I want this to be open to any decade like the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s, etc. Which albums (and/or songs define the "sound" of all these decades (or any specific one)?
There are definitely many different sounds all specific to a certain decade which they were most famously relevant in, so it's more like the popular "sounds" of the decade.
Here's my take on the 2010s sound through albums just for fun:
Animal - Kesha (early 10s Electro Pop)
Teenage Dream - Katy Perry (the beginning of 80s inspired pop during the 2010s/Electro Pop)
Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites - Skrillex (early 2010s Dubstep)
21 - Adele (early 2010s indie pop/pop ballads)
18 Months - Calvin Harris (2010s Progressive House in general)
True - Avicii (Progressive House inspired Pop)
Pure Heroine - Lorde (the beginning of slower pop (as opposed to Electro Pop) in the 2010s/the start of mainstream moody pop in the 2010s)
1989 - Taylor Swift (80s inspired pop/mid-tempo pop in the Mid-2010s)
If Your Reading This It's Too Late - Drake (Mid 2010s Hip Hop)
Purpose - Justin Bieber (Mid 2010s Tropical Pop/Mid-2010s Chill Pop)
Anti - Rihanna (this album was the transition into the Chill Pop trend which initially became popular during 2016 but peaked in 2017 - 2019)
Collage - The Chainsmokers/Memories...Do Not Open - The Chainsmokers (2016 - 2018 Future Bass/Future Bass done in a more pop friendly way)
Culture II - Migos, Scorpion - Drake (late 2010s Trap Rap)
? - XXXTENTACION, Goodbye & Good Riddance - Juice WRLD (late 2010s Sad Rap/emo rap, which falls under late 2010s Trap Rap but it has a somewhat distinct sound to it in my opinion)
Vibras - J Balvin (late 2010s Latin Pop/late 2010s Reggaeton)
thank u, next - Ariana Grande (late 2010s Chill Pop/late 2010s Trap Pop)
WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? - Billie Eilish (The epitome of late 2010s sad pop/moody pop, as well as Chill Pop to some extent)
I'm curious about people's perspectives on what the popular sound of each decade was.
