Can't wait till next year when we all get mad at the nominations and winners again! anything MTV puts on is a joke so I don't think anyone's actually mad. the GRAMMY thread will be poppin in a few weeks tho I'm sure!

You make not like the weird cuts or her masks, but these were her choices, not limitations imposed by MTV. I guess you might like not this year's lineup, their song choices and so on, but I think they actually managed to put out performances that feel just like regular VMA performances. If you watch The Weeknd's performance, or Miley's, you don't really see the limitations imposed by the pandemic at all. they still weren’t live. I find the “pretending to be live when it’s clearly re-recorded” kinda thing unsettling. Well, we know they weren't live, but when I watched Blinding Lights it seemed like a live performance to me. So did Doja Cat's (the performance, not the vocals). It was only after I watched some of the other performances and looked it up online that I understood the whole thing was pre-recorded. By the way, if Ariana was there to pre-record her performance with Gaga, why didn't she accept her VMA?

I also would have loved to see her accept "Rain on Me" awards alongside Gaga, as they would have in a regular year. I'm guessing there was a scheduling conflict / they shot the performance one day and Gaga accepted her awards a different day (when the VMA fake stage setup was done)?

But the fact that Ariana didn't even bother to tape an acceptance for SWU (on the day of her performance or from home) was very odd. Seemed like she deliberately didn't want to do it.
