With the current surge of cases they really need to just move this to a virtual show. Not that anyone has the time for the VMAs this year anyways.

Shame that the year when Gaga might actually be taken into account again for this particular show, the situation is this :/

I feel like Ariana shouldn't be nominated for AOTY, given her music videos in the last year are for "Don't Call Me Angel," "Stuck with U," and "Rain on Me" and she hasn't released any project of her own, but she's been popular nonetheless so idk. I would try to predict but this show really is unpredictable in the worst possible way. Watch them give AOTY to BTS or NCT-239432 or something.

In reality Artist of the Year should go to The Weeknd, but it's a fan voted ceremony so they'll probably nominate artists with huge fanbases like Shawn Mendes, Bieber or BTS who had zero presence compared to artists like Abel, Roddy or Dua, artists that actually dominated the year.

Isn’t that how it is every year for the past 6-7 years? I swear the last time the VMAs were actually relevant was the 2013 awards with the Miley Cyrus/Robin Thicke performance and the 10 second NSYNC reunion.

That was also a moment, albeit much less significant than the 2013 show.

These nominations are hilarious. Justin Bieber for Artist of The Year? "The Man" for Video of The Year? No Dua in the performance categories?
As predicted, "Rain On Me" is the big star of the nominations.

No Dua in any of the main categories...MTV is TRASH
Also, how did Katy not get nominated for Best Quarantine Performance when she has been serving us visual effects all summer (Can’t Cancel Pride, Idol, GMA)

These nominations are bad even by current VMA standards. Jesus. Maybe not as egregious as Dua, but Harry also got snubbed in the artist categories. Yaass at ROM! The amount of noms means she is not getting the Vanguard Award this year though. Beyonce had the most nominations (and most wins) the year she received the Vanguard so I wouldn't say that's definite just yet.

Circles definitely deserved a VOTY nomination, especially over fucking everything i wanted lmao. Also no Best Pop nod? They gave Jonas Brothers a Best Pop nomination but Post doesn't get one for some reason. Also, why is Blinding Lights in the RnB category? It's a fucking pop song! It also deserved a SOTY nomination since it's one of the biggest songs of the year, but whatever.
Of course Dua being snubbed despite delivering like 4 really good videos this year. What a huge mess.

I mean,
The Man: VOTY nominated song Look What You Made Me Do:
also, Megan Thee Stallion nominated for ARTIST OF THE YEAR? With one hit that doesn't even have a music video.
and the biggest song of the year - Blinding Lights, not nominated in that category.
everything i wanted VOTY nom too.......
