Robyn cover - made it to #2 in the UK & Australia and #93 on the US charts.
This is my least favorite song of all time. It takes everything that makes the original great and turns it into a whiny piano song that decimates the original contrast between the heartbreaking lyrics and the danceable production. And people prefer it to the original because "it's so much deeper" - don't get me started.

who greenlit this for him? how did this get so popular compared to other shit songs from this franchise? would this even be half as popular as it is if the white man was *not* gay?

I didn't like this at all and was really disappointed that this did so much better on radio and the charts than Robyn's epic original. The sad lyrics coupled with the umtempo Eurodisco production on Robyn's original worked. Turning it into a weepy song just didn't.

I liked this at the time but have never cared to revisit it.

One of my least favorite songs of all time. It's bullsh*t that they turned a dance classic into this whiny dredge.

genuinely don't see how a cover this whiny and this bad became such a big hit, let alone outperformed the original

He reinvigorated attention in the song, brought more ears to Robyn + has a good voice. He also likely picked it having a special reverence for it, being gay and all (all gays must stan Robyn, itโs the law)
Sure, itโs a literal interpretation - he took the sad dance pop song and made it a sad piano ballad. However, I donโt really mind it that much. There are other covers out there that have been more sinful than this

I like it for what it is. It doesn't take away from the iconic original, and his vocals were good.

So much dislike for this song in here. I'll be one of the few dissenters and say I really like it.
To each their own.

I heard this already but wasn't aware of the original version. After seeing this thread, I've decided to listen to the original and I may be in the minority here, but I'm fine with both versions. The production made it so that the two versions come from two different perspectives.
Robyn - heartbroken, but completely fine and willing to move on Calum Scott - heartbroken, but heart can't completely move on
