"Don't Let Me Be The Last to Know" from Oops... I Did It Again (2000) Songwriters: Robert John "Mutt" Lange, Shania Twain, Keith Scott Producer: Robert John "Mutt" Lange The fourth single from Britney's second studio album, and also the final release from the project is infamous in her fanbase for several reasons. First, it missed the Hot 100 completely, the first time an US single from Britney did so poorly. It's video was also the first time Britney was depicted in an overtly sexual context, including much more sexually suggestive content that was ultimately squashed by Lynne Spears (her mother). Justin Timberlake of all people also had issues with the kissing scenes. Nonetheless, in hindsight it's really sexy and well done, and served as an appetizer for what was coming... as her next release was "I'm A Slave 4 U" and we can all agree that one took the sexiness in a whole other level. This song is underrated af.

This was one of my fave songs from that album.
I remember the big fuss the video had generated on the news back then. It was tooted as her "coming of age" video.

I love the Thunderpuss remix of this. It is so over the top and dramatic in the best possible way.

Not a bad song at all. It's too bad that it underperformed like it did, but there really wasn't an obvious hit left on the album, like her other releases.

Somehow this reached #3 on the UK Indie charts? There's also songs from R. Kelly and Joe (also on Jive), so Jive must've been considered an independent label in the UK. Anyway, one of my all time favorite Britney songs. I loved that she pulled it out for the Femme Fatale tour, performing it over some of her bigger hits.

One of her best vocal performances on record.

The bones of the song are solid and I like what they were going for with the background vocals, but I've always hated the production. Ends up sounding so chintzy.
Enough can't be said of the Hex Hector remix though. It turns the song into an event.

I remember thinking "Britney's releasing a ballad!!" at the time but in retrospect, this is a classic Mutt/Shania mid-tempo.
Also I was a thirsty pre-teen and just wanted to see the video for the shirtless male love interest. :kii:
