What do you believe is the most iconic song from every decade since the 1950s?

I disagree with some of the choices though.

I’m not really sure if/how this can be determined.

60s : Hey Jude (or any Beatles song) 70s : Eagles - Hotel California 80s : Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up 90s : Britney Spears - Baby One More Time / 2pac - California Love / The Notorious B.I.G. ft. Puff Daddy and Ma$e - Mo Money Mo Problems 00s : Eminem - Lose Yourself / Usher ft. Lil Jon and Ludacris - Yeah 10s : Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk / Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee - Despacito
Reasons :
60s : Beatles were iconic throughout the decade and throughout the later decades, like most boomers, Gen X, and millennials would recognize them
70s : Whenever most people (including me) think of the 70s in terms of music, most people would recognize Hotel California. Stayin’ Alive is an honorable mention
80s : Everybody has heard about this song, regardless of age, whether from Fortnite or from Rick Rolling, or from memes, or from it being really popular in the 80s, or from retro radio play in the 90s and 00s. Most people would recognize the song immediately just from the song intro.
90s : Britney Spears has led with BOMT to the influx of teen pop in the next 2 decades and the fact that actors and actresses in Disney/Nickelodeon live action shows can have a singing career(without her Christina Aguilera, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande, the Jonas Brothers, Hayley Kiyoko, Sabrina Carpenter, etc. would’ve never gotten popular (or at least to the level where they are at now)).
2Pac is known for being one of the best rap artists in terms of lyrical ability (if not the best) and California Love is a reflection of how to make a party song while still having excellent lyrics. Same for Mo Money Mo Problems, other than Biggie is best rapper in terms of flow. Biggie and 2Pac are the GOATs of Hip Hop.
00s: Lose Yourself is a hip hop classic which utilizes a combination of strong lyrics and a strong flow in order to make an excellent song. This would be the first song that gets to most people’s minds when talking about Eminem. This song is peak Slim Shady.
Yeah by Usher is a party classic which paved the way for party hip hop and pop throughout the next decade. The 2008-2012 dance pop boom was influenced by this classic, and many rap songs in the 2010s were influenced by this, even to this day. Play this at any party and you’d see lots of people dancing.
10s: Uptown Funk’s popularity has led to the influx of 80s influenced pop being popular on the charts (examples being The Weeknd - Starboy, The Weeknd - After Hours, Bruno Mars - 24k Magic, Dua Lipa - Future Nostaliga, and Doja Cat - Hot Pink, and other albums). Everybody can recognize this song immediately and it’s still a bop to this day.
Despacito is a song that everybody can recognize worldwide, and it has led to the influx of Spanish music on the Hot 100, and the subsequent popularity of foreign music (like this was the first experience of foreign music for lots of people). This song has spawned so many memes and memories and is just iconic in every way possible.

To me, Closer is the pinnacle song for the 2010's. I bet it's gonna be hella overused in movies about 5-10 years from now.

Hey Jude isn't the only iconic song of the 1960's, I notice that everyone on this thread picked that song as the most iconic song of the 1960's.

Look at the list of #1 songs for the 1960s here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Billboard_number-one_singlesA few I think: "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" by Marvin Gaye "The Sound of Silence" by Simon & Garfunkel "I'm a Believer" by The Monkees "Ode to Billie Joe" by Bobbie Gentry "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" by The Righteous Brothers

Not to say all of these are necessarily the MOST iconic songs of the decade, but here’s just a few options off the top of my head that I think are iconic in their own right: Aretha Franklin - “Respect” Simon & Garfunkel - “The Sound Of Silence” The Supremes - “Stop! In the Name Of Love” The Shirelles - “Will You Love Me Tomorrow” Chubby Checker - “The Twist” Ray Charles - “I Can’t Stop Loving You” Bobby Boris & the Crypt Kickers - “Monster Mash” Little Peggy March - “I Will Follow Him” Lesley Gore - “It’s My Party” The Animals - “The House Of The Rising Sun” The Temptations - “My Girl” The Righteous Brothers - “You’ve Lost That Lovin Feelin” Four Tops - “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)” The Rolling Stones - “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” The Beatles - “All You Need Is Love” Nancy Sinatra - “These Boots Are Made For Walkin” The Crystals - “He’s A Rebel” The Dixie Cups - “Chapel of Love” The Marvelettes - “Please Mr. Postman” The Beach Boys - “Good Vibrations” The Monkees - “I’m A Believer” The Doors - “Light My Fire” Otis Redding - “(Sittin’ On) The Dock On The Bay” Simon & Garfunkel - “Mrs. Robinson” Marvin Gaye - “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” The 5th Dimension - “Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In” + so many more
