That’s true but all 3 of those songs will not even be remembered in a year. “Drunk and I don’t want to go home” is gonna be a monster hit! “Settling Down” is also a moderate hit for Miranda....It didn’t flop and will finish with a top 5 peak. I’m pretty sure Lauren Alaina, Mickey Guyton and others would kill for a top 5. Which kind of proves even more why "Drunk" shouldn't be affecting "Settling Down" at all. Why let 3 mediocre, forgettable songs featuring the same person co-exist in the top 20 but kill off a good, moderate hit just to let a potentially even bigger hit move into the top 40? If both songs were top 10 at the same time, I could maybe see an argument to siphon spins from "Settling Down" to give to "Drunk", but the latter is just reaching the top 40. Radio can continue to increase "Settling Down" for another month to get it to #1. But how many stations have already dropped "Settling Down"?

It's quite obvious that this isn't hitting #1 anymore, but it's ridiculous that stations have felt the need to take spins away from "Settling Down", or drop it from their playlists completely, in order to play "Drunk" more. They shouldn't be mutually exclusive, but apparently many stations are treating it as such.

The website for K102 says "Drunk" is their 8th-most played song, but they're still showing "Settling Down" as #26 on their 'Top Songs' so they evidently cut back on its spins, but it doesn't appear that they've "dropped" it?

They must have added it back as a few weeks ago it was 45. I don't listen 24/7 but I have not heard it once since they added "Drunk", which was well before anyone.

This song does not deserve all this drama. lol I never wanted it as a single but I'm happy it was as successful.

Since "Settling Down" was able to re-gain its bullet on today's update and will be #5 on the final update, do we think that Miranda will be #1 by the end of the month?

She's still a good distance from Chase Rice/FGL and, she is still looking to be pushed before Cole Swindell and she is over 2000 spins behind him on Mediabase.

How did that Chase song get a bullet of over a thousand 😂 Great testing, radio loves the song, and their are a mountain of spins to be given out since Jordan Davis began freefalling this week. That's how.

At least this isn’t dead. Hope it can peak somewhere in the top 40 of the hot 100 when it’s all said and done. That would make the fact it’ll probably miss #1 less bad.

How did that Chase song get a bullet of over a thousand 😂 It was converted into heavier rotation by corporate radio this past week and the huge decline in spins by “Almost Maybes” and “Gone” helped. The song is testing well and it’s not surprising it would do well, but it’s normal for a bullet of that size to come to a song that is on the cusp of the top 5 or 10. There are only so many spins that stations can give to these singles (they need to spin enough recurrents and gold titles — they’re the songs listeners know the best, which is good for business), so when songs test well and there’s an influx of singles declining rapidly in spins, corporate programmers love giving the spins to those kind of singles. I’m not a fan of the song either, but it makes sense why it’s a hit.

She said on Lon her next single will be from a new album. Then when Lon brought up Luke C. she said they’d recently wrote a song together. He pressed her and she got coy and said, “more to come I’ll tell you when I can.” 🤨🤷🏻♀️

While many would have loved for Tequila Does to have gone to radio I think this is the smartest decision. She has more radio momentum now than she has in a very long time with Bluebird, Settling Down, and Drunk.

She has more radio momentum now than she has in a very long time with Bluebird, Settling Down, and Drunk. I agree. After “Drunk” smashes the way I know it will, she’ll have had three major back to back hits in a row, which is just unheard of in the context of her career. This momentum is going to propel radio’s excitement for ML9 (I’m counting Marfa as technically her eighth album, so in my mind her next album is her ninth) and lead to a HUGE lead single especially if it’s the right song.

She's getting cancelled on Twitter for recording "Tequila Does" and opening Casa Rosa in Nashville. I guess she laughed about a border patrol plane too.

She's getting cancelled on Twitter for recording "Tequila Does" and opening Casa Rosa in Nashville. I guess she laughed about a border patrol plane too. "Tequila Does" came out almost 2 years ago now and it's the highest impact non-single cut from the album because it was popular and blew up on apps like TikTok, and the border patrol helicopter flew overhead during the recordings used on The Marfa Tapes and she laughed because they were out in the fields making a stripped down album and that sound is now forever part of the finished track. The Casa Rosa bar was a whole big nothingburger, too. I'd hardly call any of this grounds for cancellation and I don't think it'll have any effect on her if a few dozen liberal sjws on Twitter complain about these things. She'll be fine, lol.

It took me a really long time to find any of the tweets you're talking about. It's more like one or two people making comments, not a mass cancelation effort.

I knew that couldn't actually be happening (there's hateful comments on Twitter on a daily basis for everyone under the sun so if a handful of those is all it takes for 'cancellation' to occur...) to an effect that was actually meaningful or noteworthy.

I mean, I didn't say it was a major controversy. But she's always had this backing of liberal Nashville journalists behind her, and now multiple of them are labeling her a 'cultural appropriator' and calling her out for supporting Morgan Wallen. You also have artists like Mickey Guyton and Leah Turner acknowledging it.
Obviously this isn't going to affect her career - but I feel like she's losing a sub-section of those Twitter country music journalist types. You know the ones who vote in the Nashville Scene best-of lists and all of that.

I think that type of interaction and discussion is important. It's healthy for the genre to be questioning both big and small topics - whether a white woman should open a bar called Casa Rosa or whether they should allow a slur hurler back into the game.

But she's always had this backing of white liberal Nashville journalists behind her, and now multiple of them are labeling her a 'cultural appropriator' and calling her out for supporting Morgan Wallen. You also have artists like Mickey Guyton and Leah Turner acknowledging it. Which ones? I’ve seen her white (women) journalists being silent as usual on all issues concerning her. Black and Latino artists and writers have called her out though.

This is completely besides the point but when I think of Miranda Lambert controversy I just think of when I heard of her dumping a salad on a women at a restaurant (this happened right?)

It’s two journalists who are mad at miranda for commenting that she co-wrote Morgan’s song on Instagram and decided to take it on the two year old tequila does. And if you’re Latina and tell either of those two journalists you’re not offended by the song they’ll block you. 😀 I hope they enjoy the remix 😂
