I used to think it was all in the drink. It made him the way that he was. He swore he’d change, poured it all down the drain, And finally he’d given it up. But tonight in the kitchen I sat there and listened To words he could never take back. I didn’t see no Jack or Jim Beam. He was drinkin’ his coffee black.

In what is probably no surprise whatsoever to anyone who knows how these album rankdowns always seem to turn out, "I Wish He'd Been Drinkin' Whiskey" bows out next, leaving the two remaining singles to be our top 2.
What is a bit more of a surprise to me, however, is that this song managed to hang on past both "Bigger Windows" and "Life Goes On" to be the highest album track!!! I figured it would finish in the middle, like around #6 or #7. But alas, it settled in comfortably at #4, and maintained a strong enough presence to steal the top album track honors from "Life Goes On" at the last second!!! You won't hear anything more than superficial complaints from me though, because this song absolutely slays!! It is definitely one of the shining ballads on this album. The lyrics especially offer a really unique perspective on alcoholism. You spend years wishing for somebody you love to stop drinking, only for them to sober up, leave you, and make you wish that they were still drinking so that you could convince yourself that they didn't actually mean it...
It's a real punch in the gut if you think about it too hard. And of course another perfect vocal from Terri elevates it even further. This'll be a fun one to watch in the album tracks rd, because it isn't as flashy or obvious of a favorite as something like "Life Goes On" or "Bigger Windows", but still absolutely deserves to be there!

Well the first three songs pretty much went out n the opposite order that I thought they would, but I’m pleasantly surprised to see “I Wish He’d Been Drinkin’ Whiskey” make the top 3 as I felt like I underranked that song a bit. I probably should’ve put that in my top five, but that just goes to show you the overall strength of the record.
I agree that the title track was the biggest missed single opportunity, especially when compared to what they chose instead. I thought for sure this would be the highest album track, but nonetheless it came quite close.
No surprise with the top two and I’m pretty sure we all know what to expect from here.

We went together like highways and T-birds, Saturday sinners and Sunday church, and Lookin’ back and cryin’ and laughin’ at the life between us two, We went together like memories and long gones, Cowboys and sad old songs. After all of the holdin’ on tight that we went through, You’re damn right I’m gonna miss you.
2. "Damn Right"
Track 2 Runtime: 4:02 Songwriters: Julian Gallagher, Craig Wiseman
She got a sitter and she got a job, ‘Cause she had a promise to keep. Her day was a factory, and evenin’ survival, And night was exhaustion and sleep. Sometimes she felt life was passin’ her by And watchin’ was all she could do. Her friends said, “You gotta get out of the house, And maybe you’ll meet someone new.”
She could’ve tried, But she didn’t have time. She had a five year old to feed, She had ballet class, piano lessons, and t-ball little league. She could’ve laid awake for hours Givin’ lonely nights the power, But she didn’t have time.
1. "She Didn't Have Time"
Track 3 Runtime: 3:22 Songwriters: Pat Bunch, Nicole Witt

I really hate that song, and I am not surprised it ended her career in the US. Not surprised it won though and happy for all of you that love it!!
But Damn Right is AMAZING!!

I dunno, if you look at the chart history, it looks more like "Damn Right" ended her career in the U.S.

And there you have it!! After all these years, "She Didn't Have Time" FIIIIIIINNNNAAAAAAAAALLY wins a rankdown!!! This song can absolutely be filed away in the drawer of her most influential hits, despite the fact that label troubles thwarted its chart run just before it hit the top 20. The emotions that this song portrays are very unique for Terri, which I think helps it to occupy a very special and important niche in her catalog. "Damn Right" is an absolute blast!!! I looooove the feel of this song!! It has such an electric energy to it, from the arrangement to the melody to the performance. It is such a perfect song, and there is absolutely NO reason why it deserved to not even chart on country radio... The good news is, it is not a big enough hit to have been helped much by single bias here, so its top 2 finish here is based almost completely on its own merits and strengths as a song!! This is now 2 rankdowns in a row where "Damn Right" has finished at #2, so it'll be interesting to see how it does in the next Revenge of the Best rankdown I wish it could have won the 2004-2006 Flops of Country Radio rankdown, because I was NOT expecting it to get as close as it did!!! And that rankdown didn't have "She Didn't Have Time" standing in the way!!

It's about damn time "She Didn't Have Time" finally got paid its dues!!!!! It's going to be lovely seeing this in BotB 5 Now as for austin...girl wth?!?!
"Bigger Windows" is incredible. I would've loved to see that in the Top 3, but at least it made it to the Top 5 and the album tracks Rankdown so I'm happy with its finish! Thanks for hosting bboat11 and I'm excited to dive into this series and submit at the 11th minute of the 11th hour!

Obvious winner is obvious but "She Didn't Have Time" is the best single of her career. It should've been a #1 smash and revitalized her career at radio, especially with so many potential follow-up hits that Life Goes On offered. It's a shame that "Damn Right" did as poorly as it did at radio and that was it for the album era ("Slow News Day" was released in Canada but what a waste that was, lol).

For our next album, we are going to fast forward nearly 10 years to one of her more recent releases! Some Songs was a big deal a few years back on Pulse, because it was Terri's first album of original material since 2011 (she did release a covers album in 2012 too, but us fans were HUNGRY for new music!!) I jammed so hard to this album when it came out!!! After feeling like her post-U.S. efforts kinda started losing the edge that made her early albums so great, this album dropped and proved to me that the old Terri was indeed still alive and well! Yes the instrumentation is fresher and modernized, but the biting attitude of "Poor Poor Pitiful Me", "Emotional Girl", "I Just Wanna Be Mad", and "Better Things To Do" is on full display in songs like "I Cheated On You" and "Just Add Water". This album is shorter than any of her others, but it is a work of art. I'm eager to see y'all's thoughts on it!

Random factoid, but this album era just happened to coincide with my tragically brief stint at making a personal chart! I was too late to chart the first two singles ("Some Songs" and "Longer"), but they would have both been #1s for sure (If I had to guess now I would say probably 3 weeks for "Some Songs" and two for "Longer").
The rest of the era looked like this: -"I Cheated On You" - Peak: #1 (2 weeks) -"Just Add Water" - Peak: #1 (1 week) -"Feelin' Pretty Good Right Now" - Peak #3 -"Don't Start" - Peak #15
And then I was just deliberating what to release next when my chart ended :( Still, I'd say this album had a pretty great run on my chart!!! 😂

I am SO excited to be finally starting this album series, and especially for us to dive into the results of such a perfect album as this one I'm really hopeful that some of you will be sharing your thoughts as we go along, so it's not just me having a one-man Terri Clark stan-fest I could rant for hours about how great she is! But I'm much more interested in hearing what y'all think, especially because her albums will be new discoveries for so many of you! Edit: I mean, we all know that our alleged biggest Terri Clark fan Kanenrá:ke will not be commenting on anything until 2-3 weeks after the rankdown is finished So I need to rely on the rest of you even more! You know me so well friend! :) Now some real surprises in what you guys did to her 2nd best album! I was fully expecting "Travelin' Soul" to be in the bottom half, but never ever would've guessed it'd be in last place!! I always thought Terri just brings the lyrics to life so much here, I practically feel myself being lost in it. Beautiful melody as well. I always wanted a music video for this one. I do tend to favor ballads for most artists, and a big part of what I love about Terri is that she makes me love her uptempos just as much! However despite that being true, and many considering this one of her best albums for uptempos... I actually prefer the ballads here for the most part. This is why my list had "Honky Tonk Song", "Tear It All Down", "Cowboy Days" and "Bigger Windows" as my bottom 4. Adore 3 of the 4 so it's not me not loving them, it's just me loving everything else as well. Now "Bigger Windows" is one that just never clicked with me. I can't really explain why, I almost want to say the melody, but it's not just that. It's actually pretty close to the bottom for me for Terri overall. "Everybody's Gotta Go Sometime" to me always felt fresh for her. It was uptempo but didn't to me feel like the other uptempos on the album so for me it just stood out. "Not Enough Tequila" and "I Wish He'd Been Drinkin' Whiskey" are both amazing. Tequlia was one of my first introductions to Erin Enderlin's songwriting, which is under appreciated. I feel she should be up there with Lori McKenna or Brandy Clark as one of the best singer-songwriters of her time. Her level of details in her songs I always found so relatable. "Whiskey" is a gut punch of a song, and I always though was one of Terri's fines interpretations of a lyric. "Damn Right" not getting to reach it's full potential will always bother me as Terri exited the label a few weeks after it went to radio, I don't think we can really call it a flop as radio never got a chance to take to it. Great tune that fits Terri like a glove, Brooks & Dunn have a version of it as well and it shows just how great Terri was with this type of material when you compare the versions. B&D sound lifeless next to her. "She Didn't Have Time" is my #2 Terri song, so it being my #1 here was a foregone conclusion and I'm so glad this song connects so well to most of you. I'm not much of a gusher with my favorites which is weird, so I won't say much more. But know this one holds a very special place in my heart that I actually don't think I can put into words. It's practically a part of me at this point. Thanks bboat11 for hosting this first album, and I'm hoping I can be a little more involved in the rest of the reveals!

Sorry I didn't post any reminders for the entire 2 weeks leading up to the deadline for this one You guys haven't done that bad though, considering I have done almost zero promotion! We already have 7 participants! I will be extending this, of course, so that we can welcome in a few more participants as well as have consistent reminders.
I don't want to push it all the way into November, but we also have the September New Releases rd due in a week... So let's give you another week and a half to do this one! The new deadline will be Thursday October 29 :)

I love Terri, but only actively listened to her first few albums up until the early 2000s so I'mma have to pass unfortunately :( I'll try to give the album a listen and if I'm into it I'll do my best to throw a list in.
