Examples of weak Hot 100 no.1s due to hype but fell fast?

- Part of Me
- Crack a Bottle
- Touch My Body (kinda)

Maybe people here can mention examples of 90s, 80s no 1s?

For the 90s,"Wild Wild West" seemed to have pretty bad longevity. It spent only 17 weeks on the chart, it and Crack a Bottle are the only #1 songs since the recurrent rule that spent less than 20 weeks on the Hot 100, without debuting at #1. The early 90s also had some short-lived number 1s. "Step by Step" and "Praying for Time" only spent 15 and 14 weeks on the Hot 100, respectively and they were both by huge stars, maybe "Justify My Love" would count with it charting for only 16 weeks.

As for the 80s, quite a few of the "Bad" era Michael Jackson #1s had pretty awful longevity. "I Just Can't Stop Loving You", "Dirty Diana" even "Bad" all spent a mere 14 weeks on the Hot 100.

You mean the scotts? And yeah all of those songs listed had awful longevity. Promise of a new day-Paula Abdul lasted only 16 weeks i believe. I’m sure many early 90s (90-91) #1s can count as well

In the 70s Diana Ross (Do You Know Where You're Going To)... it hit #1...low airplay nicely discounted singles it hit #1 and the free fall began

I just want to point out how Dont Start Now and this song was released around the same time and Dont Start Now is JUST NOW leaving the top 10 but LYTLM already left a whilllllle ago

Shallow- Lady Gaga (kinda)...it hit #1 due to the Oscar performance and stayed in the top 10 for 7 weeks

Sad by XXX...after he died the song hit #1 then free fall
