I actually like cardigan so I'm happy it debuted at #1 and at least it's 3 women in the top 10 instead of two 😅.

It never occurred to me that the H100/BB200 debut in same week hadn't happened. It makes sense - surprised it didn't occur during the single 'repression' era from 1995-2010. I think it makes a lot of sense. When physical sales and then digital sales were very powerful, it wouldn't make sense to release a single and an album in the same week. The album sales would cannibalize the single sales unless the single offered something really unique the album couldn't offer. Furthermore labels wanted to spread out promotional opportunities and releases. In the streaming era, I can see some logic to releasing a lead single at the same time as an album as surprise releases have become a thing, but even that is still pretty unconventional.

I think it is somewhat of a surprise it never happened, considering albums have debuted at #1 with regularity nearly every week for nearly 30 years now.

I reckon it's impossible not to be happy for all the Taylor Swift success. Many thought her career was starting to lose steam but she sure proved them wrong with a brilliant album. Good on her, I say. I would love for "August" to be a single.

Savage Love is Jason Derulo's first top ten hit in 5 years. It would have been 3 years if Swalla hit the top ten in 2017.

Jason Derulo has also now earned a top 10 in 3 consecutive decades as Whatcha Say was a top 10 hit in 2009.

I'm amazed that Savage Love is a real hit, it seems like a bootleg tiktok remix or something, probably because it is.

So now that jason derulo, taylor swift and chris brown join the 3 consecutive decades club, who would be the next artist to join

Is it weird Jason Derulo having a top 10 in 2020? 3 decades! what a longevity for a "single" artist who didnt sell albums. While his late 00s male "single" artists peers like Taio Cruz and Jay Sean ended their career a decade ago. now Florida or Pitbull need a comeback too in 2020

I'm amazed that Savage Love is a real hit, it seems like a bootleg tiktok remix or something, probably because it is. someone said that it's a stolen hit,now that it's a remix.it's an original song...jason derulo is the writer of the song -wrote the lyrics-.. also jawsh 685 said that he didn’t expect the beat to be so focused on love as Jason Derulo MADE IT, but he said that is 'what collaboration is all about' ..

Radio impact was changed again. Blinding Lights went up 2%. I wonder if The Box went recurrent because of that, probably not quite

In the streaming era, I can see some logic to releasing a lead single at the same time as an album as surprise releases have become a thing, but even that is still pretty unconventional. You're correct. I was mostly referring to initial iTunes era, where it was even more common to repress to game the charts. I figured there had to be ONE instance where they held it to same day or an album track scored such high sales. Didn't 'Circus' debut at #3 because of album release? I'm pretty sure it wasn't released prior to album. The most bizarre example of a single being released the same week as parent album during that era: Madonna's "Frozen." I'm sure they were trying to prop albums sales and made the single available for H100 placement since physical was required at that time. And a lot of singles were issued in very limited quantities simply to chart. I figured if Frozen had been released 1/2 weeks in advance of RoL, it probably had an outside shot at #1.
