Iβm just saying yβall should cut Sam some slack, Iβm actually grateful it peaked at the top 40 and thatβs honestly where it should be at.

That's cool that you're glad it did as well as it did. Still, in spite of a relatively stronger radio run "Diamonds" failed to outdo any of his post-HDYS? singles in any major way (I think even "To Die For" streamed better? you're probably more familiar with the actual numbers). This forum is focused on chart performance, and in that regard, there needs to be some effort soon to market Sam and their music better.
I believe this is actually their best album to date, but there have been way too many mistakes during the campaign for the numbers to reflect that (and yes, I know it got a gazillion streams and all, but look at the weekly performance on the album charts and tell me if you really feel this is living up to their previous success; the gazillion streams are in part due to singles released more than a year before the actual project).
Ultimately it's also not anyone's job to "cut Sam some slack". They're fine, they're releasing music that clearly represents them in a much better way than earlier material. It's Sam's most carefree era, and there's a fun factor here that wasn't present on most of their first two albums. I think it's fine for fans to want more promo, more success, more singles. Part of the fun of supporting an act means you want them to do well, but that takes effort and work, especially when you've had a few underperformers like Sam has.

So weβre gonna pretend Sam didnβt delay the album with singles they were supposed to be in the album in the first place, if this pandemic didnβt happen we wouldβve been talking an completely different ball game.
The numbers are surprisingly fine, giving the circumstances
Spotify: 3.10B (with daily 3.4M streams)
Singles SPS have sold over 30m WW
Album is already certified in three countries (nearing gold in the UK, Eligible in the US)
Album has done 3M WW (Pre- Streams)
I understand yβall want the best for Sam, but I honestly think theyβve done enough, their already working in their 4th album

Choco, youβre absolutely right, the mistakes are FULLY on Capitol records and their poor marketing management, they didnβt even want Sam to release the album to begin with but Sam insisted for the fans.
And to also your question on their previous eras, the overall sales of Love Goes have surpassed their second era βThrill Of It Allβ, so... not much of an decline.

But after performances Diamonds couldn't enter top 10 in the UK. You are probably gonna say it's the pandemic but not managing a top 10 in their home country can't you see something is off? Saw a comment somewhere that they lost the GP after being more open which is unfortunately very likely.

Saw a comment somewhere that they lost the GP after being more open which is unfortunately very likely. Which the three previous singles peaked at the top 10 with one peaking at #1. Diamonds peaked at Top 11 with an album that still hasnβt left the top 20 upon release, most of the love goes singles PEAKED in the top 20 while βThe Thrill Of It Allβ singles flopped after TGAG, the same can be said in the US, where most peaked at the top 40 where AGAIN the thrill of all singles after TGAG failed to chart in the top 60, and WAY before their non binary identity. And if the GP is over them, than whatβs this...

Lol @ the "it's a sixth single" rhetoric. For all intents and purposes, this is the lead. All previous singles are tacked on as a bonus. This is the only one to even be associated with the album when it comes to promo and marketing. Not to mention they tried to launch an album like three times and never did until finally settling with this.
It's one thing to argue why Sam isn't "over" or whatever, but let's not make up pretend figures to make things seem better than they are. Especially when this isn't even performing that poorly to begin with.

But the singles & album have sold the era over 30m SPS WW, I know itβs because of the old singles but Sam has stated many times that weβre staying to begin with... Spotify numbers are not made up either chartmasters.org/spotify-top-2020-albums/Itβs certifications arenβt made up either, when you can easily google the album and see them, I went a bit overboard with the 6th single fiasco but a win is a win

That's the same metric Ellie Goulding is using to ask why her "hit" album wasn't nominated for more awards.
(Hint, her album was not really a hit).

Eillie Goulding barely had one hit in her album and having just two certifications, not even silver in the UK, yet people in this thread are saying Samβs career is over, so yeah...
Sam will have more certifications to show it least did decent.

Their current predicament really reminds me of Charlie.
Dancing With A Stranger was a change of pace and a surprisingly big hit (Attention), followed by a song along the same lines that was also a decent sized hit, albeit not that big (How Do You Sleep / How Long). And THEN the album pushback, which completely killed the hype. A collab with a female artist became the new "lead" single (Done For Me / I'm Ready) but went nowhere and then there was one more single that radio played but no one streamed (Diamonds / The Way That I Am). The album scrapes the top 5 with middling sales and reviews and instantly flatlines
Charlie hasn't found his footing ever since. We'll see how Sam deals with it I guess. They're a bit more established, so...

Sam is far more established than Charlie since you know.. four time Grammy winner
Sam can EASILY bounce back, this isnβt the first they had an problem getting hits, and the album is still charting EVERYWHERE in fact it rose 40 spots in Billboard.
The ORIGINAL SS3 album was literally selling out in their store website and was doing rather great on ITunes Preorders, if the push back didnβt happen, the album wouldβve opened better than the new one.
I really feel the reviews donβt matter because critics NEVER liked Sam to begin with..

The Grammy's are not a great example. They haven't scored a nomination since they won those 4 awards, 6 years ago.
Anyway, everything was going well before the pushback, which is exactly my point. The delay derailed the era, just like it did Charlie's. Seemingly, at least.

But they still have more Grammys than likes of Miley, Ariana, Shawn of other artists that debuted or had an breakout album/era. Charlie is literally peaking in the bubbling under charts while Sam can still peak within the top 40.. Capitol just did an complete new staff change, which is good to salvage whatever they can to fix their shit

Please excuse my ignorance. your ignorance won't be excused because a) no human being wants to be referred to as "it" and b) you could have scrolled just a few posts up to see others using they/them/theirs pronouns, which Sam goes by

Please excuse my ignorance. donβt feel bad, the whole pronoun thing isnβt common knowledge for most people Sam has they/them pronouns, so youβd say βdoesnβt Sam Smith have their own fan forum?β I know it looks weird because βtheyβ is normally used as plural, but thatβs the best option the English language has, so itβs used. Edit; there are two very different responses in this thread lol

Now.. can we please get this thread back in track on the actual single.
Frankly, Sam should just drop Diamonds move on to something else or end the era as the whole.
