Dua Lipa’s ‘Levitating’ Makes History as the Longest-Charting Billboard Hot 100 Hit Ever Among Women The track tallies a 70th week on the Hot 100, after reigning as the top title of all of 2021.
By Gary Trust

+ additional share options added Dua Lipa‘s “Levitating” logs a 70th week on the Billboard Hot 100 (on the chart dated March 19, 2022), rewriting the record for the most weeks ever spent on the survey for a song by a woman. It one-ups the 69-week run of LeAnn Rimes’ “How Do I Live” in 1997-98.
Among all acts, “Levitating” is just the fifth single to spend at least 70 weeks on the Hot 100, dating to the chart’s August 1958 inception. The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” amassed a record 90 frames in 2019-21.
“Levitating” rose to No. 2 on the Hot 100 dated May 22, 2021, and, sparked by its longevity, reigned as the top title on Billboard‘s 2021 year-end Hot 100 Songs chart. (It has spent 41 weeks in the top 10, the most for a song by a woman and second overall only to the 57-week top 10 run of “Blinding Lights.”)
“It’s nice after you work so hard, especially despite the pandemic, when you’ve got limited resources,” Lipa marveled to Billboard upon learning of the top year-end Hot 100 status for “Levitating.” “So, it means a lot to me. ‘Levitating’ doing its thing on the Billboard chart is absolutely surreal. That song has been my baby for so long, and to have it out in the world, and for people’s response to be the way that it is … it’s just absolutely mind-blowing to me. I’m really, really, really grateful for it all.”
“Levitating” is also the longest-charting Hot 100 hit in the history of Warner Records.
Here’s a rundown of the songs to spend the most time on the Hot 100. Notably, three of the elite 20 titles with at least 60 weeks on the chart appear on the latest, March 19-dated ranking: In addition to “Levitating” (which is also drawing renewed, if not exactly welcome, attention as the subject of two recently-filed copyright infringement lawsuits), at No. 16, Glass Animals’ “Heat Waves” adds a second week at No. 1, in its 60th total frame, and The Weeknd and Ariana Grande’s “Save Your Tears” places at No. 17, in its 62nd week.

Ask Billboard: The Kid LAROI & Justin Bieber’s ‘Stay’ Makes History on the Hot 100 "No one seems to be tired of this earworm," marvels Brady Bedard, Columbia Records senior vp/pop promotion.

‘Stay’-ing Power Dear Gary,
With “Stay” by The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber at No. 2 the last two weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, the song has now totaled more time at that rank – 13 weeks, nonconsecutively – than any other in the chart’s history. It has passed both Olivia Rodrigo’s “Good 4 U” and Whitney Houston’s “Exhale (Shoop Shoop),” each of which spent 11 weeks at No. 2, in 2021 and 1995-96, respectively.
Even better, all three songs also spent time at No. 1 on the Hot 100: “Stay” for seven weeks and “Good 4 U” and “Exhale” for a week each.
Has “Stay” achieved any other honors on the Hot 100?
Thank you,
Jesper Tan Subang Jaya, Malaysia
Hi Jesper,
It has! As of the latest, April 2-dated Hot 100, “Stay” makes history as the single to spend the most weeks – 20 – in the Hot 100’s top two spots, dating to the chart’s Aug. 4, 1958, inception.
The collaboration passes Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” (featuring Billy Ray Cyrus), which amassed a record 19 weeks at No. 1, and none at the runner-up position.
Most Weeks Ever at Nos. 1 and 2 Combined on the Hot 100
20, “Stay,” The Kid LAROI & Justin Bieber (7 weeks at No. 1/13 weeks at No. 2), 2021-22 (through the April 2, 2022, chart) 19, “Old Town Road,” Lil Nas X feat. Billy Ray Cyrus (19/0), 2019 18, “Uptown Funk!,” Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars (14/4), 2015 17, “Despacito,” Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee feat. Justin Bieber (16/1), 2017 16, “Shape of You,” Ed Sheeran (12/4), 2017 16, “I Gotta Feeling,” The Black Eyed Peas (14/2), 2009 16, “We Belong Together,” Mariah Carey (14/2), 2005 16, “One Sweet Day,” Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men (16/0), 1995-96 15, “Rockstar,” Post Malone feat. 21 Savage (8/7), 2017-18 15, “Closer,” The Chainsmokers feat. Halsey (12/3), 2016 15, “All About That Bass,” Meghan Trainor (8/7), 2014 15, “I’ll Make Love to You,” Boyz II Men (14/1), 1994 15, “I Will Always Love You,” Whitney Houston (14/1), 1992-93 (As all those songs reached No. 1 on the Hot 100, two titles share the mark for the most weeks at No. 2 without rising to the top spot: Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott’s “Work It” and Foreigner’s “Waiting for a Girl Like You,” each of which spent 10 weeks peaking at No. 2, in 2002-03 and 1981-82, respectively.)
In addition to breaking the record for the most weeks in the Hot 100’s top two, “Stay” adds its unprecedented 22nd week in the top three. It surpasses The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights,” The Chainsmokers’ “Closer” (featuring Halsey) and Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk!” (featuring Bruno Mars), each of which logged 21 weeks in the top three.
Helping “Stay” continue its run in the Hot 100’s upper reaches, it concurrently ranks at No. 2 on Radio Songs, with 60.4 million in airplay audience in the latest tracking week, according to Luminate, formerly MRC Data. It also rebounds 13-8 on Streaming Songs with 11.3 million official U.S. streams.
Key to the song’s continued appeal? “The short answer is immediacy,” says Brady Bedard, Columbia Records senior vp/pop promotion. (Columbia, to which The Kid LAROI is signed, and Def Jam Recordings, Bieber’s label home, share credit on the song.) “From the first spin, ‘Stay’ had an instant reaction from both the audience and the industry. Months later, ‘Stay’ is still spinning, still streaming, still researching and still sounding as fresh as it did on day one.
“That really sums it up: No one seems to be tired of this earworm,” Bedard says. “What a rarity in the modern age of records that can come and go so quickly.”
Notes Erik Bradley, assistant program director/music director at WBBM-FM Chicago, which reports to Billboard‘s Pop Airplay chart and has played “Stay” over 4,200 times, “It’s still a full-time power record for B96. The audience still wants it. It’s one of the biggest songs we can play at the moment and it honestly doesn’t show much sign of slowing down anytime soon.”
“It never sounds tired – always sounds fresh, zero burn,” agrees Sue O’Neil, WKSE Buffalo, N.Y., pd. The fellow Pop Airplay panelist has given “Stay” over 3,600 plays.
“Pure pop bliss,” she praises.
Looking even (far) further forward, Bedard says of “Stay,” “It’s already an all-timer but seems poised to remain relevant for years to come.”
Echoes Bradley, “My hunch is that once it’s all said and done, it’ll be one of the contenders for Billboard‘s song of the decade when you compile that list at the end of 2029 …”

With Heat Waves officially logging a 68th week on the charts, the Top 10 longest Hot 100 songs threshold has officially been set at 68 weeks. It looks like it may be a while before the threshold increases, as there is a log jam at 68 and 69 weeks.
The threshold had previously been stuck at 62 weeks from 2014 until Blinding Lights recorded a 63rd week in February 2021, and the threshold had been slowly increasing over the last 15 months with the additions of Levitating, Save Your Tears, and Heat Waves.

Glass Animals’ ‘Heat Waves’ Ties The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’ for Longest Run in Hot 100 History "Blinding Lights" held the record to itself since last year.
By Xander Zellner
10/10/2022
Glass Animals‘ former five-week Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 “Heat Waves” ties The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” for the most weeks spent on the chart over the survey’s 64-year history.
“Heat Waves” spends its 90th week on the Hot 100 (dated Oct. 15), at No. 20, tying the record run of “Blinding Lights” in 2019-21. Over the course of its Hot 100 tenure, “Heat Waves” also broke the record for the longest climb to No. 1, when it reached the summit in its 59th week in March, as it has drawn audiences on TikTok and multiple radio formats since its June 2020 release.
“Blinding Lights” logged four weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 and set records for the most weeks spent in the top five (43), top 10 (57), top 20 (80) and top 40 (86). Its longevity helped it earn the distinction as the No. 1 title on Billboard‘s Greatest of All Time Hot 100 Songs ranking.
“Blinding Lights” had held the longevity record on the Hot 100 since August 2021, when it overtook Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive.” The latter track spent 87 weeks on the chart and had held the mark since 2014, when it surpassed Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours” (76 weeks, 2008-09).
Notably, both “Heat Waves” and “Blinding Lights” are Republic Records releases, the former on Wolf Tone/Polydor/Republic and the latter on XO/Republic.
Here’s an updated look at the titles with the most weeks spent on the Hot 100, dating to the chart’s Aug. 4, 1958, inception through the Oct. 15-dated chart.
Most Weeks Spent on the Billboard Hot 100:
90, “Heat Waves,” Glass Animals 90, “Blinding Lights,” The Weeknd 87, “Radioactive,” Imagine Dragons 79, “Sail,” AWOLNATION 77, “Levitating,” Dua Lipa 76, “I’m Yours,” Jason Mraz 69, “Save Your Tears,” The Weeknd & Ariana Grande 69, “How Do I Live,” LeAnn Rimes 68, “Counting Stars,” OneRepublic 68, “Party Rock Anthem” LMFAO feat. Lauren Bennett & GoonRock With its 57th week spent in the Hot 100’s top 20, “Heat Waves” ties The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber’s “Stay” for the fourth-most weeks spent in the region, after “Blinding Lights” (80), Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” (62) and Post Malone’s “Circles” (60).
Only “Blinding Lights” has spent more weeks in the Hot 100’s top 40 (86) than “Heat Waves” (75).
“Heat Waves” debuted at No. 100 on the Hot 100 dated Jan. 16, 2021. The No. 1 song that week was Taylor Swift’s “Willow.” Since then, an additional 26 songs (excluding “Heat Waves”) have reached the summit. From the Jan. 16, 2021-dated Hot 100 to the current, Oct. 15, 2022, chart, “Heat Waves” has ranked alongside a whopping 1,261 other songs.
Of the 90 weeks that “Heat Waves” has spent on the Hot 100, 66 were shared with The Weeknd and Ariana Grande’s “Save Your Tears,” the most of any song over the former’s run. “Levitating” follows with 64 shared weeks, then “Stay” (63).

Glass Animals’ ‘Heat Waves’ Is Now the Longest Charting Hot 100 Song of All Time The song has surpassed the run of The Weeknd's "Blinding Lights."
By Xander Zellner
10/17/2022
Glass Animals‘ former five-week Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 “Heat Waves” is now the longest charting song in the list’s 64-year history, as it tallies a record-breaking 91st week on the latest Oct. 22-dated survey.
Ranking at No. 21 on the newest Hot 100, “Heat Waves” surpasses The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights,” which logged 90 weeks on the chart in 2019-21.
Over the course of its run on the chart, “Heat Waves” also broke the record for the steadiest climb to No. 1 when it reached the summit in its 59th week in March.
“Wow, all I can say is wow, ” Glass Animals frontman Dave Bayley marvels to Billboard about the band’s achievement. “Many of you know when I wrote this song I was writing about missing someone I loved very dearly. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that it would lead to so much love and connection across the globe. You all have done that. Thank you to everyone who has helped this song reach so many people. You know who you are. Thank you.”
Here’s an updated look at the songs with the most weeks spent on the Hot 100, from to the chart’s Aug. 4, 1958 inception through the Oct. 22-dated ranking:
