Who let the Mayo shopper in?! Loose Tape is cute but not on the level of Resolution!! From the production, lyrics, to the visuals and the snake and how sexy she looked! I know visuals arent the most important to u judging by the avatar but I need you to NOT f**k up this ranking. Coco I love you But we are NOT going to disrespect Loose Rap like that Respect should be put on ALL 15 songs Any of you hoes diss any of these 15 songs, you deserve to be tried in court for TREASON.

"We Need a Resolution" kept sliding down in my list. I needed to make sure certain album tracks won't be tanked :sip2: This. Static outdid the Timbo tracks. Sorry! ...but Static worked on the Tim tracks too :sip2:

I checked Billboard and I did not know "We Need a Resolution" spent over 3 months on the Hot 100 despite only peaking at #59. Does anyone have any insight on what happened with radio for that song after her runaway success with "Are You That Somebody?" and the Romeo Must Die singles? I meant to respond to this earlier. This is mostly speculation on my part, but I think it's simply that Blackground/Virgin (Blackground's distributor at the time) chose not to put a lot of money or effort into the push at radio. Mediabase's callout database goes back as far as the late 90s so I looked up WNAR's scores from way back when, and the song had consistently nice net positives on urban for almost its entire 'natural run there (55-60% net positive, only dipping into the low 50s in August), though its favorite score was middling compared to other songs (20-25% range). After her death WNAR's net positive shot up to 70-75% while its favorite score increased to the 27-30% range - but at the same time Rock The Boat was clocking a 45-50% favorite with a similar 70-75% net positive. In 2000, Try Again and I Don't Wanna simultaneously pulled in 30-40% favorite/70-75% net positive at the height of their runs. So I think it is fair to say that the urban audience liked WNAR a good bit, but they didn't love it as much as they normally loved Aaliyah hits at the time. OTOH, WNAR showed up only briefly on rhythmic callout right after the album release and those scores were pretty poor. The burn rate was also high so I don't know if the song was never well received there, or if it did all right at first and people got tired of it after hearing it for several months. Rock The Boat and More Than a Woman showed up quickly and had good callout there, though. From what I can tell none of the Red Album singles ever showed up on pop callout. WNAR wasn't a wrong lead for her core audience, and at the very least should have been pushed to become a solid 'local' hit - the urban callout it did get was still objectively good, and as good or better than other songs that went on to peak higher. But according to her album and single wiki pages, both labels involved really wanted a big radio smash. So it is possible that they felt WNAR wasn't going to be the huge crossover they wanted (based on the rhythmic reception and/or whatever little feedback they had from the pop audience) and decided it wasn't worth pushing at any format. It really had no business flopping on urban given both her name recognition at that point and the positive survey reception, but only intentional neglect or budget issues could reasonably explain it. Not helping her Hot 100 position was that after One In a Million (the album), Blackground didn't issue any physical releases in the US for her singles. Single sales were being phased out quickly around that time, but there were still some labels using physical pressings to get quick chart boosts and Aaliyah definitely could have had a stronger overall Hot 100 showing if Blackground had bothered. The WNAR video was popular and did well on BET and MTV. That was starting to become a recent thing in the early aughts - songs with ostensibly poor chart showings that nonetheless helped move some album units because of a consistent video presence on MTV/BET. From a label perspective, if the song you're pushing isn't about to become the monster single you desired I guess saving your radio coins and letting the video you already shelled out cash for do all the work is not the worst idea; she pulled in her largest opening sales week regardless. Just seems a bit short-sighted IMO to bail on a format where a song would have likely done well. WE NEED A RESOLUTION is cute but was the wrong choice for the lead. She looks fierce in the video though! You know? Honestly... I listen to the album and don't really hear many single choices. It was moreso arts not charts definitely. All the sounds and production was so different to where I think back to where 2001 R&B was (U Remind Me, Peaches & Cream, Family Affair, Fallin', Where the Party At, etc). I think Rock the Boat & More than a Woman were really the two hits on the album. Loose Rap maybe would've been a cute single. Ironically I think WNAR was the right lead single for that very reason. Obviously not a move I'd recommend for a debut or even a second album; but going into a third album (almost a fourth since she was also coming off the Romeo Must Die soundtrack), the lead is where a singer could most get away with making a more 'artistic' choice and still be fairly assured that she'd have a nice debut week off the strength of her name and existing fanbase. If the lead doesn't do so well on the charts then it is what it is, but you still have some room to recover by falling back on the safer choices and no one can say you didn't at least try to advance your sound. The biggest glaring mistake in my opinion was the gap between the first and second single, especially following the album release (sadly, Aaliyah's death was the only visibility that album got in August '01 because she had nothing booked that month). I don't know why Blackground thought it was okay to let so much time go by like that, especially when the album itself had been pushed back six weeks from its original release date. But I suppose there is no point in asking for logic from a label that let WNAR perform as poorly as it did in the first place. I think Those Were The Days and I Care 4 U would have done well as fourth and fifth singles.

It would've been interesting to also include the new songs included on the "I Care 4 U" compilation. It was only 6 songs (not enough for its own album rate) and they were recorded for the "Aaliyah" album originally, so they are in a way an extension.

A A L I Y A H: The Rankdown (Reveals Pending)Album Facts • Recording sessions were initiated in spring 1998 with an intended release for February 1999. • Aaliyah was concerned about overexposure and also wanted to pursue acting so the album release was pushed back to allow her to co-star in Romeo Must Die. • After agreeing to record several songs for the soundtrack, Try Again went on to become her sole #1 hit on the Hot 100 and earned Blackground a distribution deal with Virgin Records. • After RMD, she was chosen to star in the thriller Queen of the Damned which resulted in much of the album being recorded in Melbourne, Australia. • Aaliyah personally called Trent Reznor (of Nine Inch Nails) to produce a track for the album but they were unable to coordinate schedules. • Upon its release, the album debuted at #2 with sales of 187k (behind Alicia Keys' songs in A minor); the first week after her passing, it rebounded to #1 with 305k in sales - the first artist to posthumously achieve a #1 album since John Lennon in 1980 • Aaliyah sold over 3.5 million copies worldwide and earned 3 American Music Awards, 3 Soul Train Awards and 3 Grammy nominations Now for y'all to discuss what you think will, or should, be included in the bottom-5 reveal coming later this evening.

My bottom 3: I Refuse, I Can Be, U Got Nerve.
I just know the underrated "Messed Up" will be one of the first out though.

predictions:
- Rock The Boat will win and have the lowest or second-lowest standard deviation - I Care 4 U will be the highest ranking "album track" (granted, I'm massively cheating with this prediction since it went on to be the lead single from her posthumous album) - It's Whatever, Read Between the Lines, and U Got Nerve will be among the bottom 5 - I think BMAC is gonna punch someone or several someones over Extra Smooth - WNAR will have one of the 3 highest deviations and miss the top 3. Several people will be ready to punch someone or several someones over this - in general I foresee several songs having comparatively 'high' deviations bc ranks are going to be all over the place
I am afraid to make any predictions beyond that bc I'm probably wrong about 75% of those as it is
