I have to agree that this was alright, but on an album this strong just wasn’t quite up to par.

And just like that, things fly off the rails. This song was great and deserved much better. </3

And there goes the last place for four more people. "The Inside Story" was our last place contender for nearly the entire submission process, until the multiple high ranks from people like .indulgecountry and taylor right at the end helped it to climb out of the bottom I have always loved this one, which goes without saying because I love everything Terri does, lmao. But I feel like the piano riff that happens throughout this one gives it a memorable identity. I definitely didn't have it pegged as a last place contender! This is the song after which I named the whole album series (see graphic below), so it was low-key hilarious to me that it was about to be y'all's least favorite song on the album {Spoiler}

Better late than never!
1) What will win? I’d be shocked if it wasn’t “Better Things to Do”
2) What will be last place? I’m not sure what I would’ve predicted here, but seeing how both “Was There a Girl on Your Boys’ Night Out” and “The Inside Story” were in my bottom 2, I likely would’ve selected one of these two. I just happened to have these flipped in the order they went out.
3) Which songs will be in the top 5? “Better Things to Do” and “When Boy Meets Girl” in the top 2 followed by “If I Were You”, “Suddenly Single”, and “Is Fort Worth Worth It”.
4) What song will be most polarizing? When We Had It Bad welp that didn't age well Least polarizing? Better Things to Do
5) Which of the singles will place highest? Where will it place? Better Things To Do and When Boy Meets Girl in the top two
6) Which of the singles will place lowest? Where will it place? If I Were You and Suddenly Single will likely round out the top 4, but if not definitely still in the top 5
7) Which album tracks would you prefer to see do well? “Is Fort Worth Worth It” for sure; other than that one “Catch 22” and “Tyin’ a Heart to a Tumbleweed”

I really was unsure of what to expect for the middle part of this album, so "Flowers After the Fact" exiting in the bottom 3 isn't necessarily unexpected. Nonetheless, I think it's kind of a jam myself.

We round out our bottom 3 with "Flowers After The Fact". This one doesn't have any last place losses, although three perfect rankings belong to castleoblivion26, Cody Wants Out..., and 🌺CountryLineDancer. I have always considered this song and "Was There A Girl On Your Boys' Night Out" to be pretty interchangeable. They are kinda similar melodically and structurally and conceptually. They are the two songs on this album that I would consider to be closest to "filler", so I am glad to see them both among the songs that miss the album tracks rankdown. Everything else that's left is a bit more unique to me!

Apparently we consider this to be a front-loaded album overall, as our bottom 4 has consisted of the final four tracks on the album. "Something You Should've Said" is the album closer, and while it had a pretty easy time staying ahead of the bottom 3, it was never going to do any better than the bottom half of the top 10. This song is one of many Terri Clark songs that has a super catchy baritone guitar riff giving the song an immediately recognizable personality, which I have said many times is one of my favorite unique things about her artistry!
This is the first song that we get to welcome to the album tracks rankdown!

"Tyin' A Heart To A Tumbleweed" is one that struggled but then managed to make a bit of a recovery. Receiving five bottom 2 ranks held it back for awhile and even brought it into the overall bottom 2 at one point, but the six top 5 ranks helped to cancel them all out so that its final placement ended up being somewhere in the middle. I have always really liked the Wild West, desert imagery in this song. "So I'll make a wish beneath the desert moon," "I could fashion some fences that might hold him in," and of course the hook about tying a heart to a tumbleweed is just a fantastic image. On top of that there's the explosive chorus contrasted with the subdued verses, which in the hands of Terri's capable vocals and with a slightly echoey lonely production allows the yearning emotions of this song to sit front and center and jump out at the listener. I'm surprised this was as polarizing as it was! It will be interesting to see how this does in the album tracks rd

We have seen a few top 4 losses so far with nearly every reveal, but with "Catch 22" codyj100 is our first participant to lose a top 3 and Kanenrá:ke is the first to lose a top 2! This song is just like you would expect. It highlights catch 22 situations in life, like the fact that farmers have to raise crops to make money, but the more crops they raise the more the price drops due to the economics of supply and demand. It's a unique premise for a song, and it is pretty catchy! Although it makes for more of a list song rather than a song that actually says anything. This was on pace to be a top 5 contender for much of the submission period, only stumbling back to #7 with the last handful of lists.

For our final track to miss the top 5, we say goodbye to our first single!!! "Suddenly Single" was the fourth and final single from this album, and proved to be a bit of a flop following up the super successful string of mega-hits "Better Things To Do", "When Boy Meets Girl", and "If I Were You". At least as far as American country radio is concerned! This only peaked at #34 here, but I am just noticing that it barely missed the top 10 in Canada, so I guess it got the job done somewhere! I LOVE the way this song is written! The story about how the man walks into a bar, slips off his wedding ring, thereby becoming "suddenly single" so he can hit on women without them thinking he's married, is well written in and of itself, but then to top it all off there's the TWIST!!! When he gets home, he realizes his wife has left him, so he really IS suddenly single!! The sweet sweet karma as his world crumbles around him is delightful to behold, and as a listener this is a very satisfying story to listen to Unfortunately the melody also tends to plod a bit for me, so it doesn't lend itself to repeat listens the way that most of her hits do :( That's undoubtedly how some others feel as well, leading to it missing out on the top 5 here.

While this isn't going quite as I predicted it would , I did have a hunch that if "When We Had It Bad" made it into the top 5 that "Suddenly Single" would be on the outs. I really had no idea that the former was such a favorite, but in relistening to it again I can see why y'all might enjoy it. For whatever reason, it has just never been on my radar after all of these years as I've always gravitated more towards "Catch 22" and "Is Fort Worth Worth It".
As for how the top 5 will play out, I still think the three remaining singles will land inside the top 3 leaving the two albums tracks exiting first. Let's give this guessing game another whirl shall we:
5. When We Had It Bad 4. Is Fort Worth Worth It 3. If I Were You 2. When Boy Meets Girl 1. Better Things to Do

It's amazing and I am so sad to see that it missed top 5 here and even more sad to be reminded it was freakin' bottom 10 in her singles RD. Tragic.

I've got a funeral to go to tomorrow, and then I'm driving across the state because my 10 year class reunion is on Saturday, so we're just gonna knock this one out completely today! I won't be on here much the next couple days, and when I am on here I want to start revealing Reba!!

I myself still don’t quite hear why this is a favorite as it seems like album filler to me, but it leaving first in the top 5 isn’t that all surprising given the strength of what’s left.

Similar to tim, I had no real expectation of "When We Had It Bad" being well-loved enough to make the top 5, but I can totally hear why it would! This is one of those songs that could have finished anywhere from about #5 to #10 without me being too surprised either way. Lmao it's just a solid song, that doesn't really stand out all that much alongside the amazing singles on this album, but still stands out as a strong song when listened to on its own merits.
