Alicia Keys’ First Week #’s. • SIAM: 236K • DOAK: 618K • AIA: 742K • TEOF: 417K • GOF: 160K • Here: 50K If “Again” can cross the 50K mark (and debut in the top three) then that would be fantastic. All in all, Keys’ peak circa. 2001-2007 was absolutely huge and I think many, today especially, forget that. True. Alicia was as big as Beyoncé in the 00s, maybe bigger.

^They were #5 and #4,respectively on the Decade-End Artist chart. So yeah, pretty close.

I like that title, Baby Yoda Hot100Fan. There was something that I was pondering earlier: Why is that Ms.Keys gets a 50k+debut, and gets no shit for it, but Katy Perry can get a 50k debut and shes "over", "flop"?. They are obviously two different big artists, had hits upon hits, but why is one getting more fanfare than the other? Here mainly. Just a thought tis all.

^Thanks. With regard to your question, I think that Katy got more attention for her album because of two reasons, one being that she had recently had more success in both the albums and singles chart, so the expectation for her album was higher, and two because she had some high profile appearances performing songs from it. Alicia, by comparison, has been lo-key in both aspects and considered a legacy or niche artist. Perhaps Katy will be considered one for her next album, assuming she releases one.

What I don't get is how the random EPs of the same songs work in it's favor... does anyone actually stream that? The album is right there. I also find that surprising.. It's not like the different combination/order of songs makes for such a remarkably different experience that you have to listen to each chapter ...

I think if tour bundles had been in play Katy would have decimated Alicia's numbers (see Witness opening well in spite of a much worse reception than Smile). And Alicia is holding on to 100% of her previous first week numbers, which is not easy for any act these days. Did she have any bundles with her previous release?

Yeah, Alicia Keys peaked in 2001-2008, Katy peaked in 2010-2014, so Alicia no longer dominating the charts has been considered old news for a while.

^Sad to say. Not much streaming for her. Mostly pure sales I would dare say, although remaining in the top 6 of iTunes since its release doesn't amount to much nowadays.

They are obviously two different big artists, had hits upon hits, but why is one getting more fanfare than the other? Here mainly. Just a thought tis all. Alicia Keys debuted in 2001, and as of 2020 is 19 years into her career. Katy Perry debuted in 2008, and as of 2020 is 12 years into her career. Alicia Keys is an R&B/Neo-Soul-oriented artist who, despite her obvious fame and singles success, never created music that was solely targeted to Pop radio. She was never viewed as a ‘Pop star’, but a crossover niche star instead, and doesn’t have a big social media presence. Katy Perry is a Pop/Dance artist whose biggest commercial achievements are through that of her singles and she is viewed as a Pop star and does have a big social media presence. Albeit Perry was never a strong album seller in the first place, and the fact that she debuted much closer to the streaming era and was a chart-topping force merely a few years ago, it does beg the question of her where her ‘fanbase’ has gone for her last two releases to have performed so abysmally yet Lady Gaga (her most direct peer) and Taylor Swift are still performing very well? *** Of Keys’ peers, only Beyonce is seeing better albums success. Usher, Pink and Justin Timberlake also but to a lesser extent and varying degrees. Britney Spears hasn’t for almost a decade for obvious reasons and Christina Aguilera hasn’t been a force since 2006/2008. There’s also Rihanna who debuted in between the early 00’s & late 00’s acts and has EASILY survived the Digital + Streaming eras.

1 TAYLOR SWIFT | FOLKLORE REPUBLIC 85,540 89% 56,674 984 27,881
7th week at #1 on HDD, so it looks like she'll beat the BB200 female record for most career-wide weeks at #1.

Based on estimates (mostly thanks due to numbers from oldbloke from UKmix): "Hollywood's Bleeding" has surpassed "DAMN." in total activity and is now the 9th best selling album in the Streaming Era(2015-). Post Malone has 3 albums in top 10. "Stoney" is less than 100K units ahead of HB. So "Hollywood's Bleeding" will take his spot SOONTM

Do you mind posting the full list with the numbers included? I'm wondering what else is there. Notes: - 2020 is up to week 32 (we are currently in week 38). 2017-2020 is from oldbloke, 2016 is from Buzzangle (iirc).
- The units are using Billboard 200 formula (which has changed in the past years). RIAA for example counts pure sales for double albums twice. Hamilton has more than 2M pure copies (so that makes it at 7M+). -It was certified 7xP last week by RIAA.
- Purpose is top 10 (#6 most likely or #7).
What are the purple cells? - Album units frome pre-released singles from previous years. Example: ASTROWORLD was released in August 2018, album units coming from the single Butterfly Effect in 2018 (Jan-Aug) are included in the 1,985,000 (2018 album units). Album units from the same single in 2017 are in purple (230,000 - 2017). 16-20 is 'ANTI', 'THE GREATEST SHOWMAN', 'More Life', 'Starboy', 'When We All Fall Asleep Where Do We Go?' all at ~3.6M range. IYRTITL, '24K Magic' & 'Invasion Of Privacy' are at ~3.5M. This is after 32 weeks in 2020. I can't go any lower because there will be albums missing most likely because lack of data.

ALICIA KEYS ALICIA 59,218 -- 48,607
I'm betting her physical albums sales are gonna increase quite a bit with the final numbers. Girl had an absolutely huge promo campaign.
