Artist: Miranda Lambert Single: "Settling Down" Writers: Miranda Lambert, Luke Dick, Natalie Hemby Album: Wildcard Label: RCA Nashville/Vanner Records Impact Date: September 21, 2020
Apparently she's already confirmed this is the third single from Wildcard on radio recently, though there's been nothing official posted online and it obviously hasn't been sent to radio... but I think her saying it herself is reliable enough and I rarely get to make threads so I'm taking it, lol.

I forgot about this song, and I was ready to say Tequila Does, Dark Bar, or Track Record should have been a single instead, but this song is not bad. Not as good as those 3 or last 2 singles, but still good enough to add to my playlist. But, yeah, this single decision makes me wonder why they chose a song that is the 4th most unpopular song from Wildcard on iTunes.

This song feels safe and middling. It doesn’t scream smash nor flop, it’s just there. I personally think they could’ve gone with a stronger follow up (which is literally half of the other songs on the album lol) but I don’t think this will do bad.
At this point, I’m just going to get on my knees and pray with my fingers crossed that Tequila Does becomes the fourth and final single. That one is begging for a release!

This is a pretty good song but I was hoping for “Tequila Does”. I think they could still go with that one as the fourth single if this one is a hit.

I like it, but it's not a particularly strong single choice. It's just kind of.. pleasant.

This screams "To Hell & Back" to me... Same tempo as the previous single and has fairly similar sounds/content that I worry might flop.
That being said, I LOVE this song and will be streaming the heck out of it. It's an okay single choice... as long as "Tequila Does" comes next.

I can't help but seeing this struggling big time and killing her momentum once again. What a shame (I hope I am wrong).

I don't see the comparison to "To Hell & Back" personally. This doesn't scream smash like some of the other options on the record, but it feels like a safe non-polarizing choice for radio and that's certainly not a bad thing for her at this point after "Bluebird" got her back to the top of the charts, and it's still miles more radio-ready than Maren's song. I would've gone with "Mess with My Head" because I think it screams smash and would probably sell/stream well, but "Settling Down" sounds like it would be good fall/winter programming for country radio and I can imagine it testing better than some of the other options she has on the record. It feels like a bit of an extension of the same warm, fuzzy vibes we just got with her last single that went over so well for her in these current times, so I think this is still in the top half of selections for singles she could've made. She can pick the tempo back up with a more 'exciting' pick in 2021 when the weather warms up and maybe by then COVID-19 will be less of a burden on everything, too.

This seems like a smart choice to me simply because it's not risky. She's got a lot of momentum right now, this should be another hit maybe not huge but I don't see radio ignoring this one. Then something that will make more impact and get people's attention for 4th and final single (Tequila or Dark).
I'm excited for this too just because it's so damn catchy!

This is such a catchy little jam. Hoping it smashes. Radio are you settlin up or settlin down. It better be up.

This is pleasant and radio friendly enough I guess, but not sure if I see it connecting in a big way. Would have preferred to see admittedly the bigger risk in “Tequila Does”, but it’s a much better song.

I personally was hoping for "Dark Bars" upon seeing the lyric video, or maybe "Track Record," but this is a fine single choice. It's safe which is perfect since she just got a #1 finally. I hope this does well and sends her right back there.

I probably would’ve picked “Track Record” if they wanted something safe, but this is good too! I think “Settling Down” is another top 10 for Miranda.
Hoping for “Tequila Does” for single #4 tho! 🤞

Not one of my favorites from the album, but it is also a good single choice. I hope this still performs well for her.

I love this song, honestly, and in my first few days with Wildcard I saw it as the most likely hit after 'Bluebird' so I am not shocked they went with it. As I have grown with the album, it has fallen down my list a little but I think its going to hit.
I agree with everyone that it's not going to be a career hit but I don't see it flopping like her singles from the double disc lullaby album she had out last.
It's definitely not "To Hell and Back" as it's not boring and Miranda also hasn't released three ballads in a row like Maren has.

Disappointed that they passed on "Tequila Does" and "Track Record". This one is fine, but doesn't really move the needle for me. It should have no trouble getting to the teens on the chart, but it'll be interesting to see if it has the support to go further.

I'm not a Miranda fan in general, but I loved "Bluebird" and I also like this. Two good songs in a row for me.

In my opinion this is by far the best song on the album. The melody is absolutely intoxicating.
Really happy to see this after Bulebird which I found to be really grating (I appreciate the sentiment but lyrically it really is just a bunch of vague platitudes and I found the production on it particularly in terms of percussion to be annoying)

I was feeling a bit disappointed when I first learned of this being released as the next single, but I think that has more to do with the fact that it's looking as though there's going to be some great songs that won't see a release. I personally was rooting for "Track Record" as the next single as it's been a standout and a favorite of mine since I first heard it. And while "Dark Bars" remains one of the best songs on the album overall I think it would still be considered a risky choice.
I've spun this song a few times today already and I'm feeling a bit better about its release, so here's hoping Miranda is able to snag another top ten by years end!

Not really feeling this one as a single, but fingers crossed it turns into another hit. I see it peaking about top 10 at best, but hopefully I'm wrong.

I think Track Record is the best song on the album & a big fave -- but the subject matter is what kept them from sending it to country radio (after Vice). Settling Down is, like a lot of people said... safe.

Forgot to mention it on here, but I heard this on the radio last week already and it sounded amazing, and the radio PDs were saying positive things about it.

That's good to hear ^. I'm just kinda baffled at why Sony has waited so long to announce and have it impact since this hasn't been the case before & Aug/earlier Sept haven't been crowded by any means. Maybe they're timing it with something else.

Maybe they're timing it with something else. Label schedules are why, usually. It's not just artists but their promotion staff schedules as well. The impact date was a week earlier but they changed it to September 21st. The haven't formally released it yet to radio but that should be this week or next is my bet.
