but it's not fans buying 4 copies they have an organisation collecting funds and then mass-buying thousands of hundreds of copies, that's 1000% illegal in my view All artists have fan organizations who do this.

^ Yes, and thatโs the problem. Funds like that decrease the accuracy of the chart.
I canโt be too mad, as of course stuff like this is bound to happen. They found a good way to play the game. Itโs now up to Billboard to figure out how to solve this.
Props to BTS though. Hoping this second week will give them stability at radio.

I try to give them the benefit of doubt, but they make it sooooo hard. It's time to start calling Billboard anti hip-hop and anti-black. This took me out! โ ๏ธ OT: The rightful song will be back where it belongs next week! ๐๐ฟ

iggyamo- Billboard now has a separate R&B Songs chart, and it's had a rap chart for a number of years. The overall R&B/hip-hop chart does house both genres, though among all of those since ~2012, to me, R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay is one I look to most, as I don't like that the genre charts switched to follow the Hot 100 methodology (especially the inclusion of airplay from formats that aren't that particular genre). I was just really confused by the combined hot hip-hop/R&B chart existing.

^Hip-hop was added to main R&B chart's title in the late '90s. The R&B charts have had a number of changes to their titles through the years.

Been a lurker on this site for a while and this is my first time posting here so here we go...
Yes, I agree that Billboard should take a look at how much this is impacting the charts. I mean, its more likely other fandom will follow suit and follow their lead. On twitter right now where I also lurk, one of their biggest fan account which has 1.1 M followers is having a buy party for the group and fans are giving screen shots of them buying 4 copies each of all versions of the song... they are tracking how many are bought and from their tweet they bought 3000 copies in total. That's how organized they are...
I do like the song but I am finding the method already too crazy and blatant to secure another week at #1... But hey, hate the game not the player as they say

I was just really confused by the combined hot hip-hop/R&B chart existing. The whole reason they were combined is because the lines between the two genres became very blurred in the 90s, and continue to be today. Rappers on R&B songs, R&B hooks on rap songs, R&B singers singing melodies over hip-hop production, etc. There's really no way for Billboard to win. "Black" was racist, "Urban" is now frowned upon, so they just do their best with genres based on the industry at the time. It's very tricky. -- This whole song sales situation being discussed is another example of the charts' ongoing (and inevitable) imperfections, but it's also really hard for me to argue that sales shouldn't count as much, if not more, than streams, regardless of their "relevance" in how most consume music. It's ultimately a bu$ine$$, and when consumers are willing to shell out money for one or 10 copies of their fave's output, it is what it is. The only difference between decades ago and now is the Streaming component, which acts as some kind of consumption truth-teller, at least in the eyes of many. But even that is manipulated to some degree, soooo the wheels on the bus go round and round until you realize later in life that it's not that serious. It's all a game, and as much as I love the charts, most people don't care at all. And I care far less than I used to. It's just fun to observe. Getting upset about it like it affects OUR lives is a bit ridiculous at the end of the day. Billboard has always done their best, but it's never going to be good enough for everyone.

Crazy chart year indeed with all those #1 debuts then BTS with a #1 debut and NOT dropping on Week 2!
I used to be pretty dismissive of BTS, that they are just a product of hype, but admittedly they have really gotten bigger over the years and had a legit penetration in the US market which is definitely not easy to do. Even popular UK/Irish boybands of the past had a hard time cracking the US market like Westlife that just had one top 20 single in the US despite being massively popular in the UK and Asia 20 years ago.
I get the annoyance because it is still fandom driven but their team really played the chart game right this time.
Anyway, will any of the BTS members go for the required Korean 2-year military training anytime soon? I wonder if there's gonna be a hold back if ever because the momentum is so high right now for them to take a break or to continue on with some members on hiatus

The fans were more than prepared to buy Dynamite, and every version even if it were not discounted. It was nice that itโs .69 for each version but at the end of the day, theyโd still buy it. I agree they still would've bought it. But because there was 6 or 7 versions and they were all so cheap, it produced more sales.

From what I read, one of their members is supposed to go this year but their label maybe able to delay it until next year at least. Also, I think there is currently a legislature in SK to at least delay it further those that are impacting or helping the economy of SK through the arts.. I believe the current exceptions or those that are not required are Gold Medalist but I won't be surprised if the government enacts something given how huge a boost to the economy they have been....

Yes. I mean the fandom also regularly holds streaming parties for crying out loud. As someone who is a statistics/number nerd, looking and tracking the music charts is just pure fun for me, not to be taken seriously....

I understand there's a chart formula that may not be as balanced, or weighted as it should be. But I really do not see this as being different as fans buying 4 copies of the same album that counts for the Hot 100, or an artist releasing a regular version, deluxe version and Target version and fans buying all three. While sure, the chart isn't so much about "popularity" this still is about "consumption." The digitla sales number, in my mind, is much more fair than bundles where songs and/or albums get tacked onto merchandise. Sure, BTS facilitated this with the amount of different versions of the song, but their fanbase consumed THE MUSIC up. Well you can by 24 copies for the price of 1 album, so yeah, this is definitely more extreme than buying multiple copies of an album...

Nothing against BTS, but WAP is definitely the biggest song in the country right now. It should be #1.
Dynamite being #1 again this week once again doesn't reflect what the country is actually listening to.

Also, a waste of time...
Fan driven excessive playlists. Fandoms do this too.
Maybe we should be like the UK & completely limit the number of streams that count per person to 10 per track as well as the number of purchases.
What is the difference in fans buying and fans basically running in home streaming farms with every device they own connected to different platforms?
Is any of this real?

While sales were the bulk of it, the week after Dynamite's peak date it had a better streaming position than Trollz or Stuck with You or Watermelon Sugar.

Dynamite being #1 again this week once again doesn't reflect what the country is actually listening to. Do you mean to tell me that the Billboard Hot 100 #1 doesn't always reflect what is the most popular song in the nation? Do you know when that started? 1958.

Honestly, I expected WAP to be the #1 until like yesterday. I have accepted that Dynamite is #1, however the one thing I am annoyed about (and I would be annoyed if any other artist did this) is the fact they have 7 versions ALL discounted to 69 cents. I know they have a big fanbase so it's smart to capitalize off of it, but people can still criticize the technique. I hope they really push it hard on radio for the next few weeks/months. I would like for a K-pop song to get big organically because that's when you know the GP is actively engaged and listening. Hopefully in the next couple months Ice Cream and Dynamite will continue to be growing on radio and potentially get 2 K-pop songs in the top 10 simultaneously. Would be nice but I don't see it for Ice Cream.

Would the deduction of website sales for 'Move Ya hips' only be a one-off? Did they call out Tekashi, Ari and Justin for abusing the sales rule with their article?
YEAH!DEFINITE DOUBLE STANDARD right here!
