Grew up drivin’ on black ice, Spinnin’ in circles under northern lights. Laughter steamin’, Small town dreamin’. Diggin’ tunnels in deep snow, Sheltered from the shiver of a ten-below, And I’m right at home.
2. "Northern Girl"
Track 4 Runtime: 3:51 Just because I won’t settle Don’t mean I won’t settle down. I don’t need a love that I can live with, I want the one I can’t live without.
1. "The One"
Track 3 Runtime: 3:46

I kinda figured "Northern Girl" would be the runaway obvious #1 on this album, so imagine my surprise to see it not even be a #1 contender aside from like one time near the beginning! The song was still a helluva competitor, grabbing onto #2 and keeping it on lock for the entire submission process once it got there, but it was never even close to overtaking "The One", which ended up being our runaway #1.
It seems most artists end up with a song celebrating where they grew up, and "Northern Girl" is Terri's contribution to that genre! And hers is an especially iconic standout due to the fact that it is about Canada! It could have easily been the sort of song to become a career song if it had come out a bit earlier in said career. It ended up being the biggest hit of the album on the Canadian country charts, peaking at #8.
"The One" is a song offering hope to single people everywhere, even in your 40s like Terri herself was at the time of writing this. So many love songs are about finding the one and getting all wrapped up in them, but this song is such a brilliant twist on a love song. It's a love song about wanting to fall in love, but also about being comfortable loving yourself. I'm glad to see this one join the winners, even if it came as a bit of a surprise to me!!!

While I slightly prefer Northern Girl over The One, this is a solid top 2! Northern Girl definitely has this "Canadian Country Vibe" which I rarely find even in Canadian Country singers, except for in Dean Brody's materials. The One has a very strong chorus melody, while the verse is a little weak.
Interesting that "Roots and Wings" was Terri's last successful album in terms of airplay chart runs, as she did not have any top 20 hits after this album (One Drink Ago was non-album single) and she never released as many as 4 singles from one album after this. The Highway is not even being sent to the radio as far as I know.

Looks like "Some Songs" peaked at #20, and then "Young As We Are Tonight" came suuuuuper close (#21), but you're right that this was her last album of consistent success, and top 10 hits.

Oh yeah, totally forgot about Some Songs lol. "Young as We Are Tonight" was a solid song, and I thought it helped her regain some momentum on the radio, so was kinda surprised that she faded away again without releasing a follow-up single from Raising the Bar.

Yeah, Terri is one artist where it almost feels like she is giving up on Canadian Radio quicker than Canadian Radio gave up on her. Like clearly her success was waning the last few eras, but for her to make a 13-song album and then not even release a followup single to a near top 20 hit that came on the heels of a top 3 collaboration just feels like her not really caring about radio anymore, lol. It seems apparent that she could still at least keep getting top 30 hits if she wanted to.

"Northern Girl" DESERVED, but "The One" is one of the highlights on this album as well so I guess it could've been worse. Y'all could've got "Smile" to the top somehow instead.

The top 2 are both great, so you can't really go wrong with either, but "Northern Girl" is probably my favourite Terri song, and so I was hoping that it would have been the winner. "The One" is also a great song, and a really interesting take on a love song, so it is at least a deserving winner.

This thread has been kinda quiet, but this Rankdown has not!!! After being open for a week, we are already at four participants! This thing is practically keeping pace with Carrie's album tracks! I don't expect the pace to continue, but it would sure be cool if it did ;) There are still four weeks to join in!Participants so far:1. tim2. Kanenrá:ke3. gardyfan4. someguy

I let the deadline pass by with no reminders and no fanfare other than a clandestine promise to 🌺CountryLineDancer that there would be more time given. I have been buried in George and Carrie reveals, plus trying to finish a class by the end of the month. Still, the turnout hasn't been bad, all things considered! I figured I should take a quick break to update this thread though, and assign a new deadline.
This album will now be due next Wednesday, August 4th! That will place it exactly one week after the New Country Releases deadline, which is this Wednesday. That means you have about 9 more days to get this album done if you want to join :) Participants so far:1. tim 2. Kanenrá:ke 3. gardyfan 4. someguy 5. ccarter1023 6. ClevelandRox 7. castleoblivion26 8. Cody Wants Out... 9. bboat11

Terri Clark Rankdown: Results Time!
Final Participant List: (13)1. tim 2. Kanenrá:ke 3. gardyfan 4. someguy 5. ccarter1023 6. ClevelandRox 7. castleoblivion26 8. Cody Wants Out... 9. bboat11 10. 🌺CountryLineDancer 11. .indulgecountry 12. codyj100 13. taylor Sorry for the little delay getting this one started! I finished my master's degree right at the turn of the month which kept me away from here for most of the last week of July, and then I had to take a trip home to visit family, which kept me away from here for most of the first week of August. Now I'm trying to get back on track! It is time for this one to begin reveals, but first I'll allow some time for anyone who wants to to make predictions! I'll plan to finish my list for 1990 Country this afternoon and then reveal this one if there's time, but if there's not time I'll definitely start it tomorrow!
Questions to get us started:
1) What will win?
2) What will be last place?
3) Which songs will be in the top 5?
4) What song will be most polarizing? Least polarizing?
5) Which of the singles will place highest? Where will it place? (Better Things To Do, When Boy Meets Girl, If I Were You, Suddenly Single)
6) Which of the singles will place lowest? Where will it place?
7) Which album tracks would you prefer to see do well?
8) Any other thoughts/predictions?

Five people lose their last place with our first elimination, the rocking suspicious lover anthem "Was There A Girl On Your Boys' Night Out". Despite the fact that it had the most last places of anything else on the album, this was actually not a last place contender until the final couple of lists! Our battle for last place was VERY close, and not because there were multiple bad songs, but because the album is overall so consistent in quality! WTAGOYBNO is catchy, and the lyrics are fun, and vocally this is right in Terri's wheelhouse. It's just one of those songs that gets lost in the shuffle on an album this strong!
