New Crop Of Women In Country That Needs More Radio Exposures

We are still seeing a lack of women represented on the charts since the 1990s when half the music charts reprented women. Even women with hits from the 1990s who released new material the last 10 years were also not played. Faith Hill, Reba McEntire, Trisha Yearwood and Shania Twain have hits the past decade while Tanya Tucker, Wynnona Judd, Mary Chapin-Carpenter, Roseanne Cash, Dolly Parton, Alison Kraus, Patty Loveless, Kathy Methea, Jessi Colter, Loretta Lynn and a few others that had number 1s in the past are not getting hits now. 
Right now we have Carrie Underwood, Maren Morris, Kelsea Ballerini and Mirnda Lambert have constent hits. Gabby Barrett, Ashley McBryde, Noah Cyrus, Ingrid Andress, Tennille Townes and Tenille Arts are just showing up. I will be updating this list for new up and coming artists to the country format.

Lori Mckennon, Lucinda Williams and a few others have been around for more than 10 years. Grace Porter, Edie Brickell and Rebecca St. James are just crossing genres. Both Grace and Edie are Americna country with Edie doing a bunch of duets with Willie Nelson. Grace Porter did a duet with Kenny Chesney several years ago that went number 1. Edie Brickell was with the New Bohemians out of Texas that had a one hit wonder on the pop charts with What I Am. Rebecca St. James is crossing over from Christian Country to the mainstream country radio.







If you know of anymore new female artists, post them here so that we can have them listed and check them out. We need to support more women in country when radio stations refuse to play more of them.

I had Kylie Frey down, but forgot about her. 

Sunny Sweeney hit the charts over 10 years ago with A Table Away. That is why I do not count her new since she already had a chart hit.

Carly is still new to the radio format like two or three years. Lauren and Raelyn been around 5 or more years. Yes, there are 15 with more than 5 years with experiences, but they were not main radio country either from sub-genres or from other genres. I could add Cyndi Lauper to this list, since she went country, but was a pop sweetheart in the 80s.

I think Cassadee Pope went the Kelly Clarkson route first releasing pop albums, not Country. She did do some duets, but her latest album is geared towards country.

Okay this whole list thing and who and who isn't on imo is dumb af. Can we just all agree that women should be played and in general it doesn't really matter who the woman is, and that woman who are signed to major labels are more likely to succeed.

cassadee pope has been around longer than Raelynn, she has 2 country albums and an EP, she also has a top 10 hit, she shouldn't be on the list either.

We should list ALL of them, because it's not like 1 radio hit and then falling off the face to the map means that they have had a huge career and are no longer deserving of radio exposure. Like, it might make sense to say that Reba McEntire doesn't need to be on this list after the career that she has had. But literally nobody that has been mentioned in this thread has had a big enough career to justify excluding them from this list.

I like the idea of having a comprehensive list of 'women you should check out' because there's a lot of names here I don't recognize that I might be inclined to look up out of curiosity, but nitpicking over who should be included based on how long they've been around or if they were pop first or not and whatever other arbitrary things seems pointless to me.

I did not put my high school friends group on this list since they had 3 minor hits on the country charts before 2010, and they crossed over from the Relgious charts. Three of the 4 founding members graduated my high school the same year I did. Only Denise Masters Jones is a friend from school.

Kathleen Edwards has been around for more than 10 years too. Also, maybe add Brandy Clark or Brandi Carlile - though Carlile isn't really country, I wouldn't say she's out of place. If adding those, maybe also Sarah Jarosz, Lydia Loveless and maybe Katie Pruitt. Lindi Ortega for sure.

While exploring these record labels' websites, I find so many of them. Sarah Jarosz, Lydia Loveless and Katie Pruitt along with Lindi Ortega call themselves country artists when they are labeled in a different chart. Americana Country, Alternative Country, Folk Country and others like that wind up on the Alternative or Rock Charts. That was what happened to Johnny Cash with Hurt. Even Kacey Musgraves is on the Alternative/Rock charts with "Oh What A World 2.0." We had those acts that reached the top 60 in the 80s. Nanci Griffith who charted in the 80s and 90s are like these ladies.

I am adding Gwen Stefani to this list. There is a hint from CMT's Top 20 Video Countdown where they interviewed Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani. There could be a future album of duets between the two, and she may do a country album. We really do need more women on country radio.
