How does their popularity keep rising and their music stay so stagnant? They are Rascal Flatts 2.0 and somehow less interesting.
Yes, I'm still bitter they passed on releasing Keeping Score from their last album.

Okay, I learned how to play this on guitar and definitely enjoy it more, but mostly as a pop song. This one should be big over there, wouldn’t be surprised to see another country number 1 either.

I don't get the comparisons to Rascal Flatts at all. D&S are a snoozefest every song they release, with the exception of "Road Trippin'" which is a fantastic song. I don't find RF to be like that at all.

Yes, they really should go to bed and put their awful music to bed with them, not to mention their whiny and grating vocals.
I don't understand why they are even bothering with the country format anymore.... Hot AC or pop or whatever would be a better fit. Just get them off country plz.

Because they get hit after hit with that formula. I understand people don't think it's country (and for the most part, I can agree). But why would anyone stop doing what has been successful for them? If they can have a country him with Bieber, this won't have an issue either. And again, I can understand people being upset with it. But be upset with radio. Not the artists.

The music video is a cool concept and the styling of their wardrobe and the house were really visually appealing. It's too bad the song is the opposite and is totally uninteresting. Also finding it kinda amusing how universally disappointed everyone seems to be here on this one; like it seems to be generally agreed upon that this one is a snoozer.

If they can have a country him with Bieber, this won't have an issue either. And again, I can understand people being upset with it. But be upset with radio. Not the artists. I want to clarify that I meant 'they' more as in their whole team and label and stuff, not so much Dan + Shay as individual artists. I'm not upset with them specifically. I don't appreciate their artistry but don't have anything against them personally, or them recording the type of music they want to regardless of the genre. But I think they're still sending stuff to the country format simply because they started out as, and have been actively labeled as, county artists... sure, as long as they are getting hits with that formula in this format then I guess sure, keep going. That's probably where their label is at, too. But I can't imagine they wrote/recorded and their label pushed "I Should Probably Go To Bed" with their 'country roots' and the country format in mind... the genre has pretty loose standards on what it will play and promote, and what is and isn't country, but to me this song and their past few releases have indicated a definite change of direction to the Hot AC format at least, if not the Pop format. I would not be surprised if they officially "crossover" to those other formats and stop labeling themselves as country artists and stop sending their singles to country radio in the near future, much like Taylor Swift did back in the day. I personally hope that day is soon, as they and their music seem to definitely be headed in that direction anyway.

For some reason it bothers me we never really hear Dan, (he’s there just way in the background). It feels like the Shay show all the time, and I feel like he shows off his vocals to much, even on this song. If there was some added volume of substance being shown in the harmonies I would vibe more with them. Not feeling the instrumentation on the song either, to me this song could have been done better.

As a big fan and defender of them I gotta say this is a major disappointment. :(
There's things I like here, and that's a great music video, but this is easily their worst single and possibly song. It may grow on me a little but I'm not holding my breath on that one.
As for radio I can see them playing this but I don't think it will connect in any meaningful way.

This really is the most "Rascal Flatts" they've ever sounded. I had to remind myself several times that I wasn't listening to a Gary LeVox vocal.

I don't flat-out hate this like nearly all of y'all do, but I don't necessarily love it to death either. It's not a country song imo but I appreciate it for what it is--an HAC song with some cool production (sadly only at the end when it's too late), and some incredible vocals from Shay. Did you HEAR him go up into the rafters? That said, while I think it's pretty good and I wouldn't change the radio station or skip it on a playlist, it's 100% not something I'm going to be spinning constantly or seeking out.

To me that is the biggest sign that they are not even trying to be country with this release. Male falsetto to that extent is definitely NOT found in country music... You hear it all the time with male pop stars.

Not surprisingly, this is crossing over to pop - it goes for adds there on August 18.
As for the song itself, I didn't really care much for it - Dan + Shay have lost me over the course of the past year or so. I liked "Tequila" but "Speechless" just seemed like "Tequila 2.0" and then "All To Myself" only seemed like radio fodder to me. "10,000 Hours" I don't care for and now this one kind of continues their downward trend (at least for me). It's sad because I loved "From the Ground Up" and have enjoyed some of their other output in the past ("19 You + Me", "When I Pray For You", "How Not To" etc.).

Yeah, it's not uncommon for many duos to be happy having one of the two be the vocal forefront. The same method worked to great success for Brooks & Dunn, Sugarland, and most recently, Maddie & Tae. I think D+S probably prefer it this way.

I think their team is trying too hard to send them into a worldwide arena status, like Taylor Swift. It's clear that they don't want to stick to the country format only, they want to keep scoring hits on it so that anyone of their releases can chart in the Billboard Hot 100 and at the same time benefit of AC and Mainstream Top 40 Spins and exposure. They want Maroon 5 and Ariana Grande fans to go to their concerts. But really, the marketing and push behind them is getting annoying. It reminds me of when The Band Perry went yellow and released that stupid pop song that trashed their promising career. Dan and Shay were never country in the first place, and this is not a huge departure sonically for them. But it's still a song that has MARKETING written all over it, and even some of their hardcore fans will notice that nothing is genuine about this.

I went to their show in a Columbus at Nationwide Arena right before the shutdown and it was packed and loud as hell. They’re already at arena status. That building was insane the entire night.

I think it's funny that argument about Country/Pop with individual songs is still a thing as that line is nearly non-existent at this point. Any ballad is easily going to crossover and raise popularity and make more the label/band more money, so this is about the least surprising lead single possible. As for the song itself, I think it's middle of the road in terms of liking or disliking it on a couple listens. It's not a song I can sing along with due to the vocals, but the piano is interesting enough.

Callout scores are in and in a word I would say polarizing as this song has the highest Favorite, Negative, and Heavy Burn while also having the second lowest Net Positive (only Jon Pardi is lower).
I do find it funny how polarizing the callout scores for this are since this song just seems so boring to most here. You can definitely tell the callout is starting to affect this song as besides Kip Moore and the aforementioned Jon Pardi, "I Should Probably Go To Bed" has close to the lowest bullet in the Mediabase Top 30 of all the songs being promoted right now (singles from Dustin Lynch and Brothers Osborne are just barely below D/S at 93 and 92 respectively too D/S 96).

This is kinda crazy especially because I loved nearly all of their singles, especially since "Tequila", but this did the opposite of grow on me and now I actually hate it. This is probably my least favorite song in the entire top 50. I am glad pop radio paid it dust.

This is #14 on Billboard Country Airplay this week, it was #14 last week and it has been charting for 14 weeks. A bit of an interesting thing when a song has the same number across the board on the chart.
Anyway, I am still not really liking this song very much, it is just very boring.

As someone who is a fan of theirs this one does absolutely nothing for me. Hope their next single is more interesting.
