OMG!!!! YES MICKEY!!!!
I completely agree about pushing out a new single during the show. Hopefully iHeart also makes her the next OTV pick after Lainey as well! So radio would be forced to play her for real (if it becomes necessary to do so). *evil laughter*

I swear Capitol better throw everything they got behind her and push a new single (and full album) this year! ESPECIALLY when she wins that Grammy!! No more excuses.

With all the hype around her this past year it really is head-scratching that they haven't tried to capitalize with a full album yet. Hopefully with the Grammys and now hosting the ACMs hopefully that will be part of the path they take. There is no reason she should not be a huge star at Country Radio, it is unforgivable that she hasn't had a hit yet!!!

That would make no sense. Basically since Gabby is having a record breaking year. Ingrid herself probably put out the best country slow song to come out in a long time, which also had great success.

It would make a lot more sense than Tenille Townes winning last year with no hit and questionable talent. Mickey has a Grammy nom and all the talent in the world lol.

not only does Mickey have tons of talent and a grammy nom, but she has been one of the MOST talked about artist of the past year. Maybe radio didn't play her but radio isn't everything. The industry has been buzzing about her all year and tbh Gabby hasn't had the type of buzz that Mickey has had in that sense so I could absolutely see Mickey winning this year and she would 100% be deserving of it! I'm rooting for her because I think she deserves it the most and I'd be annoyed to see someone like Gabby win as I don't think she'd even be a thought if it weren't for American Idol, whereas Mickey is where she's at because of her talent alone!

Going by what u just said: Miranda, Carrie, And Kacey should not win awards because they were on singing shows like Idol, or Nashville Star. IMO in doesn’t matter if you came from a singing competition or not. If you put in the work and have success no matter where you come from you deserve to be nominated and win. .

I'm not saying that they shouldn't win awards because they came from singing shows. I am comparing specifically the situation between Gabby and Mickey and why I feel Mickey deserves the win more than Gabby. Gabby got a boost cause of Idol, that is a fact. Mickey had no such boost. Yes Gabby still had to win over radio programmers and listeners and she did that, otherwise "I Hope" would not have been the smash it became. However the difference is that the buzz that "What Are You Gonna Tell Her" and "Black Like Me" had came from Mickey's talent and hard work ALONE, as she didn't have anything to help give her that boost. Also Mickey had multiple songs that helped keep her name out there last year whereas Gabby had one song, same with Ingrid. Yes those songs were huge but one song should not be enough to win the award.

Very very happy with this news today! I'm thrilled she's getting this opportunity! With all this positive attention towards her Capitol had better have something in the works for her soon, I don't think there's ever going to be a better time to launch a single for her.
I also think she has the Grammy in the bag, it's stiff competition there too but I'm betting on her taking it.
The ACM is harder to predict but as seen with Tenille's win last year it's not always about who's got bigger sales, industry support is probably more important and I think Mickey's got more people in her court than Gabby or Ingrid. (I've always felt like Warner artists struggle at awards actually)

The amount of people that still say she is not a country singer in the comment section of articles involving her drives me crazy. And then they say she shouldn't be involved in this type of stuff because radio doesn't play her songs and that the award shows should bring Morgan Wallen back. I'm sick of hearing it all.

I’m arguing with racist trolls on Twitter. I hate that they’re bringing politics into the convo. If it was a white girl up there they wouldn’t complain!! Damn nasties, I couldn’t not say something.
She deserves the world, she deserves to be heard.

I spent my free time yesterday on CMT's Facebook fighting the racists all day! Needless to say, they are very outspoken and comment on every single CMT post. They are the reason we can't have nice things! (I had to "mute" CMT's posts because it is just not healthy for me.)

Tylerjamesnerd d3vin44 I had to unfortunately unfollow the CMT facebook page because of the nasty racists. It is so bad the way some people act on there and think they are not being horrible. I can only imagine how horrible twitter is. At this point until Country radio is playing Mickey in top rotation I will not accept them bringing Morgan Wallen back, as it would be an absolutely terrible look at this point. Enough is enough with allowing racist to have a say in anything, I'm done with them.

Mickey’s “Black Like Me” is quickly moving up iTunes because of her Grammy’s performance. She is 5&13 (two of the same song are on iTunes) at the time of posting with that song.

This is just too ridiculous. If a white person wrote a song about being white, they’d get harsh criticism but for some reason it still seems to matter to people what color you are, in 2021. I don’t understand.

This is just too ridiculous. If a white person wrote a song about being white, they’d get harsh criticism but for some reason it still seems to matter to people what color you are, in 2021. I don’t understand. Well a white person couldn't write a song about the injustice that they've faced because of the color of their skin growing up in America because they haven't experienced that. Mickey and other black individuals have experienced that injustice solely because of the color of their skin that led to their circumstances. Racism is more than individuals hating people because of the color of their skin. Racism is a systemic issue that spreads across education, healthcare, business, government, and many more aspects of life. The reason that it still matters to people what color people are is because colorblindness may solve the racism from individuals, but it doesn't fix the systemic issues. We as a society cannot just claim "EQUALITY!" and turn a blind eye to these issues. People of color are disadvantaged in so many important areas of life and like Mickey says in her song, they shouldn't have to work twice as hard to have the same opportunity. As an example to illustrate this, there was a biracial family that had their home appraised and it came back appraised at a much lower value than expected ($330,000). They got a second appraisal and this time took out all family photos and replaced them with solo photos of the white husband. Other indicators that a black woman lived in the home were also removed (black literature, Christmas cards of black family and friends). The second appraisal came back at $465,000, a $135,000 difference when all blackness was removed from the home. ( Source) Discrimination like this happens DAILY for black people in all areas of their lives. Every time a friend or coworker shares a story like this, my heart breaks for them and all minorities that face discrimination of any form because of the circumstances they cannot help. As a white male, I don't fully understand the systems at play disadvantaging black people or women until I listen to the stories of the people who do face that discrimination. That is why songs like "Black Like Me" matter. Mickey is telling her story to an audience that historically has not had anyone like Mickey to hear stories from. Country music listeners haven't heard a song about systemic racism or what it's like to be black in America on country radio, but it's introducing people to stories like this that will help people understand the differences between growing up black and growing up white in this country. It's similar to how in the past few years of my journey with coming out to family and friends; many of my family and friends did not have anyone in their life that they were close to that was gay. However, with me sharing my stories, my struggles, my pain, they started to understand it. We NEED people like Mickey to share their stories, their struggles, their pain so that people can understand it. Because if we don't have close friends and family to share their experiences, we can't learn about how they experience life differently. [Also, not all black people have the same life experiences, so it is important to listen to multiple black stories, not just one. We all need more than just that one black friend.] Mickey writing, releasing, and performing a song like "Black Like Me" brings awareness to the issues at play today. No longer caring 'what color [people] are' does not bring awareness to these issues, it just ignores the issues and perpetuates the cycle. I hope that helps you understand a little better. Race and inequity in America is a complicated topic. I, or numerous other posters and friends here at Pulse, would be happy to discuss it further if you desire to continue to learn.

Lol I mean, not all people have the luxury of having beer and trucks as their top concerns... some people have deeper sh*t they have to deal with and Mickey is just bringing her (very needed) perspective to the country table

There is an EP titled "Mickey Guyton" showing up on her Spotify as released on Friday. It's both versions of BLM (I just realized "Black Like Me"'s abbreviation is BLM...how cool), Better Than You Left Me, WAYGTH?, Heaven Down Here, and the song from Breakthrough. Interesting that they put a small collection together like this... obviously in anticipation of her Grammy performance.
Also, when I last checked iTunes the Bridges EP was sitting at #2 right underneath...Morgan Wallen.
