10. The Bomb! (3): I've always been a fan of Chicago's Street Player (since the early 80s), as it had a nice Latin, funky vibe. So I loved the idea of updating the melody with electronic 90s beats. And the result was even better than what I expected. I loved the sampling while strengthening/updating of the original brass, percussion, claps sounds.
9. The Weekend (7): This was my second favorite discovery of the RD. I love the production, beat, melody, vocals. Quite catchy and fun
8. Red Alert (6): I remember watching this in MTVLA and hearing it in a radio station. Another quite strong tune in terms of production and especially melody and vocals.
7. Pacific (15): Another great discovery. I really like the Latin, beach, groovy sound here. The more I listened to it, the more I liked it. Close contender for my top 10, so I'm glad to see it this high.
6. Archangel (31): I guess I needed a few more listens of this one to get more emotionally connected... There's a sad melody and vocal sample that is interesting, so I can sorta get the appeal. This type of more minimalistic and repetitive vocal loops is not my cup of tea, though, as I get usually either bored or tired -and in some cases annoyed- of listening to the same sentence 50x in a loop...
5. Halcyon and On and On (28): Speaking of repetitiveness that may get to my nerves... I guess this uses the same sampling as Opus 3's It's A Fine Day, which is one of my favorite dance songs of the early 90s. I like that main melody, but hearing it 100x in a song did get in my nerves, especially because it uses a couple of slightly unpleasant vocals like the horn-like "weh weh". I know some people may find it hypnotic, trippy, and appreciate more the underlying instrumental. Not my case.
4. Insomnia (1): I've always considered this an electronic masterpiece. I have a handful of Faithless tracks in very high regard (including One Step Too Far with Rollo's sister DIdo), but this is the apex. I love the epicness of the second half. I've danced to that part a few times with all the energy I had. LOVE.IT.
3. Finished Symphony (8): My third favorite discovery. A GREAT example of an instrumental song that is interesting, dynamic, nonrepetitive, even emotional. I love the progression of sounds, to the great use of strings. Great to see it top 3!
2. I Remember (2): Another song I loved from first listen. Great vocals and melody, with a subdued but effective instrumental that gives an ethereal, dreamy vibe on top of an effective beat. Great combination, that I've loved listening to while driving at sunset times...
1. Revolution 909 (20): Yeah, I didn't find this as interesting or captivating as most other singles from them, at least not as a discovery. Maybe I needed more listens? Regardless, I won't complain about Daft Punk finally having a #1 in a Rankdown, as they have a lot of gems.
Thanks singingrulebritannia for a great Rankdown that allowed me to discover a few gems, and several overall interesting songs, and learning more about electronic music. Great job!
