I was reading how Liverpool was considered the City of Pop b/c they produced the most #1 singles so I decided to see how each city is faring. I decided to use where the artists grew up as their hometown (not birth place) according to Wikipedia (so let me know if you think there are some mistakes for some artists). If their city is part of a greater metropolis, I grouped them together (so alot of artists will be grouped in LA, NYC etc). Here is the current top 30 standings from the beginning of 1958 to present. Rank | City | Weeks @ #1 | # of #1 singles | Artists with #1s | 1 | New York City, NY | 651 | 200 | 106 | 2 | Los Angeles, CA | 430 | 142 | 85 | 3 | Atlanta, GA | 260 | 51 | 27 | 4 | London, UK
| 220 | 84 | 42 | 5 | Detroit, MI
| 156 | 63 | 20 | 6 | Chicago, IL | 120 | 48 | 22 | 7 | Houston, TX
| 101 | 26 | 12 | 8 | Philadelphia, PA
| 98 | 27 | 14 | 9 | Toronto, CAN | 93 | 20 | 10 | 10 | Liverpool, UK | 90 | 31 | 6 | 11 | Miami, FL
| 65 | 26 | 15 | 12 | Saint Michael, BRB | 60 | 14 | 1 | 13 | Memphis, TN | 54 | 18 | 8 | =14 | Pittsburgh, PA | 51 | 14 | 6 | =14 | San Francisco, CA

| 35 | 12 | 5 | =21 | St. Louis, MO
| 35 | 9 | 6 | 23 | Santa Barbara, CA | 33 | 9 | 1 | 24 | Dallas, TX | 31 | 11 | 6 | 25 | Minneapolis, MN

Did you find anyone who wasn't from a city (or metropolitan area) at all? I can't think of any current pop stars from little villages or rural areas, except Ellie Goulding.

You can just see the dominance of hip hop by looking at the Atlanta chart. Like once the 90s came, the numbers for Atlanta started to skyrocket.

Are Beyonce's number-ones counted as two for Houston since she had #1s with Destiny's Child and as a solo act?

Are Beyonce's number-ones counted as two for Houston since she had #1s with Destiny's Child and as a solo act? I counted then separately. her solos count as a single for Houston and Destiny's Child also count as a single for Houston but won't be double counted as a number one for Beyonce as well
