Wow. Both charts have songs that are quite old. Also, good to see some Asian songs that aren't Kpop. Not surprisingly, Drake has 7 songs in the Global 200, while Ed Sheeran has 5 songs.

It's interesting to see songs like Heather, you broke me first, and Kings & Queens higher than I've seen on any chart, even in different countries. Also cool to see Electric Love, even if it is only at #97

I like seeing YOASOBI, Official Hige Dandism, and Yonezu Kenshi! Such little Japanese representation, but I still like to see it.

www.billboard.com/articles/news/9448370/billboard-launches-new-global-charts?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social For the first time, Billboard and MRC unveil two authoritative charts ranking the top songs globally.
The new weekly charts, the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S., are based on worldwide streams and download sales and will give an accurate glimpse into the most popular songs on the planet. Launching today, the Billboard Global 200 is inclusive of worldwide songs while Billboard Global Excl. U.S. focuses on all territories outside the United States. Both collate sales and streaming data from more than 200 territories, with rankings based on a weighted formula incorporating official-only streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of leading digital platforms, and downloads from key online music retailers. Leading the inaugural Billboard Global 200 is "WAP" By Cardi B Featuring Megan Thee Stallion, while the first Billboard Global Excl. U.S. is ruled by Malumaβs "Hawai." "As the steward of the definitive industry charts," comments MRC Data and MRC Media & Info president Deanna Brown, "we're thrilled to unveil out our global charts which give the industry insights into the most powerful artists worldwide, what songs have an international impact, as well as what songs may start trending outside of the United States." "Billboard and MRC Data are proud to present charts that are reflective of a world view and we are committed to the continued expansion of territories and digital service providers contributing to the global charts to further expand that reach,β comments Silvio Pietroluongo, Billboard senior vp, Charts & Data Development. Billboard and MRC Data have been discussing the idea of global charts with the industry and data providers for more than two years. One of the goals for the project was to expose people to music from multiple territories. In time, it is hoped that the power of the Billboard and MRC Data brands will bring overdue exposure and recognition for acts from international markets. The full charts will be made available on Billboard.com on Tuesday (Sept. 15), and be published every Tuesday going forward. For both charts, the top 100 songs are featured on Billboard.com, while the complete 200-title rankings are visible on Billboard Pro, Billboardβs subscription-based service. From Queen to Kendrick: A Look at the Older Titles Enduring on the New Billboard Global 200 Chart9/15/2020 by Eric FrankenbergYesterday (Sept. 14), Billboard and MRC Data announced the launch of the Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts, which rank the biggest hits from more than 200 international territories. (Click here for a deeper dive into each survey.) These new chartsβ focus on worldwide data isnβt the only angle that separates them from the U.S.-based Billboard Hot 100 chart. At the outset, unlike the Hot 100, neither global ranking has a βrecurrentβ rule, allowing titles from any point in music history to appear. (On the Hot 100, descending songs are removed once below No. 25 after 52 weeks, or once below No. 50 after 20 weeks. Plus, even older titles are eligible to chart if ranking in the top 50, such as when multiple decades-old holiday classics return to the tally each winter.) Still, 162 titles, or 81%, on the first Billboard Global 200 are from 2019-20. Further, 184 of the top 200, or 92% of the chart, were released since 2017. Queenβs βBohemian Rhapsodyβ is the oldest title on both charts, at No. 131 on the Billboard Global 200 and No. 141 on the Global 200 Excl. U.S. list. Released on Halloween 1975, the 45-year-old rock opera is the only song from the 20th century to appear on both global tallies. The track has a storied chart history stateside, hitting No. 9 for two weeks in 1976 on the Hot 100, before re-entering and peaking at No. 2 in 1992, boosted by its inclusion in the box office hit Wayneβs World. Most recently, the song returned to the top 40 in late 2018, fueled by momentum generated by the Oscar-winning Queen biopic of the same name. Only four other songs from the 20th century crack either chart. The Billboard Global 200 features βDonβt Stop Believinβ β by Journey (No. 150; 1981), βHotel Californiaβ by the Eagles (No. 170; 1976), and βSweet Child O Mineβ by Guns Nβ Roses (No. 188; 1987), while a-haβs βTake on Meβ from 1985 ranks at No. 192 on the Global Excl. U.S. chart. No songs from the β90s appear on either worldwide list and just one song from the 2000s makes both: Jason Mrazβs 2008 hit βIβm Yoursβ sneaks in at No. 188 on the Global Excl. U.S. chart and No. 197 on the Billboard Global 200. The song logged a then-record 76 weeks on the Hot 100 (now held by Imagine Dragonsβ βRadioactive,β which lasted for 87 weeks in 2012-14). Nine songs released between 2012 and 2015 make either global ranking (or both). In some cases, itβs major hits from those years that dominated airwaves and streaming playlists alike, such as John Legendβs βAll of Meβ (No. 123, Global Excl. U.S.; No. 143, Global 200), Ed Sheeranβs βThinking Out Loudβ (No. 181, Global 200; No. 191, Global Excl. U.S.) and Aviciiβs βWake Me Up!β (No. 193, Global Excl. U.S.) But certain enduring hits of the early 2010s donβt have such substantial U.S. chart history. Aided by a resurgence on TikTok, βElectric Loveβ by BΓRNS is the oldest song to crack the top half of the Billboard Global 200 (No. 97; 2014), despite never having made the Hot 100. Further, Kendrick Lamar has built up an impressive singles roster domestically, including two Hot 100 No. 1 singles, among eight top 10s and 48 total entries. None of them, however, are βMoney Trees,β the good kid, m.A.A.d. city track (featuring Jay Rock) from 2012 that stands as Lamarβs sole entry on the Billboard Global 200 at No. 185 (its profile also helped by TikTok). Looking into hits of 2017-19, an expected crossover shows between big Hot 100 hits and the inaugural Billboard Global 200. Former Hot 100 leaders by Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, Maroon 5, and Post Malone endure with strong global figures, each ranking in the Global 200βs top half. Still, other unsuspecting songs (like βElectric Loveβ and βMoney Treesβ) from the last few years are punching above their domestic weight, including Pinkfongβs kid-friendly βBaby Sharkβ. After peaking at No. 32 in January 2019, the seaborne earworm ranks at No. 58 on the Billboard Global 200, outpacing such year-end Hot 100 No. 1s as βShape of Youβ by Sheeran (No. 63; 2017) and βOld Town Roadβ by Lil Nas X featuring Billy Ray Cyrus (No. 88; 2019).

Just How Global Are the New Global Billboard Charts? 9/15/2020 by Eric Frankenberg
The two new surveys feature artists from more than 30 international territories. MRC yesterday announced the launch of the two new global Billboard surveys, which are powered by MRC Data/Nielsen Music: the Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts.
The two lists, one inclusive of worldwide songs (Billboard Global 200) and the other including all territories but excluding the U.S. (Billboard Global Excl. U.S.), rank songs based on streaming and sales activity culled from more than 200 territories around the world.
Chart rankings are based on a weighted formula incorporating official-only streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of audio and video music services, as well as download sales from full-service digital music retailers from around the world.
Cardi B's "WAP," featuring Megan Thee Stallion, and Maluma's "HawΓ‘i" rank at No. 1 on the maiden Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts, respectively, dated Sept. 19.
As for all the artists on the two new tallies, what countries boast the best showings?
The U.S. reigns over both initial global rankings with a considerable presence, with U.S. artists accounting for 60% of titles on the Billboard Global 200. Even without U.S. data included in the methodology of the Global Excl. U.S. chart, 38% of all titles are by domestic artists.
Unsurprisingly, these figures are modest relative to the countryβs 80% hold over the Billboard Hot 100, which is based solely on stateside data.
Going deeper into the new global tallies, both charts further separate themselves from the Hot 100. While the Hot 100 features artists from a spread of ten different international territories (with the U.S. and Puerto Rico counted separately), the Global Excl. U.S. chart includes representation from 31 territories, while the Billboard Global 200 sports a reach of 25 territories.
Notably, both global rankings are 200 positions deep, double the length of the Hot 100. Using an even playing field of just the top 100 titles from the new charts, the Hot 100βs ten represented territories are still dwarfed by 22 territories on the Global Excl. U.S. chart and 20 on the Billboard Global 200.
The U.K. follows the U.S. in presence on all three charts, claiming 14% of the Global Excl. U.S. chart and 10% of the Billboard Global 200. On the Hot 100, Canada ranks third with 5%, though that is where the global charts diverge. The Global Excl. U.S. listing favors Puerto Rico (7%), Japan (6%), Colombia (5%), and South Korea (4.5%) over Canada (4%).
This representation speaks volumes to the global popularity of Latin and Asian-pop genres. While Japanese artists are absent from the Hot 100, nine different acts from Japan show, for a total of 12 titles, on the Global Excl. U.S. chart.
Further, the Hot 100 features two titles by South Korean acts, although one is an English-language song (BTSβ βDynamiteβ) and the other is a collab with a well-known American pop star (βIce Creamβ by BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez). Both global rankings include multiple tracks by each group, plus songs by fellow South Korean acts iTZY and Pinkfong.
Additional representation from Asia shows via the United Arab Emiratesβ Hussain Al Jassmi, at No. 145 on the Global Excl. U.S. chart with βBel Bont El3areedh,β plus featured credits by artists in India and the Philippines.
Ten acts from Puerto Rico appear on both charts as lead artists, including Rauw Alejandro, Bad Bunny and Jay Wheeler. Ozuna leads all Puerto Rican artists with four titles on the Global Excl. U.S. chart and three on the Billboard Global 200.
Fresh off the Aug. 21 release of his new album Papi Juancho, Maluma leads Colombian acts with three entries on the Billboard Global 200. He extends that spread to four songs on the Global Excl. U.S. chart, including that rankingβs No. 1 title, βHawΓ‘i.β J Balvin, Feid and Camilo add to Colombiaβs fruitful global presence.
Further Latin and South American company is evident by way of Argentina, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Panama, Jamaica, and Venezuela and a feature from Cameroon.
Outside of the U.K., European countries on the global charts include France, Germany, Italy, Kosovo, the Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Spain and Sweden.
Four titles from the continent of Australia (two from Australia and two from New Zealand) appear across both global charts.
Plus, the continent of Africa is represented by βJerusalemaβ by Master KG, Nomcebo Zikode (South Africa) and Burna Boy (Nigeria) at No. 21 on the Global Excl U.S. chart and No. 45 on the Billboard Global 200.
Not only do the new global charts display a wide cross-section of international artists, they also reflect cross-national collaboration. While 15% of the Hot 100 comprises songs by artists from two or more different territories, the sum jumps to 26% for the Global Excl. U.S. chart and 22% of the Billboard Global 200.
Further, only one song on the Hot 100 features artists from three or more territories: βUn Dia (One Day)β represents Colombia (J Balvin), the U.K. (Dua Lipa) and Puerto Rico (Bad Bunny and Tainy). The Billboard Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts feature six and seven such songs, respectively, mixing acts from the U.S., Panama, Australia, the Philippines and more.

How Billboard Formulated the New Global Charts 9/15/2020 by Alexei Barrionuevo
The Billboard and MRC Data chart team discuss the two ground-breaking rankings of global songs. Billboard and MRC Data launched two Global Charts on Monday, creating the first authoritative charts ranking the top songs in the world. Powered by MRC Data/Nielsen Music and the newly created Music Connect, a music measurement and analytics platform, the charts will rank the top songs based on worldwide streams and download sales.
The two new charts -- the Billboard Global 200, which includes worldwide songs, and Billboard Global Excluding U.S. -- will rank songs based on streaming and sales activity culled from more than 200 territories around the world. The chart rankings will be based on a weighted formula incorporating official-only streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of leading audio and video music services, plus download sales from top music retailers across the globe.
Leading the inaugural Billboard Global 200 is "WAP" by Cardi B featuring Megan Thee Stallion, while the first Billboard Global Excl. U.S. is ruled by Malumaβs "HawΓ‘i."
The full charts will be made available on Billboard.com on Tuesday, and be published every Tuesday going forward. For both charts, the top 100 songs are featured on Billboard.com, while the complete 200-title rankings are visible on Billboard Pro, Billboardβs subscription-based service.
Billboard's international editor, Alexei Barrionuevo, discussed the new charts with the team that led their development: Silvio Pietroluongo, senior vp charts & data development; Helena Kosinski, vp MRC Data - global; Keith Caulfield, senior director of charts; and Gary Trust, senior director of charts.
Why did it take so long for someone to establish a global chart?
Itβs all about the availability of the data. And having the various streaming and digital retail services willing to participate and provide data. Itβs not an easy task and weβre extremely proud to be able to present the first-ever authoritative, multi-service, ranking of the top songs in the world.
How long has this project been in the works? Could you describe the level of investment in financial and human resources to put the charts together?
Billboard and MRC Data have been discussing the idea of global charts with the industry and data providers for more than two years now. We really began making significant progress over the last 12 months, getting buy-in from the various digital services and arriving at a methodology that the industry could back.
Can you explain the reasoning behind choosing to have two charts, one including the U.S. and one excluding it?
One of the goals for this project was to expose people to music from multiple territories. So having each chart go 200 titles deep and also presenting a view of titles excluding U.S. influence was of great importance to us.
How will these charts impact the music world?
Our hope is that the power of the Billboard and MRC Data brands will bring overdue exposure and recognition for acts from multiple territories.
Tell us About MRC Data's Global Music Connect. What can the industry see and how will that be beneficial to them?
Global Music Connect is a comprehensive measurement and analytics platform that provides streaming and sales data for any artist and song. With this holistic view of the global music industry, Music Connect allows clients to dive deep into datasets to uncover insightful metrics, identify trends and track and compare performance across markets to help make informed decisions, be it in A&R, deal valuation, marketing, promotions and more.
There have been concerns expressed in the German courts recently, and in other parts of the world, about the increasing prevalence of fake streams that call into question whether consumers can trust the information on music streaming platforms. How will Billboard gird against any outside manipulation or fraud that would affect the credibility of the Global Charts?
Billboard and MRC Data have worked closely with our data providers to implement various audit guidelines to limit any significant effect of manufactured streams. In addition, each data provider has their own safeguards in place to recognize fraudulent behavior and catch it before it gets to their data partners, including Billboard and MRC Data.
What were the challenges to putting charts like this together, with so many countries involved? Can you discuss in which countries and regions you encountered the most hurdles? (How, for example, did you navigate all the regional and language differences in India, a country that has struggled for years to put together a national chart?)
Our initial path to launch involved working with the streaming services that have a global presence, such as Apple, Spotify, Tidal and YouTube, among others. With their inclusion, we have over 200 territories represented in the ranking, including India and a good portion of the Asian markets. Getting the local or regional services to be willing to share data or to be transparent enough with that data to meet our reporting requirements is something we knew would take a bit longer to achieve. We firmly believe that the launch of the chart will spur many of the holdouts to contribute to better reflect the success of their homegrown acts and the power of their services.
In creating these charts did Billboard/MRC Data have to adjust its methodology to account for the different realities of data collection or other factors in different parts of the world?
Both charts incorporate official-only streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of leading audio and video music services. We collaborated with the industry to create a unique, revenue-reflective methodology taking the global market into account. The Billboard Global 200, which includes U.S. data, has a slightly different methodology than Billboard Global Excluding U.S. because of the revenue influences represented in each ranking. For the Billboard Global 200: One Track Sale = 200 Premium Streams = 900 Ad-Supported *The Ad-Supported to Premium stream ratio is 4.5 to 1
The ranking will be presented based on stream equivalent units using the following formula: (Tracks * 200) + Premium Streams + (Ad-Supported Streams / 4.5)
For Billboard Global Excluding U.S.: 1 Track Sale = 250 Premium Streams = 1125 Ad-Supported *The Ad-Supported to Premium stream ratio is also 4.5 to 1
The ranking will be presented based on stream equivalent units using the following formula: (Tracks * 250) + Premium Streams + (Ad-Supported Streams / 4.5)
How many total data points is Billboard/MRC collecting to compile these charts?
The Chart rankings are based on a weighted formula incorporating official-only streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of leading audio and video music services, plus download sales from top music retailers across the globe.
Are streaming totals and album sales adjusted for local currency or are all numbers being calculated using US$ dollars?
The rankings are not based on a monetary figure, specifically. Itβs a revenue-reflective formula which presents the final rankings in streaming equivalent units, where track sales and ad-supported streams are weighted to represent paid streams using a blended global revenue figure. The math would work the same using U.S. dollars or any other currency.
Any predictions on whether the Global Chart will help artists from other countries in non-English languages become global superstars? Which region do you think this could be most likely to happen in?
The charts are a reflection of what music fans are consuming. The international representation on the Billboard Hot 100 has increased over the past couple of years because of how music is distributed globally via streaming services, with fans having unlimited access to music from all over the world. What the Global charts will do is help expose and celebrate who the global superstars are, providing opportunities for these acts to expand their fan base far beyond language and geography.

I feel like while the weekly charts might be more fun to view since there are regular recurrents and rules in regards to older songs, the Global Year-End might be more representative of what was popular in a year. It's a shame it only came now when there's around 2 months left in the chart year.

^Agreed. Some of the biggest weeks for some songs, WAP and Dynamite in particular were missed out on. It will be interested how these two charts will be handled for the Year-End.

Year end fans may have to wait for the debut of the global year end chart. Probably still about 15 months Away

In the meantime, the big advantage of this chart is exposure for acts such as Maluma & Ozuna.
Music to check out that isn't necessarily of the usual hip-hop variety

This isn't the Hot 100, I guess if it is not a hit here but it is a hit somewhere else, it will show up on this list For one hit wonder fans - siriusxm has a one-hit wonder channel now

My problem with this is excluding local streaming services like QQ and Line. This may be Billboard saying to countries to ditch them for Apple Music or Spotify.

This right here is a big problem for Chinese live streaming sites in the gaming world. I would assume it is simillar here, so that is why they were excluded. What counts as a view etc.
If we had a "real" Global chart (with all local streaming platforms), music popular in China would dominate the chart. Why? - Based on a report Tencent Music has more users then Spotify. Tencent Music has like 12 streaming platforms that are big in China + some other Asian countries.

Iβm surprised that Gooba is this high on both charts. Iβm surprised itβs even there in the first place.

^Gooba was high probably because of 6ix9ine's album release. It will be interesting to see if it manages to remain or not for a second week in both charts.

BTS' 'Dynamite' Hits No. 1 on Billboard Global Excl. U.S. Chart, Cardi B's 'WAP' Tops Global 200 9/21/2020 by Gary Trust FACEBOOK TWITTER EMAIL METhe two new charts rank songs based on streaming and sales data from more than 200 territories. BTS' "Dynamite" lights it up at No. 1 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart, rising from No. 2. Plus, Cardi B's "WAP," featuring Megan Thee Stallion, leads the Billboard Global 200 tally. The two charts (the latest of which are dated Sept. 26) premiered a week ago and rank songs based on streaming and sales activity culled from more than 200 territories around the world, as compiled by Nielsen Music/MRC Data. The Billboard Global 200 is inclusive of worldwide data and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart comprises data from territories excluding the U.S. Chart rankings are based on a weighted formula incorporating official-only streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of audio and video music services, as well as download sales, the latter of which reflect purchases from full-service digital music retailers from around the world, with sales from direct-to-consumer (D2C) sites excluded from the charts' calculations. 'WAP' No. 1 for Second Week on Billboard Global 200 Cardi B's "WAP," featuring Megan Thee Stallion, maintains control of the Billboard Global 200 in the chart's second week. The song dominates with 89.2 million global streams (down from 100.9 million a week earlier) and 17,000 global downloads sold (down from 23,000) in the week ending Sept. 17. BTS' "Dynamite" repeats at No. 2 on the Global 200 with 79.1 million streams (down from 83.4 million) and 29,000 sold (down from 36,000). For a second straight frame, "WAP" was the most-streamed song of the week globally and "Dynamite" was the top-selling title. The rest of the Global 200's top five is likewise steady, as, holding from Nos. 3 through 5, respectively, are 24kGoldn's "Mood," featuring iann dior (63.1 million streams, 12,000 sold); Maluma's all-Spanish-language "HawΓ‘i" (85.5 million streams, 3,000 sold); and Drake's "Laugh Now Cry Later," featuring Lil Durk (45.5 million streams, 5,000 sold). Elsewhere in the Global 200's top 10, Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo's "Savage Love (Laxed β Siren Beat)" keeps at No. 6; The Weeknd's "Blinding Lights" stays at No. 7; DaBaby's "Rockstar," featuring Roddy Ricch, rises 9-8; Harry Styles' "Watermelon Sugar" pushes 10-9; and Pop Smoke's "For the Night," featuring Lil Baby and DaBaby, enters the top 10, climbing 12-10. BTS' 'Dynamite' Takes Over Atop Billboard Global 200 Excl. U.S. BTS' "Dynamite" ascends 2-1 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart, on the strength of 67.4 million streams (down from 70.9 million the previous week) and 18,000 sold (down from 15,000) in territories outside the U.S. in the week ending Sept. 17. The South Korean septet's smash, and the group's first all-English-language single, dethrones "HawΓ‘i" by Colombian star Maluma, as the latter track drops to No. 2 on the Global Excl. U.S. chart with 77.4 million streams (down from 85.3 million) and 1,000 sold (essentially even week-over-week). The songs at Nos. 3, 4 and 5, respectively, on the Global Excl. U.S. chart repeat their rankings from a week ago: Cardi B's "WAP" (53.5 million streams, 5,000 sold); 24kGoldn's "Mood" (40.9 million streams, 5,000 sold); and Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo's "Savage Love (Laxed β Siren Beat)" (33.6 million streams, 9,000 sold). Rounding out the Global Excl. U.S. chart's top 10, The Weeknd's "Blinding Lights" lifts 7-6; Harry Styles' "Watermelon Sugar" ascends 9-7; Sech's "Relacion" holds at No. 8; Blackpink and Selena Gomez's "Ice Cream" slides 6-9; and Ozuna's "Caramelo" holds at No. 10. For a second straight week, while one song (Maluma's "HawΓ‘i") in the Global 200's top 10 is sung in all-Spanish, three songs in the Global Excl. U.S. chart's top 10 are either all- or almost-all Spanish-language, with "Hawai" again joined by "Relacion" and "Caramelo." The Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts (dated Sept. 26) will update on Billboard.com tomorrow (Sept. 22). For both charts, the top 100 titles are available to all readers on Billboard.com, while the complete 200-title rankings are visible on Billboard Pro, Billboard's subscription-based service. For all chart news, you can follow billboard and billboardcharts on both Twitter and Instagram.

Iβm surprised that Gooba is this high on both charts. Iβm surprised itβs even there in the first place. It was also holding much better in some Spanish speaking countries for some reason if I recall correctly
