Can't find a thread for this. Everytime I listen to this, it just takes me back to 4th grade. I don't know why. Probably because I remember the students in 5th grade rehearsing and singing this for their graduation. They were just right next door to my 4th grade classroom.
It soon became referred to as "the new black national anthem" (the original being the 1900 song "Lift Every Voice and Sing"). During my sophomore or junior year in high school, my high school had this as their theme song.
Peaked at #13 Hot 100, #1 R&B, and #10 Disco.

Love this, along with that era of music.

Classic disco anthem right here with an uplifting message. Often heard this as an old school cut on WGCI, V103, and 103.5 during its short-lived "Jammin Oldies" format in the late 90s/early 2000s.
