Really such a bummer as “29” is a career song that would have been a multi-week number 1 in the 80s or 90s. That being said I kind of get it if she wants to move on. This EP was almost entirely about the divorce and she may not want to spend the next 2 years promoting songs from it.
I’m sure the full album will have some, or all, of these tunes but I’d bet the next single is about something slightly different.

She better be planning on making "Didn't Do" a single, because this EP is absolutely loaded with great songs.

I love Carrie Underwood and all, but I have to say it is nice to see Carly Pearce snatch her Female Vocalist spot this year. Carrie of course had her Xmas album so she didn't completely take the year 'off' per se, but it's nice to have some competition in the category again to where the awards shows don't feel obligated to just put her in there as a token place holder because there's just no viable alternatives. It's nice to see the field becoming more contentious.

Not sure where this belongs, but this just premiered today. Matthew West took this song to the top of the Christian Charts recently, and Carly’s addition on it might provide it a place on the air waves in other formats.

I feel like Carly Pearce is giving me a sort of 'next Miranda Lambert' vibe, because she obviously fills a much more steadfastly country niche compared to a lot of the other new girls in the genre who kinda toe the crossover line similar to a Taylor Swift or Carrie Underwood. Carly strikes me more and more as someone who I could see filling up her awards cabinet in the future as a critical darling. I'm not the hugest fan of her voice, but she has grown on me a TON the longer she's been around and I am really excited to see where her career goes because she is making it a point to put out the kind of quality neo-traditional lyricism that is often missing in the genre lately, at least from a radio-hits perspective. Songs like "It Won't Always Be Like This" and "29" showcase such brilliance and true appreciation for what country music is all about and I can't wait for her to have a hit with a song like that one of these days.

I truly feel like one of those hits like the two you listed is what is going to establish her as a mainstay and give her more of a face in the genre. Much like The house that built me did for Miranda.

Respectfully disagree there. The 'Miranda Lambert of this generation' is Ashley McBryde to me, especially if you are talking about critical acclaim (Never Will is nominated for best country album in CMA Awards, ACM Awards and Grammy, for example).
Carly will continue to have the radio hits though because of her hugely successful radio tour.

Unfortunately, i wouldn’t be surprised if Ashley never hit the top-15 on radio again. I agree with the balance. With this new producer team (Shane McAnally & Josh Osborne), Carly has really returned to her roots and the lyrics are undeniably country and the critical acclaim POURED in for 29, and several articles have been already written about this song about Loretta. I could definitely see her taking Miranda’s place in country music, with maybe even more radio success. Besides her most poppy effort (Closer To You), country radio really has shown Carly no resistance and played all of her singles.

Eh, as bigfan101 said above, I don't see the parallels with Ashley McBryde because I don't ever see her having the kind of mainstream success or platform that Miranda Lambert achieved, but it's obvious that Carly Pearce is headed in the direction of consistent success in the genre. Love Ashley McBryde and am happy she's getting critical acclaim with her music, but my point with the Miranda Lambert comparison is that I think Carly Pearce will have more of a trajectory similar to her than say Maren Morris, Gabby Barrett, and/or Kelsea Ballerini who could be more comparable as the new generation of Carrie Underwoods or Taylor Swifts.

I also think all fans of Carly would even admit “Closer To You” was very average and far and away her worst single, so radio resisting that one lines up.
I don’t know if she is the next Miranda (pretty once in a lifetime talent/career trajectory there) but she’s definitely headed for consistent success, probably more surely than any of the other new women besides Maren.

^ yeah Carly was actually on a podcast a few months ago and was on record saying that “Closer to you” was her labels decision as a single and if there was anything she could “erase” from her career it was that one because it wasn’t her brand at all.

What was this podcast? I'd love to listen to it. I find it so interesting how often labels push singles that artists don't want and then that single ends up flopping.

I actually kind of liked "Closer to You" as a kind of guilty pleasure song and I find the beginning of the chorus insanely catchy but even I can admit that song was probably a mistake even if it didn't do too bad on the chart (made Top 25 on Mediabase).
Anyways "Next Girl" continues to do pretty well on the chart as it is solidly in the Top 30 on both charts, sales are still solid. Definitely think this will T least make the Top 20 and hopefully go all the way

"29" hits me the way "The House That Built Me" continues to hit me 10 years later. I wholeheartedly co-sign the Miranda comparisons. Her rise feels like it was like Carrie's--more instant--tho, but Carly is definitely going to be checking every box the way Miranda has done her entire career.

It was the Ty Bentli show on Apple Music. Her sophomore album was his album spotlight and she gave details behind a lot of the songs. She said the information about “Closer to you” on episode 64, but also appeared on episode 67 & 68 talking about the album. It was broken up into 3 different episodes.

I just got a RadioTraks for her next single - all of which are the remaining six songs on her 29 EP.
Pretty interesting - i wonder if they are gonna push this to top 20 and then go with something else?
Also, thought they weren’t going to push anything else on 29. Maybe the positive buzz made them change their mind.
I ‘voted’ for 29 to be the single of course.

I could see them going for a Hide The Wine peak for this one and moving on. The only 3 songs in consideration should be Should’ve known better, 29, or Messy (because imo it sounds like something radio would eat up.) Personally hoping for SHKB but wouldn’t mind if they choose any of those three.

I get the love for "29" and I do love the song myself but I don't think it should be the next single. The interest and potential career hit I feel like is with "Should've Known Better" as it has always sold and connected better from the jump, I mean the lyric video for "Should've Known Better" has more likes on Youtube than "Next Girl". I just have a good gut feeling that SKB is the song that will get her a huge solo hit on radio.

"29" and "Messy" have the biggest chances of being smash hits imo.
"29" is a lyrical masterpiece, not much more to say about that.
"Messy" has the strongest melody of the bunch and is the most radio friendly IMO. I’ve been obsessed with that one ever since I first heard it. Gorgeous song.

Oh that is so exciting to hear. Any of the options are surefire hits. I do hope they push this to #1 for the sake of getting her another solo #1 - there is really no rush in my opinion. I am perfectly fine with waiting for the "rest" of the album for up to a year or so now that we have the 29 EP.

Despite the buzz around her right now Next Girl is kind of a non event and the gains are slow now that it’s in the 20s, I would love to see them drop it and get SKB out, I think it would be as big as I Hope You’re Happy Now.
