vibe, with a catchy chorus that I still remember
5. Loving days (2): huh?!!! This was my favorite discovery by far. It sounded like a Sarah Brightman song from Eden or La Luna, which are favorites of mine. I love this type of lush, orchestral pop, Enigma-like sexy sound. Her vocals fit the song very well too.
4. Red blooded woman (1): awww... this has always been my favorite single from this era, especially the Narcotic Thrust remix version. It was her lone personal chart-topper and her most popular song in Peruvian radio -and clubs- from this album. Itโs got the strongest melody of the album to me, with multiple hooks, and some interesting production nuances. It wouldโve worked much better as a first single than as a follow-up to Slow.
3. Secret (7): very nice interpolation of Lisa Lisaโs classic in the chorus -before Fergie
very nice discovery with a very cool 80s instrumental and strong melody. I wouldโve ranked it higher if she didnโt sound that cringy โrappingโ. Otherwise, the Pharrell-like sound worked very well to me.
2. Slow (5): Iโve appreciated the song for being different, super sexy (including that video), and with slick production, but the melody is a bit too monotonous to be in my favorite top 20 Kylie singles. The song was played in pop radios back home after gaining a good comeback status with the Fever singles, but it didnโt do much, as expected. I agree with the comments that the label really fโed up her possibility to have a successful era and build on the generates post-Fever goodwill and expectation, but this was not all the way to do it.
1. Chocolate (3): I love all the songs in my top 3, so Iโm also happy for this one to take the crown. It sounds so smooth, elegant, sexy, lush, while also catchy and with fitting kitty vocals :) the melody and production are also quite strong -the only con is the random male vocals that appear especially in the verses; other than that, a great representative of her discography.
Thanks
bat1990 again for another set of great Rankdowns! (And the correction to my tightrope typo
)
