With "July" reentering this week it reminded me we lost singer Benny Mardones a few days ago who had a two separate chart runs with the same song "into the night".The song was a top 20 hit in 1980 and was popularized again in 1989 and hit the top 20 again. Historically very few songs get two separate chart runs with the same song.
Chubby Checker – The Twist (1960 and 1961) (#1 both times)
Ben E. King – Stand By Me (#4 in 1961 and #9 in 1986)
The Contours – Do You Love Me (#3 in 1962 and #11 in 1988)
Bobby “Boris” Pickett & Crypt-Kickers – Monster Mash (#1 in 1962 and #10 in 1973)
The Safaris – Wipeout (#2 in 1963 and #16 in 1966)
The Righteous Brothers – Unchained Melody (#4 in 1965 and #13 in 1990)
Aerosmith – Dream On (#59 in 1973 and #6 in 1976)
Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody (#9 in 1976 and #2 in 1992)
Benny Mardones – Into the Night (#11 in 1980 and #20 in 1989)

Nice to hear some older extras this week as well as jingles. Surprised "I hope" didn't enter this week but not too surprised to see July back although it came in way higher than I expected. It will be interesting to see if Blinding Lights comes back again to knock out Bieber in the next couple of weeks.

I'd say July's case isn't that uncommon as the song simply fell off the chart but came back on without being pushed separately or re-released, whereas the examples listed here are probably more rare because they occurred in different years. More recent examples of those would also include Secret Garden by Bruce Springsteen, Candy by Mandy Moore, Forget You by Cee-Lo, Who Knew by Pink, and perhaps even Shallow by Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper.

Thanks for the additions .The previous chart I had posted was based on top 20 not top 40.i'm sure there are a few more if all the top 40 was included like: stand by me and red red wine (which had a rap added in it's 2nd run).Oh what a night had a dance remix version in it's 2nd run.

I think "Time of Your Life (Good Riddance)" by Green Day re-entered in 1998.

Just thinking about remakes of former top 40 hits they were very common back in the day usually several each year .Since 2010 I can only come up with two remakes "higher Love" and "What I like about you".

^"Africa."
Although "Heroes" was originally by David Bowie, it charted for The Wallflowers in the '90s, then Alesso & Tove Lo had a Top 40 version of it in 2015.
"You Don't Own Me" by Lesley Gore was remade in 2016 by Grace f/G-Eazy.

I think that was the week the chart switched over to the Plays Per Week format so there was a lot of erratic movements. I don’t think Casey even cited song positions that week as a result.

To the Moon and Back charted in 97&98, I know in 98 it made the top 20 I'm not sure about in 97 I think it peaked at #21 both times? Or maybe it peaked slightly higher the second time around but both performances were fairly on par with each other. Usually when a song charts twice it does significantly better in one of them.

He also mentioned the fastest riser in the past 50 years. It was Carly Simon with “You’re So Vain” which jumped 28 spots.

Come to think of it, I think it was the Hot AC countdown in which Seacrest lumped Madonna's AT40 hits and her Hot AC hits, to get her overall total of entries. Hot AC Archiver, perhaps you would know best. :) Thanks.

Here's an idea. They could have taken 50 rewinds, mixed them up so it wasn't all super old music in any hour, and made a great 50th anniversary show. Oops, too late.

The Righteous Brothers – Unchained Melody (#4 in 1965 and #13 in 1990)
What I liked about this one is it not only charted a second time in 1990 but charted twice at the same time in 1990
The original 1965 version and the 'Ghost' movie version - both were even in the top 20 at the same time

All the HAC chart shows use CHR for their chart history prior to the spring of 1994.

And if I’m not mistaken, Madonna had an extra #1 at Hot AC, which was “Secret.” So hopefully Ryan mentioned that she had 16 #1s on that version of the show.
Upland, do you remember what Ryan said? No biggie, just curious 🙂

Hot AC Archiver, perhaps you would know best. Thanks. I haven't heard the total yet on AT40, and I don't keep track of the Hot AC version of AT40's chart. Thus I probably won't be much help. Below is Madonna's HAC chart history. Keep in mind songs that charted in the 30s on Mediabase probably didn't make it onto AT40 HAC.

Ryan said they will be celebrating the 50th anniversary all year long so I believe the Rewind feature will be Casey introing notable hits over the history of the show. Just my hunch.
It's sad that Shadoe gets no love in these flashbacks. It's like he never was a part of the show. I thought he did a fantastic job and the show sounded great. I loved the flashback segment and his style of wordsmithing. Made the show fun.

^ I really liked Shadoe too. In fact I listened to him instead of Casey's Top 40. It's not right the way he was and is being treated.

Heard Cumulus/Westwood One own the rights to Shadoe's AT40 and wasn't given permission to reair .... if the rights was released, then it would be used

While I understand why his shows aren't airing, I just don't understand their blatant omission of a host that hosted the show for more than 6 years. Why can't Ryan simply say his name? I guess their loyalty lies with Casey eventhough he was a competitor of AT40 during Shadoe's AT40 run.
Shadoe put his heart and soul into the show. While I understand times are much different today than in the late 80s and early 90's, Shadoe was busy too hosting AT40, Hollywood Squares and then acting in Dave's World.

When AT40 celebrated the 40th Anniversary, they had a photo gallery on their website which included a picture of Shadoe. I honestly don't remember if Ryan ever said Shadoe's name. When Jimmy Fallon guest hosted AT40, he said that he felt like Shadoe Stevens. :)
As for the Madonna question above, I was finally able to listen to the HAC version of the show. Ryan says 16 numbers ones, which must then include "Secret", which only hit #1 on the HAC chart.

If Ryan makes it to the 60th Anniversary, he'll be the longest running host in AT40 CHR history.
Hosting years through AT40's 50th Anniversary:
Casey Kasem: 24 years (1970-88, 1998-2003) Ryan Seacrest: 16.5 years (2004-current) Shadoe Stevens: 6.5 years (1988-1995)
Show was off air from Feb 1995 until late March 1998.
