I'm already used to pure sales not mattering anymore but damn my chart geek heart is happy to see a consistently good seller again! I need Taylor to not stop whatever she's doing until 1M pure sales is assured lol

Someone mentioned Carrie’s Christmas album coming out this month, but hers and Lana’s were the big releases.
Taylor is doing all this with minimal promo up to this point.... I think she’s saving the talk show circuit and live performances for a second wind here.

Every time Folklore decreases, Pop Smoke does too. Are there any big debuts coming in the next few weeks? I know Lana's album drops and that could be a contender, NFR sold 104k.
If Folklore gets its first eight consecutive weeks at #1 it would be the first solo female album since Whitney Houston's self titled (eleven weeks) in 1987 to achieve this feat. Adele's 25 did seven consecutive weeks.

I bought multiple copies of folklore in its release week because I wanted the different covers but omg people are still buying stuff from bundles lmao, I've sworn myself off from buying another copy of folklore lol. Good for her though, bundles don't do anything unless there are people who are going to buy them and clearly Taylor has that type of pull and her team is smart to take advantage of that.

I think she’s saving the talk show circuit and live performances for a second wind here. I think Taylor has a shot at #1 on Lana's release week, Lana is losing a day of streaming and purchasing. If Taylor releases a music video to her next single (or even announces her next single tbh) or a performance she could snag another week.

It seems like they are using the bundles to offset some of the decreases but I hope they have something more creative promo-wise in the near future. Taylor can continue to dominate if they keep the momentum going. She’s done well to dominate with a Fall/folk album in the Summer so I hope they step it up in the coming months.

I don't anybody would have thought that would be possible.

What Rihanna album has four or five number ones - on any chart? “ANTI” scored eight number ones on the ‘Dance/Club Songs’ chart, the most ever from one album, if that technically answers your question. 🌚 For real? I had no idea. That's actually interesting! "Work" (featuring Drake) "Kiss It Better" "Needed Me" "Love on the Brain" "Sex with Me" "Pose" "Desperado" "Consideration" (featuring SZA) Kristine W and Katy Perry had 7. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dance_Club_Songs

'Detroit 2' by Big Sean drops this Friday, and next week there is the second studio album by NBA Youngboy, 'TOP'.

Big Sean's previous album did debut at #1 with 151k SPS with 65k in pure sales more than 3 years ago. Since Bounce Back, the closest song he has had to a hit is Big Bank.
NBA Younboy's previous album debuted at #7 with 48k SPS more than 2 years ago.

Taylor having constantly changed her sound did help keep her relevant I think, but she was definitely very big outside country before 2014... I mean in 2009 she had the #1 and #2 songs on the Year End Radio Songs chart, a feat I'm pretty sure no-one else has ever achieved. Rihanna had her only top 2 on the Radio Songs YE in 2012 with We Found Love and Katy Perry had her only top 2 on the chart in 2014 with Dark Horse. Lady Gaga's highest position on the radio songs Year End chart was Just Dance at #6 in 2009. Her albums back then were performing better than her singles, that's true, but I don't think that's because she was a country star, I think that's because she was more of an album artist with more of a cult following, after all, her albums are continuing to outperform her singles today with reputation to Folklore. I would argue that Taylor was just as big in the public consciousness as Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Rihanna from 2008 to 2013 (on average, there was some jockeying for the #1 spot depending on the year, and Taylor success was more spread out across that entire period than Gaga's or even Katy's). She was definitely much bigger in the teen and young adult markets that pop dominates than other country cross-over successes like Carrie Underwood and Lady Antebellum. The end of her debut era and start of Fearless era is also when she started associating with Selena and other teen idols and really capturing that demo, as well as when she began experiencing international success. She was also outperforming Gaga and Rihanna on AC by quite a lot, and doing comparably to Katy Perry but earlier (2008-2010 for Taylor, 2011-2013 for Katy). 2008: #5 - Teardrops On My Guitar2009: #1 - Love Story2009: #1 - You Belong With Me2009: #9 - Hot N Cold2010: #1 - Mine2010: #7 - California Gurls2011: #1 - Firework2011: #7 - The Edge of Glory2011: #8 - Teenage Dream2012: #5 - The One That Got Away2012: #10 - We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together2013: #1 - Roar2013: #2 - Wide Awake2013: #3 - Stay2013: #5 - I Knew You Were TroubleShe was also doing pretty well on HAC, where I would say it was Katy >> Taylor > Gaga >> Rihanna during this period. And like with AC, Taylor's HAC peak was earlier than Katy's. I agree. However, unlike for Swift, Perry and Gaga, AC/HAC were never Rihanna’s key radio formats. As a matter of fact, neither format has ever truly embraced her outside of three singles which remain her biggest on both: “Diamonds, Stay, Love On The Brain”. All in all, she never needed those formats anyhow considering she completely dominated three other premier formats, especially Pop radio where she’s the #1 act according to BB and is only behind Drake on Rhythmic and Urban radio. Yeah, I didn't mean to say that Taylor was more successful as a pop star, only that the importance of pop formats were sufficiently important to her overall success that I wouldn't say that 2014 was her pop debut but rather that 2014 was her departure of country. AC/HAC are still fundamentally pop formats in my mind, at least today. It's basically just CHR minus the rhythmic leaning songs and with a reduced willingness to play minor hits and unproven songs, and with greater airplay for recurrent songs. But the vast majority of the songs they play have received airplay on CHR at their chart peaks.

^Yah- Billboard groups those genres under "pop" when searching the archives.
Has Del Rey released an advance single for the new album? The last was released just a year ago, so surprised a new one's here so quick- though not as little of a gap as there was between Taylor Swift's two recent albums. :) Neither hold a candle to the small gap between Ariana Grande's recent two, though.

Two of NBA Youngboy's albums/mixtapes whatever they are called have opened with exactly same numbers (110k) so I'd say 150k is his limit which is of course enough for another #1 spot.

I think he will have at least 100k. Maybe. Tbh it doesn't really seem like theres that much hype there for him, #bigseanisover was trending literally last night and he hasn't really had any hits in the last 3 years so i dont even know if people are curious to see why

Hype is through roof on AM and twitter. This went number no. 1 only with pre-save (20 days before drop). Don't know about Big Sean but this could be streaming bomb like lil baby or Pop.

I could be wrong but Lana will probably not break 100k with this project. There seems to be way less buzz about it compared to NFR!

There seems to be way less buzz about it compared to NFR! wondering if her tone deaf/borderline racist comments will impact her commercial success. ever since I saw that tweet that said "Lana Del Rey love the 50's aesthetic no wonder she's racist" I can't stop thinking about it when I listen to her songs. not that I do it often, but yeah.

Didn't know Lil Wayne has a new album out. Or is it a compilation album of some sort?

Isn't the Lil Wayne release one that hadn't previously been released widely on digital/streaming platforms?
HITS has Del Rey's album out tomorrow, though that's not happening, apparently- "soon," though, according to her.

October 2 is a big release date for me. I have like 4 albums preordered. Mariah, Lana, Dolly Parton, Shania Twain.

I guess whether Taylor will be able to match Whitney's debut for most consecutive weeks at #1 will depend upon whether she continues with the merch. Out of the releases mentioned, I don't see one that will likely blow Folklore out of the water for #1. I say go for it. The demand is obviously there and it's a f**king great album.
Also, didn't Drake say he would have a new album out before the end of summer? I guess he technically still has a few weeks left but that doesn't appear to be the plan anymore.
