Check out some extras later right now let's see how high playboy playmate video cameo song can hold out? 40. Born in the U.S.A - Bruce SpringsteenI'm still kinda sore "I'm Going Down" missed the cut, but this one sounds like good enough replacement. back in 1985 I didn't really like this song. Top 30 placement was the best I did with it. My rank here reflects a song that would have gone top 10 on my 80's charts, so I definitely got more and more into this one throughout the years. It's not the lyrics nor the music. It's really all about Bruce's vocal delivery. He is at his most Anthem like mode. 39. Lay It Down - RattAh yes Marianne Gravatte. What a sight. And she seems perfect mate for Stephen. I remember still being on a 'Out of The Cellar' high ,and being surprised of even more Ratt on the airwaves. This song has a perfect build up intro. Stephen Pearcy never really did any screaming in the song, yet sounded so dynamic. Ratt also had two lead guitarists which gave the guitars works in the songs even more range. What a fantastic song. What a great memory, and hell yes! Ratt makes the top 40. That's all I really want from you guys. Give Glam Metal a respectable showing in one of these RDS. 38. Too Late for Goodbyes - Julian LennonThis is one of the last songs that squeezes into the range of songs I kinda sorta liked. It has good days and bad days. Julian sounds ok, but the song just goes on with the same piano melody and it gets trying towards the end. I didn't think you guys would like this song, and even worse "Volatte". 37. Little by Little - Robert Plant This is pretty decent. I like Robert Plant's vocals a whole lot more than the song itself and I gave him a big push up my list for vocal tones alone, but the song touches on proggy territory and it doesn't sound to thrilling at all. 36. Valotte - Julian Lennon..and finally. This is a pop ballad I never liked. I'm sure there is a melody hidden in there somewhere, but just relying on a piano is a tuff way to sell it to me. "One More Try" from George Michael does it right. 35. This Is Not America - David Bowie & Pat Metheny GroupAnother song David Bowie could not sell to me. For me David Bowie was always about the Upbeat music. "Modern Love" Suffergate City", "Blue Jean". You get the picture. I jus never liked this modern Rock pop ballads style. I didn't particularly enjoy his falsetto style vocals on this song either. At least two of my bottom 10 fall back to back. No if we can just get my #100 out. 34. Never - HeartAnother favorite of mine from Heart. I'll take all their songs. The Album rock, The Glam rock, even "Tell It Like It Is" is great. This song here is melodic and catchy as hell. A little on the Love Anthem side too, and has a great ever lasting type of fade out before the song finishes. I will surely give the same type of rank to "How Can I Refuse". 33. Perfect Strangers - Deep Purple That's exactly what they did. Incorporate their 70's album rock style. It feels like I might have underranked this one because that intro hook has a lot of Don Felder's "Take a Ride On Heavy Metal" with a side of Led Zeppelin's guitar vibe, but I really couldn't put it any higher. Not with all the songs featured on this list. 32. Walk of Life - Dire StraitsAs I mentioned before I always thought this song's main hook sounded a little silly, but I still like it quite a bit for it's fun factor. 31. The Heat Is On - Glenn FreyI'm surprised "You Belong To The City beats this? That surely is not the case on my list. I like this song a lot more for POp. It's a good song for it's brass elements, but truthfully you might have seen me give Glenn a top 20 rank for "Smuggler's Blues" that song is like a bitchin' muscle car. 30. Lonely Ol' Night - John MellencampI naturally gave John's songs all high rankings. This one isn't as frantic as "R.O.C.K...." nor as sitting out on the front porch strumming on the guitar jam as "Small Town". It actually has more of an R.E.M Alternative Rock vibe, but John deliver's the vocal sizzle that Michael Stipe can't. 29. High on You - SurvivorThe band hit that AOR button perfectly on this song. Love the synth intro here. It's a colorful majestic synth line ,and I really love how it goes hand in hand with the fast bass line. 28. T urn up the Radio - AutographThis song was cool . Parts of it sound theatrically too "Mr. Roboto" for me, but that strong bass and vocals balances it out nicely. LOL! You wanna see me give this band a top 10 rank. Give me "Blondes In Black Cars". 27. Glory Days - Bruce SpringsteenIt's time for me to finally glorify a Bruce Springsteen jam. I absolutely love this song's strumming intro and the instrumental buildup to the first verse. I also love the story telling lyrics ,and how Bruce delivers them. His raspy tones adding a little more fuel into every verse. Then there is the epitome of the song. The third verse. I Love how they arranged it by dropping all the instruments except the guitar giving it the perfect pub music stage performance done right score....and of course silly me again thought Scar Face was on guitar. Anyway my favorite Bruce Springsteen song. You guys will never see me put a Bruce Springsteen song this high again so enjoy. I know I did. 26. Can't Get There From Here - R.E.MLOL! So where are all those questionable ranks I saw this song get on the Modern Rock RD? I barely found any use for it on that RD ,and here it just sounded silly. hence it freefell into the tank. 25. Cry - Godley & CremeEasily my #100 here. I give it bottom 10 for all the same reasons before, but on an amplified level. Also the one positive thing about this duo, and something I just learned tonight is that they directed my favorite music video for my favorite Duran Duran song of all time. can you guess? "Girls On Film". How do you go from naked playmates in a wrestling ring to crying faces? Anyway I have one more song left in my tank and I can't believe its still swmmining around on this RD. 24. We Belong - Pat Benatar Not my favorite Pat Benatar song. Decent for her vocals which are always good, but I'm glad "Invincible" prevails. Also "We Belong" must have cruised on over to Mainstream late , because it was released in 1984. 23. The Big Money - RushGod song good song. A little over foamy in synths for Rush, but still very enjoyable. Also I think Dire Straits ,and Def Leppard made better use of those type of Music video effects. 21. The Power of Love - Huey Lewis & the NewsYeah I love this one. Immensely catchy, and NRGetic, but I'm saving my higher ranks for songs from " Sports". Will get to some extras in due time. Especially those Krokus and Helix songs, because you know i charted those.

Aaaaaand they went out in reverse order from my preference, of course :/ This song does 23 spots better than in the Hot 100 RD Congrats craziaskowboi on slaying your bottom 10 as well as your Big Pharma commercial-related demons here 32
Walk of Life Dire Straits
If you've never seen Shooter Jenning's version of Walk of Life, I think it turned out pretty well all countrified. The video is certainly amusing...

Just one outlier in this top 20 that I would've preferred not make it this far though I'm definitely not surprised that it did. There are quite a few pleasant surprises in this top 20 including "Broken Wings", "You Belong to the City", and both songs from the Hooters. Based on previous results I feel confident about 6 of the remaining songs making the top 10 but as the for the other 4 spots I have no idea what will happen. {TURN UP THE STATS}

#60 I Want to Know What Love Is - Foreigner
There's so much AOR balladry this year. I will say that I find this to be a stronger ballad than "Waiting For A Girl Like You."
#59 One World - Dire Straits
A decent groove on this track, but not much more. Good riffs are usually the big point of appeal for Dire Straits, but they don't come up with anything too interesting here.
#58 R.O.C.K in the U.S.A (A Salute to 60's Rock) - John Mellencamp
A fun upbeat heartland rock track, though now that disassociative mentions it, yeah this does sound quite a bit like many of the other nostalgia rock tracks from this era.
#57 Centerfield - John Fogerty
A little goofy, but I personally don't find it hokey. And of course, I'm a bit fan of John Fogerty's sound, so I ranked this one high.
#56 Back in Time - Huey Lewis & the News
Looks like rankers called this one right down the middle, which is exactly where it belongs in my opinion. It's got the usual hooks and pop rock style you'd expect from Huey Lewis... and not much else - a pretty middling track by his standards.
#55 Sussudio - Phil Collins
There was an adult contemporary station in my area that used to play this constantly, and I remember hearing it one day and thinking that I'd heard this song a hundred times but couldn't really remember anything about it other than the chorus and that one keyboard hook. I think that's because there's really nothing much to hear past those two things. Phil Collins doesn't do anything too interesting on vocals, there's not much in the way of interesting instrumental work, and the production is just the classic '80s wall of digital keyboards and gated reverb drums.
#54 Somebody - Bryan Adams
More fairly good AOR from Adams. A bit bland in terms of songwriting, but I like the execution.
#53 No Lookin' Back - Michael McDonald
An okay track elevated a bit by Michael McDonald's vocals.
#52 Inside Out - Phil Collins
This has a bit more musical intrigue than most of Collins' solo work from this year, as it gives some breathing time for the instrumental passages. The chorus is a nice hook, but much like "One More Night" it gets repeated a lot. I am looking forward to more Genesis down the road though.
#51 That Was Yesterday - Foreigner
It rocks more than their big hit ballad from this year (not that that says a whole lot), and I like some of the keyboard work here. It doesn't stand out a whole lot in this era, but it's a nice enough AOR hit.
#50 Cannonball - Supertramp
I'm slightly shocked to see that this didn't get tanked, given the generally poor reception that post-Roger Hodgson Supertramp received. There's some great instrumental jamming and an excellent groove here, but the songwriting could definitely have been tighter, especially on the longer album version. We'll have better from them down the road I'm sure, but Rick Davies provided a nice detour away from this year's stadium rock/AOR deluge on this rather proggy track.
#49 Four in the Morning - Night Ranger
I'm also surprised to see such a difference between the two Night Ranger tracks; I felt they were pretty similar in terms of quality. Nothing too complex here musically - Night Ranger just does their usual brand of stadium rock, but they do it well enough. For some reason though, I feel like this song is slightly rushed, like the band is trying the push the songs tempo just a few bpm faster than how the song is supposed to go.
#48 All She Wants to Do Is Dance - Don Henley
Definitely overplayed, but I really like the pop-rock that Henley was delivering in this era for whatever reason. His hooks just keep landing for me.
#47 If You Love Somebody Set Them Free - Sting
I mentioned back in the modern rock game that this song was hard for me to rank. This was a significantly weaker year for mainstream rock than for modern rock in my opinion, so it ended up much higher here.
#46 Knocking at Your Back Door - Deep Purple
Reunion Mk II may never have matched the heights of their legendary early '70s run, but they were perfectly capable of delivering satisfying hard rock. The lyrics here are pretty goofy even for Ian Gillian, but he delivers them well. Jon Lord and Ritchie Blackmore deal out plenty of classic Purple sound in the instrumental work as well.
#45 Talk to Me - Fiona
The music didn't particularly stand out, but Fiona definitely nailed the vocal performance.
#44 The Old Man Down the Road - John Fogerty
This definitely did better here than on modern (it certainly fits a lot better here.) Not Fogerty's best vocal performance, but still plenty of great swamp rock vibes.
#43 Tonight It's You - Cheap Trick
I'm not a fan of the band's stadium rock phase. After they dropped the energetic power pop that drove their early albums, they started to sound like every other '80s band.
#42 Small Town - John Mellencamp
I got sick of hearing this as a radio recurrent, but I've gotten over that in recent years to acknowledge that it's a pretty good heartland rock song. To be honest, I think I high ranked a lot of these heartland tracks in part because of how tired I was getting of all the heavily produced arena anthems.
#41 Trapped - Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band
It stays somewhat close to the formula Springsteen was drifting into by this point, but the chorus hits hard and Clarence Clemons delvers an excellent sax solo.

Pretty sure I have everything left in my top 30 so I can’t complain a whole lot here really. I guess I’ll just be rooting for WILTY and another Alt crossover to miss though.

Maybe it's irrational but I've always felt disgusted by entertainment that features 'lighthearted' cannibalism premises. So I'm really glad I don't have to deal with this video being associated with a top 10 song. (of course I also think the song itself sucks so) 11

Another huge 31-spot boost from the Hot 100 RD. Guess this isn't as guilty a pleasure as it feels like it should be. Especially if you trust the video's interpretation that the lyrics are about a guitar and not another woman lol my condolences craziaskowboi 9

My Condolences, aerodynamite. With the elimination of this song, the whole top 6 is made up of crossovers from either the Hot 100 RD or the Lost Hits RD. Doc Indie Party Rock is once again the last poster to clear his bottom 10 7

Unlike in the Hot 100 RD, this is the first TFF song to leave, and it only improves by 4 positions. 6

First song with no bottom 50s. This song already did very well in Lost Hits, so it only gains 1 spot. The fact that it made the top 5 with no one actually ranking it top 5 is funny, though. 5

HOH is now rightfully TFF's second highest song, as it does 11 better than in the Hot 100 RD. Which leaves only EWTRTW in its attempt to repeat the win. 4

Your final 2. The Boys of SummerDon't You (Forget About Me)Tale of the Tape:One #1 ranking is still in ( Butterflies & Hurricanes's). No one can get a perfect top 2, though peacebone and I hold our 2 and 4. The point spread is 15 Only on the last movement were these songs the top 2. Both songs have 8 top 10s No bottom 50s left--in fact, no bottom 75s left Only craziaskowboi has no top 10s left

Congrats to Butterflies & Hurricanes on being the closest of anyone to getting the #1 correct. But this song still fell short, rising 4 from the Hot 100 RD in the process 2
The Boys of Summer Don Henley Year-End Placing: #2 Chart Peak: #1 Weeks on Chart: 16 1013 points Standard Deviation: 7.70 (3RD LOWEST) Butterflies & Hurricanes - 1 thethirdcurry - 3 singingrulebritannia - 4 rowellfarm490 - 4 peacebone - 4 Daryl the Beryl - 5 aerodynamite - 8 Mirago - 9 craziaskowboi - 17 gonecountry - 18 Doc Indie Party Rock - 25 Performance history: #21 Active 1985 (Sunset Grill) | #48 Active 1985 (All She Wants to Do Is Dance) | #50 Active 1989 (The End of the Innocence) | #55 Active 1990 (The Heart of the Matter) | #66 Active 1985 (Drivin' With Your Eyes Closed) | #71 Active 1989 (The Last Worthless Evening) | #73 Active 2000 (Workin' It) | #75 Active 1989 (I Will Not Go Quietly) | #80 Active 1996 (You Don't Know Me at All) | #89 Active 1987 (Who Owns This Place?) | #92 Active 1990 (If Dirt Were Dollars) | #94 Active 1990 (How Bad Do You Want It?) | #98 Active 1996 (The Garden of Allah) Movements: 6 4 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 2
I saw this coming after Simple Minds made the top 10 of the 80s Hot 100 All-Stars RD However, I'm shocked no one put this in their top spot. But when you receive no ranking lower than a 17, you may not need a #1 to win a rankdown, haha 1
Don't You (Forget About Me) Simple Minds Year-End Placing: #10 Chart Peak: #1 Weeks on Chart: 16 1028 points Standard Deviation: 4.93 (LOWEST) singingrulebritannia - 2 peacebone - 2 rowellfarm490 - 3 Daryl the Beryl - 4 gonecountry - 5 Doc Indie Party Rock - 8 thethirdcurry - 8 aerodynamite - 9 Butterflies & Hurricanes - 12 craziaskowboi - 13 Mirago - 17 Performance history: #4 Alt 1985 (Don't You (Forget About Me)) | #10 Active 1986 (Sanctify Yourself) | #15 Active 1986 (All the Things She Said) | #17 Active 1991 (See the Lights) | #26 Alt 1991 (See the Lights) | #60 Active 1995 (She's a River) | #66 Alt 1995 (She's a River) Movements: 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 2 2 1 Spectators:
